Actually, Gabi was one of the three I watched... I saw you mentioned you'll be doing something with her in the future! Her opinion aligns with yours and she also purchased hers. I wonder if Dyson does any real world review BEFORE releasing a $500 product. I will say as a 67 year old, I can see where a more advanced age (wealthy) 😅woman would find it helpful...

I have coarse, wavy hair. I bought the Airstrait and I found it to be a fantastic tool for working with my hair. I'm not a professional stylist, so I don't have the skill set or desire to spend a long time on creating a professional looking blowout. I also don't want to damage my hair with excessive heat from flat irons. This product bypasses all that. I love it.

Do you not feel that the hair is getting way too hot? I've used it a few times now and it does a decent job at getting my hair straight, but my hair is scorching to the touch. It has to be causing damage.

One thing that no one has mentioned, and is the main reason I would like to purchase this, is for travelling. I love my air wrap, but it’s so much to pack, and a hair dryer and flat iron also takes up too much room. This seems like a game changer for travel

Best purchase I’ve ever made!!! Yes hands down….and no is not for everyone, I know. Reason for me is: I had a stroke that left my right side with hardly any strength or movement and can only use my left arm….I can’t work handling a brush and blow dryer at the same time. So, this is perfect for me. ❤Dyson

My husband purchased a Dyson blowdryer for me last Christmas-after I had a fit about the cost, and told him I was definitely returning it, I decided to at least try it, what the heck. IT IS AMAZING, best my thinner, dry hair has looked in years. It doesn’t make your hair dry and frizzy like regular blowdryers can-my husband is AWESOME for surprising me with such a nice present-AND I TELL HIM OFTEN 😊❤

It's amazing for my wavy hair that gets super frizzy in any humidity. Day 1 it's very straight - day 2,3,4 (that's as far as I've gone) it never got frizzy but definitely had more volume to it. Dry shampoo on day 3 helped. For me it's about getting it done with the least amount of work on hot days. Winter I prefer the blowout brush but when it's humid outside I want the job done quickly and efficiently. Never bought a dyson hair product before but this was worth it for me.

Yes Lisa, the best part to also keep in mind is the Dyson technology in keeping your hair healthy & not burning it in the long run with the use of all the added products combined. I have the Dyson airwrap. I'm still freaking out over what I paid but let's just say I will not be hitting a Salon anytime soon! I did the math & with the savings of a blowout in a year, my Dyson will have paid for itself. 🙂

My curly coarse hair has been worn natural while wishing for sleeky straight hair for YEARS! I've had the same flat iron, round brush and ionic hairdryer for about 10 years but detest wrangling said tools for an hour or more to get semi-sleek results. The dyson airstrait is a total game changer for my locks. After 2-3 passes, my hair has remained strait (haha straight) for 3 days with a bit more volume each morning. Translate my hair to pillow conversion something alike a sunbeam mixer with egg whites! The kicker is NO HIGH HEAT damage to my bleached, colored, frizzless mane!! Thank you Dyson for my long locks!

It can feel exhausting. And I can't blow dry and flat iron in 8 minutes. My guess is that she just "goes over big sections of hair with her flat iron, anyway. When I flat iron, it's smaller sections, less heat, and ONE pass. I cannot achieve that in 8.5 minutes. No way.

Thanks for taking the time to share this, Justin! I’ve had my Dyson hairdryer for a good four years now, and it’s the most reliable tool I have with my Kent round brush to help me blow dry my hair! I purchased after my hairdresser used his on my curly hair. I have a hard time getting my hair straight by regular blow dryer. I wind up using flat iron. I find that the Dyson Airstraight works well for me. I'm amazed that after 2-3 passes my super curls are straight. I won't wear my hair straight all the time but for the times i do, this product works well for me. The first time my hairdresser done this on my hair i was able to get up and comb or brush my hair. No touch up required. Very excited to own and use the Airstraight.

I like how you broke this down at the end based on preferences. I have thick hair that sometimes gets frizzy. I wash my hair, use moroccan oil. In warm months I let it air dry to about 80% then rough dry with my Dyson dryer (which I LOVE; it was worth the splurge). I then use the big hot air brush to dry in sections. Problem is, it gets soooooo hot, and the cool setting is too cool. So my main concern is heat damage from the hot air brush or the GHD flatiron I sometimes use and that is the only reason I would purchase this.

A few of my long-haired clients bought an air wrap after I used it on them, and they walk around looking amazing all the time. My best advertising! For them, the airwrap was worth it. I think for gals that always want a straighter look, the air straight could be a great investment. The other upside is they only have to pack ONE tool for traveling, too. I use the blowdry attachment on my air wrap and the paddle brush and the brush accessories to achieve a pretty smooth and straight look, too. I think it's better than using a flat iron on your hair every day, for sure.

I’m waiting for mine to come in the mail. I have thick course unruly wavy hair and I have a LOT of it. I always always always blow dry my hair as much as I can and it get the dreaded triangle head of frizz. Afterwards I always go in with a straightener afterwards to straighten it/flatten it. Not that I want to but it’s a necessity because the dryer doesn’t do enough. This tool got be extremely excited because it’s what I’ve been looking for all my life. A blow dryer in the form of a straightener and that straightens it from wet! I believe It’s going to save me so much time and damage. Only time will tell! Once I get in and start using it I’ll advise!

I bet if you used a heat protectant like Trilliant by Sebastion, before use, it would be even better. You have to shake it up each time you spray it, but it is my fave product to use for straight looks. It seems to protect and defy frizz. You might want to think about maybe getting a Lasio Keratin treatment if your budget allows. I thought they were a gimmick until I did the One Day formula on my hair, and it took out 90% of my curt and 100% of my frizz. They have a 60% percent curl and 100% frizz formula too. It made styling my hair so much faster and easier, and really helped in the humidity.

I have naturally wavy, fine, lightened hair. I purchased this in hopes of getting a smooth hairstyle without using a flat iron which I really don't like and they are really damaging with regular use. My first thought was how easy the airstrait was to use and it was lightweight. I absolutely love the results. I have used it on wet hair and, after getting caught in the rain and my hair got all frizzy, I used the dry hair setting and was really impressed. Yes, the price is insane, but I don't have any need to get blowouts ($40-60 each). I just let my hair dry naturally to about 75% and then go in with the wet hair setting and it works really well. I have had so many compliments on my hair when I use it. I have only had it for about 2 weeks so I will need to see if it actually is less damaging than using a flat iron but I have high hopes.

I have this tool and I mainly bought it because I do like trying dyson hair tools when they come out. I will say that it performs better than I thought. I have the air styler and I still cannot figure out how to use that properly. I also have the flat iron which I prefer titanium plate or steam flat irons better. There is no bend in your hair when using this. But the finish is fuller And less frizzy especially when you use a cool pass. It didn't save much time but my hair didn't have the dry crunchy feel. And my ends were pretty straight without any extra effort such as chasing it with a comb. I have very curly hair when it's wet so this worked well in my opinion. And the price... I don't go to hair salons anymore because I can't find A stylist that will give me better results than I get at home so I dont spend hundreds of dollars in the salon.

Do you have the first version of the air wrap or the one with the changeable directions on the wands? It took me a while to figure out how dry I needed to get it, before really trying to wrap for curling. The newer wands are so much nicer. For me, I use the brush attachment to get a little volume at the root and get it 90% dry at the root, then leave the mids and ends damp, but not WET. Then, I air wrap, and it gives me gorgeous, bouncy, long-lasting curls. Also, I shoot each curl with a cool blast and don't touch them while I do my makeup. I really let the hair cool all the way down,. A lot of people touch their hair too soon to manipulate the style. try that, and see if it helps. Another thing, they show in their videos, wrapping the long hair closer to the ends, and then to the root. I start closer to the root, and let the ends wrap up last. that helped my finished looks a lot too. Just practice with it. There's a learning curve, for sure.

I have wavy hair like your son’s girlfriend. I didn’t own a blow dryer and my flat iron was a 17 year old amika iron. My routine was wash my hair at night every 2-3 days, sleep with it wet, and then straighten it in the morning. My hair was getting very damaged from doing that. I decided to splurge on the airstrait as a way to get the blow dryer and straightener all in one go so I wouldn’t sleep with wet hair anymore and could dry and style it at the same time. I wanted to try it for a month before deciding whether to keep it or not and I’ve really been enjoying it so far. My hair has never felt softer or healthier. But that’s also from going from a crappy “routine” to this. So not sure if it’s worth it for most people but I’ve liked it so far

Loved this when I initially tried it. My hair is curly and very frizzy and it was significantly less frizzy after using it but, it definitely was not as effective at pulling out the curl as my paddle brush and dryer. Plus, I do prefer a little bend at the bottom and while the air strait made my hair fuller it also made it straight with no bend. In the end, the air strait was not worth the money for me.

So you can't bend your hair by pulling your sections up amd out in an arc like with a flat iron with this tool? Because that woukd be a deal breaker for me. I'd also recommend the Voloom tool for body. I have had mine for 3 years and love it! The volume lasts a couple days. I only use it at most 2x a week because it gets very hot, but since you use it at the root of the layers UNDER your hair, you can't see that hair anyway.

@amandasill5022 3 месяца назад
After listening/reading others reviews, I do think it is more beneficial to those who don’t already have straight or almost straight hair. Your sons girlfriend looks to have hair that is easy to blow dry and straighten out fairly quickly, but for those with more texture to their hair, it’s a much more lengthy process with a blow dryer and straightener. But most reviews I’ve seen by people with more texture, they find their hair is dry and straight in 20-30 min instead of the typically 40-50 by rough drying and then flat ironing. I think that’s the key with it but I do appreciate the honest review!

Thanks for the insights and testing😊. I don't want to apply much heat to my hair. I usually just dry it with a normal hairdryer and assume it's going to look frizzy. If I have an event or some special occasion, then I use a flat iron, but I try to avoid them as much as possible. I prefer having a little bit of frizz on my hair but maintaining it more or less healthy than damaging it using extreme heat on a daily basis. So when I discovered this tool, I thought, maybe this is my solution. The way my hair could look without frizz and be healthy at the same time. However, I think that it still works at a higher temperature than a regular dryer. So I worry if, in the long term, it could damage my hair a bit. I know that it is not the same as a flat iron, but still... What do you think? Thanks!!

First a question, if you have time to answer. Does it have that brick in the middle of the cord like the air wrap or super sonic? (Also i feel like it's super cheap on Dyson not to offer a bag or case). This product is goofy, Dyson designed this and it would give okay to decent results on relatively straight hair or hair with a little texture. This same type of hair benefits from most of the products available (round brush dryers, air wrap, paddle dryers, etc), so it seems like its not generally worth it with some exceptions (mobility issues or if one just has trouble with blow outs with a brush especially round brush, your arms get tired etc). Where they could have excelled would have been a tightly textured hair, but really i don't think they took the product far enough, just like with the air wrap. It just seems some hair types need a higher degree of heat and they're capping it.

I don't have but I'm considering this or the GHD. I have pretty straight hair but absolutely zero ability to create a good straight hairstyle with just a dryer and a brush - any brush. I've been relying on dryers with brush attachments (originally Revlon One Step, then T3, then Dyson Airwrap) but I really want is a super slick finish. I've watched every RU-vid video and am thinking of enrolling in proper training class to learn how to blow dry straight. Maybe this will solve the problem for me?

I bought it with birthday money and savings, so a big purchase for me. I already own the hairdryer and that along with some product changes was a gamechanger for me. . However getting my hair straight (ish) was really annoying when by day 2 it just looked a mixture of straight, wavy curly, just generally yuk. I could only guarantee straight hair on the day I dried my hair and there was no moisture around (I live in the UK, so here's hoping). So I've had it about 6 weeks and am still getting to grips with it, have found I have to pass it more than two times per section, to get it dry and straight, but I'm not getting any shine, it seems a bit dry/coarse ( I have fine hair), so I have been experimenting with different methods and product. Whatever I do it does maintain its straightness for three days, (amazing). After watching Justin I am going to go upstairs and check the temperature I have been using, as I think I might have got the heat setting wrong. So thank you in advance for doing a buttons talk through.

I have both the Airwrap and AirStrait. I prefer the AirStrait because it leaves my hair silky soft. I still use a flat iron afterwards. My hair is long wavy with some frizz. I don’t use the Airwrap because it takes forever to dry it and it leaves my hair damaged, crunchy and a poof ball when dried a complete waste of money. I don’t use a blow dryer and brush because it’s I’ve never been able to master that. I let my hair air dry 50-70% while I’m drinking my coffee or tea and then go in with my AirStrait. If I try to dry from dripping wet it takes forever to dry.

I have fairly curly ringlet style hair and already in just a week this has cut a lot of time out of my styling routine. It's a good tool for what it's intended for without the fatigue of using a brush and dryer. The texture of my hair feels so much better compared. Also if you have the airwrap I have tried combining the too and if you skip the final pass with the airstrait and then use the curler on the airwrap it's really a good work flow. I can't get nice results with just the airwrap.

Also, at this time I find this process is much gentler on my hair. However, like you said it missing the beginning or waves you get through a round brush blowout. If you redid this experiment with someone with thick curly hair I think your outcome would be much different. Honestly, for curly-haired people, this is worth every dollar. I usually get a blowout every two weeks. I will never have to pay for a blowout again.

Thanks for the video! I guess I'm gonna need to watch this again because I just don't understand how using this tool in flatiron mode on wet hair is advisable. I've seen videos of folks flat-ironing wet hair when disaster strikes: The flat-iron literally takes off a huge hunk of hair. The person is left in tears and has no choice but to go get a very short haircut. Anyway, I'll watch the video again and try to learn more.
@justinhickox
@justinhickox Год назад
Great question. It has to do with a few things. In the videos you're watching where people lose chunks of hair, that has to do with the texture of their hair, how damaged it is and the iron they're using. This tool uses air and not as much heat as flat irons. It's supposed to be better for your hair health (that' what Dyson claims) but I'd have to do month of testing to really see how that pans out.

It's not a flatiron there are no hot plates. It's basically like blowdrying your hair under tension with the perfect air angle but it's also blowing both sides of your hair at once. The max heat is a little over 1/2 of what a flat iron would go up to.

Hi Justin, I am a bit confused by this review because you left out the most crucial point about the airstrait: that it doesn't use hotplates like a straightener! That to me is the massive benefit here and you never mentioned it once! Yes you get the same results with a straightener but you are using hot plates...I find it very strange that you don't mention that! It is super expensive and definitely not for everyone but still...
@justinhickox
@justinhickox Год назад
Hey! Fair point. Hot plates or not, the hair is exposed to heat and when you take the hair out of the straightener, it’s hotter than one may expect. The real point with the heat is the potential of damage (or less damage with less heat). I didn’t mention that because there are so many variables to consider when determining if this unit would be less damaging than peoples normal routines (their process, what kinds of tools they’re using, what brands of those tools etc). Because of that, I can’t really speak to the damage (or lack of damage) of using the AirStrait with any sort of real evidence. With that said, I decided to not speak to that aspect of the unit.
@stephanieinjuly
@stephanieinjuly Год назад
I can tell you from using it 6 times now that it gets so insanely hot. Just as hot as my straightener. The difference is I have to go over it way more times with the airstrait to get it straight, and even then its not silky straight like my straightener gets it.
