DYSON AIRWRAP REVIEW - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - Nadine Baggott

This is my review of the much hyped Dyson Airwrap - apologies it has taken my three weeks but I wanted to test it properly for you as it is so much money.
I have fine hair, easy to style and have no trouble blow drying my own hair. In fact I love my Dyson Supersonic Dryer so I came to this gadget with extremely high expectations.
It is hit and miss - the air wrap styler head attachments are amazingly clever and the COANDA effect that wraps the hair without suction or tangles is, quite frankly, revolutionary, I am sure this will revolutionise hair waving and curling the same way that Dyson revolutionised vacuum cleansers.
However the brush attachments are clunky, unattractive and do not smooth, or wave or dry hair, even my fine hair, any better than a Babyliss gadget and certainly no better than a good radial YS Park Brush and my beloved Dyson supersonic. What's more you cant buy a kit with just the Airwrap Stylers, they all comes with brushes, which is super annoying.
So my advice to you is to try in store before you buy and remember that this does not have the flexibility to wave thicker sections of hair, to leave the ends out easily for that cool done/undone look, or to control and smooth the hair as you wave.
All of the attachments work on 80% dry hair so you can't smooth first then wave.
And the Airwrap stylers are directional so you can't just pop one on and style your whole head using the wand upside down and back to front with ease - so this requires more thought than you usual hot tong.Here is the video in which I review the Supersonic - • Review Dyson Supersoni...

I've had mine for almost a month. Use it every day and my hair has never looked better. The shine and condition is fabulous! The more you use it, the easier it gets. I do however only have the volume and shine kit, not the complete, but it's all I need!

I actually love this hairstyle! My hair is very different from yours. I tried it in a store and was able to do beautiful beach waves, right away. The longevity of the curls was a little less than with a curling iron, but still good enough. I haven’t made up my mind yet, but despite your reservations, I am tempted. Thank you for your open, honest review. 😊

First of all, thank you for the most comprehensive review I have found on RU-vid. I wish I had seen it before I used a LOT of my airline points -- who is flying nowadays? -- to redeem it as merchandise. It is now in transit. I don't think a return will be simple. Second, I have had a Dyson dryer for a year now and I find that it makes my hair crunchy dry, no matter what products I use. My hair is thin and fine and I don't get anything close to the look I want. I need to then use my Ghd over and over again between shampoos. Third, I don't agree that your hair came out uneven or whatever. I thought it was stunning and full looking. Thanks again!

I have curly, strong and frizzy hair and I wear a fringe. So for me the brushes, all of them, are great because I can keep one handy little box with ALL my tools, instead of having 3 different tools with the cords around etc. It does not differ much from the result I get with old tools, but if it will do less damage and keep my hair tools tidy it's good enough for me!😘

I absolutely love mine and I have lots of long v straight hair. I simply cannot bring myself to go to all the hassle of blow drying my own hair with a hairdryer and round brush - just far too much arm ache and then you have to fuss about with pinning up the curls till they cool and I always make a mess. This just takes out 75 per cent of the effort for me and for the first time I can style my hair and can go out with a bouncy salon look! I also own the Babyliss big hair and the Babyliss Curl Secret and the Dyson just blows these out of the water in my opinion. As for it being clunky - I really don't find it to be so and I naturally hold it up where the controls are so I can access them easily and don't have any issue!

I appreciate your honest review. My problem is I am rubbish at blow drying my hair straight. The Babyliss big hair brush was a nightmare to use as my hair got tangled up in the brush every time and getting it out was painful and damaging to my locks. Therefore the Airwrap is appealing although it does look very bulky and of course there is the staggering price tag.

Thank you for such a honest review. I had this on my Christmas list but think I’ll be changing my mind. I have thick straight hair and after watching your video have a feeling it will take me ages to style and I’d be worried it wouldn’t hold the curl for very long.
@gkcobb
@gkcobb 5 лет назад
I've had mine for just over a week. I've been playing around with it to see what type of different styles I can get. I love it! And my curls are lasting throughout the next day. I used the brush to get volume and to also make curls similar like how you would with a blow dryer and round brush. It took a while but it came out beautifully. With the curlers, I can make beach waves by twisting my hair around the barrel and voluminous waves by letting the coanda effect just take them away. I have used the curlers right side up and upside down (when I'm being lazy not wanting to switch barrels and for when I make beach waves). I think this is good for home use. Stylists are used to many, many years of using the blow dryer with round brush finishing with a curling wand or straightener that learning this new way isn't worth it. They were taught this way and that's what they know. The Dyson Airwrap is completely different, that's why revolutionary. Also, stylists are styling hair only once after a cut or for a blow out. They're not using it every day to style their own hair. And I personally feel that's where the Dyson Airwrap is a winner for me. My hair is only being AIR styled without the use of wands or straighteners that get much hotter but also do so much more damage to my hair. The biggest, biggest benefit of the Airwrap is the regulated lower heat to dry and style. My hair comes out so bouncy and shiny like never before. I've already put my other styling tools away. Yes, there is a huge learning curve but when i finally get it all down, I know I'm going to slay the style/s I want and my hair will be much healthier in the long run. Thank you for this video. It was well done and I appreciate your opinion.
@kimbelford9932
@kimbelford9932 5 лет назад
I agree. I own both. Once you get over the learning curve it's perfection. I use the smoothing brush from underneath the hair holding the end for tension. I also don't believe this was meant for hairdressers. To me this is more meant for everyday styling for less damage.

@@DonnaQC Well it's been maybe over a month that I've had my Dyson Airwrap. I use it as my go-to styling tool and yes, my curls lasts for days! I have the Smooth and Control and love it. I agree the handle part is long but to be honest, I've not used a hairdryer in years and the handle is so much lighter than a hairdryer. I have shoulder length fine hair and can smooth and style my hair straight in 15 minutes. I'll admit the curl attachments take practice and a bit longer but I like the final effect. It lasts about 2 days without the use of a styling product, which is great.

I have very similar hair, very fine, kinky and sadly since having kids quite thin @ the front. The babyliss big hair has been a life saver & I can actually get some volume without the need for separate hairdryer & brush which I could never manage. I was considering the dyson air wrap but I’m going to cross it off my list - the wand is ridiculous in length, it would make my arm ache trying to use it. Thank you so much for the review. X

You do get used to holding it lower down in your hair....it saves the arm ache you can get from having to hold a device up higher on your head.

It's unfortunate that it didn't work very well for you. I love mine! I have never been able to blowout my own hair with a brush and hairdryer. With the Dyson Airwap I can give myself a terrific blowout with tons of volume. The only product I have to use is heat protector and my bowout lasts 3-4 days. It's probably due to the texture and thickness of my hair. I have fine hair, but it is very thick and fairly straight. It is very spendy and I definitely wouldn't recommend people purchase it unless they have an extra $600 laying around. Anyway, great review, as always

@@lu_re7198 You could technically get rid of other styling tools unless you like super sleek straight styles. To get my hair stick straight I need a flat iron. Also if you need to curl your hair quickly, you may want to hang on to a curling wand. I got the chance to use the curling attachments and I LOVED the style I created (I followed the official Dyson tutorial on how to create beach waves...or loose waves...I can't remember the exact title) and I LOVED the fact that it will damage my hair less. It did take me twice as long to curl my hair than usual...but for me that's OK.

I bought this to stop using ghds and tongs, as they were breaking my hair. So the point of the airwrap is to not have to use tongs to smooth and curl. I think it succeeds in doing that. You did not curl properly. You need to use on full power (which gets very hot and does burn your scalp) you then cool shot. It's also best to section your hair so it is not hit and miss. I find this much easier to style than using a hair dryer, brush and tong

Thank you for this excellent review Nadine. Except for being a brunette, we have the same exact hair! To be honest it took me years of trying hairstyles to master my waves I had to kiss a lot of frogs in terms of curlers lol that at this point if it’s working I am not tempted to try anything new unless it’s really a game changer. I think Dyson will improve on this in the next coming launches so will await a new review hopefully they will get it absolutely right for people like me who have their routine set and working for them to try something new. P.S: my Parlux drier + Trevor Sorbe Aragan infused large curler + a heat spray by Cloud 9 are my winning formula!

Interestingly, I have a really irritated scalp and there has been a remarkable improvement in the flakiness and redness.

I use the small barrels to curl, I find the upside down method far easier. It does take a little getting used to. The curl looks scarily tight to begin, however once dressed drops and looks fab and lasts all day!! Interesting to hear that it doesn't seem to work for everyone.

I would like to say I have one... but as I bought off Qvcuk, the Complete Set sold out even before it launched! I am waiting as I too have my reservations but with QVC you can send it back if you don’t like it. Free postage to send it out... be a fortune to send back! ☹️ I have watched every video I can find to put my mind at rest but still it is split. I do hope you don’t mind me suggesting from what I’ve seen others do to you, I’m not wanting to teach you to suck eggs and you have tried it already... these are just suggestions. I noticed that you need to section your hair as a hairdresser would with a clip and couple cm width rather than guesstimate chunk. Will mean more sections but a better curl (if you don’t want a wave and a more vintage type curl). I’m not sure if it actually makes a difference but you put the curler half way up, where as seen others do it much further down and not as much falls out? Yes I agree the wand looks massive and I have tiny hands so will be huge. I did hear (might be just hype) but it’s that long so you don’t have to lift your arms up which is what people complain about when styling their hair? I love the 2 barrels as I have dyed, thick, long, wavy hair and by the time I’ve done one side perfect I can never turn it right to get the same type of curl. I really want it for the straight brushes as it takes me ages to dry my hair then straighten it with GHDs so by doing the two at once I hope it will shorten the time as I hate my waves as just looks unkempt,not nice elegant waves. Plus do less damage as I used to be bleach blonde and GHDs just too hot but they worked. My straight hair las ts few hours so will be interesting to see. I’ve found the Color Wow Dream Coat keeps it straighter longer as any humidity and I would look like Monica from Friends! 😂 May I ask did you put product on first? Can you put it on first or just use a gallon of hairspray afterwards? Anyway Thank You Nadine! ❤️ I’ve been waiting for your review as I know it would be truthful not like some ‘influencers’ that just say what the money they are getting paid for wants to hear. I will reply again when I actually try mine... when it actually arrives 😂. Take Care ❤️xx

Very good review of this product I've subbed now to your channel. My hair is curly, fine and freezy I do have too nanokeratin treatments to smooth it out for better condition, it helps a lot when I do have highlights done to my hair, which leaves it very very dry like straw almost, so annoying. But when it's straight and with the highlights it looks very similar to yours Nadine so I can relate.

Thank you for your honesty Nadine. I was tempted to get it (similar hair to yours) as I was so blown away by the hairdryer. I’ll give it a pass x

Great to see an in-depth unbiased review... but sad to see yet another person not introducing their hair to the barrel correctly ! And thus you observing that it didn’t wrap the section in full.

I have short, fine hair and i would never be able to get the beach curl. Maybe one they fell out a bit? Not worth that much money for myself. Thanks for the great review. You are absolutely stunning by the way!!

Thank you for doing this review. Won't be adding it to my list this Christmas although I will watch with interest to see how they develop it. I feel the curl is more old fashioned than your normal look (and much fluffier which is no good for us girls with fine hair!). And, when adding a curl/twist to my hair, I like to go in different directions with sections (forward and backwards) to add more texture. I will add the new Babyliss to my list instead!!

i think i'll wait until they release a version 2.0. Thick asian hair + living in a very humid climate, so I doubt a curl would hold. Thank you so much for the review!

hi, I am Jan, a hairdresser from Belgium. First of all, I have to say: you look sooo glamorous and I love your video. I honestly think I know what you're not doing right! You should never straighten your hair before you curl it; that way it takes all the natural volume and the bounciness (is that correct?) out of your hair and your curls will never hold. Use a good shampoo, for example, Redken Haircare High Rise Volume Lifting Shampoo the conditioner that goes with it, and for styling use the high rise gel-creme for fine hair. Then dry your hair, head down for more volume, until its still slightly moist to the touch. Now start curling and if you find it a bit too curly and you want more of a beachy, wavy kind of look, then immediately when the curl is still hot, take it between two fingers, at the ends and pull it down while it cools. I know it sounds bizarre but once you have the hang of it, you will see that you get exactly the result you want and it will hold a lot better. for the top section at the parting, you can blowdry it straight as you used too. I hope to be of any help to you. You're absolutely right about the brushes, they look cheap and tacky (at that $$$$ ??) they could have put in brushes with half synthetic and half natural bristles. In my opinion, it is still a revolutionary and a very good product, after they make it a few inches shorter and do something about the brushes. Keep on testing and evaluating new stuff and keep bringing the good vids.

I had not need to watch this review - I have naturally curly hair and I like it that way so I am all about diffusing. Only watched because of various comments about what a good review Nadine did. LOVE you Nadine. Properly in depth review. I have straightened and blown out my hair and at best it is a faff but if you have to change the heeds repeatedly that seems like a monumental ball-ache! Also for beach waves don’t you alternate the direction you wrap each section (I.e. on both sides of the head you go back and forth) - how long would that take? Love the technology though and love Nadine’s reviews.

Thank you for a very honest review. I have very fine thin hair too that barely takes curl. So after all that work with too many small sections to make it work, making curls that won't hold, is not for me. Guess you just saved me lots of money. I would consider it if it came in smaller sets where one could choose e.g with or without the brushes. For travel one would have to be selective regarding what pieces to bring anyway, as that big box could only be for storage at home. The price point should reflect what you get, and I don't think it does.

Love the review!! One thing though, coming from a person with fine but a lot of hair, I would never attempt to curl or wave my hair in one go with this or even with a normal wand. I’d have to split my hair into three sections before starting :-) so in that sense maybe it would still work (this is something I’ve seen other people do and it still seems to work) :-)

Excellent review and timely for me as I'm shopping for a blow dryer. I think the curls you got were too Barbie-doll for me, and that's with the larger curler. Then the brush set didn't seem all that great. My hair is like yours and I like Volume which you didn't get. Maybe Dyson will make a volumizer in the future in a smaller size. Thanks for saving me money and the hassle of a return.

It makes your hair look beautiful. I would like one but just can not justify the money which is a shame. My GHD was expensive enough and I get by curling my hair with that. Will wait until the price comes down a little I think. Thank you for this honest review xx

Thank you so much for your review of the Dyson hairdryer and the Air Wrap. A brilliant no nonsense tutorial! As I have written previously, I haven’t ordered the Air Wrap, going instead for a Revlon BUT I’ve just ordered the hairdryer from QVC. It is the WHITE w/platinum box Ltd edition for £319 free p&p. It is also on 4 interest free payments of £79.75 with a £25 voucher to spend at QVC. The white Dyson is approximately £280 from other suppliers (without the box) but QVC have a no quibble 30 day return guarantee if you don’t like anything) Cannot wait to get it! #weddinganniversaypresent 😁
