You make it look so simple....I have really struggled with this before as the new belt is so resistant. This time, I will be removing the bin chamber etc so I have a flat surface.
thank you. Saved me trying to remove the wrong bit. Neither of us was strong enough to pull the belt onto the spindle so my husband attached some string from the back and wearing a glove, pulled on that while I guided the belt onto the spindle with the screwdriver. Thought this tip might help someone.
I love this. Home auto mechanics can use a shop rag wrapped similarly around the serpentine belt to remove and replace it, rather than having to buy a belt tensioner tool. Good show, mates!
Thanks for your comments. Most of our vacuum belt videos were produced as we started making videos. A better way to fit the belt is to pass a cord or old belt through the new one and attach the new belt to the motor. You then have something to pull on to stretch the belt out and pass the roller through. Hope this tip helps a few people in the future.
Cheers Fella I had spent ages after i put the belt on the spindle first. Watched how you did it putting it on the rush roll then using the screwdriver to hook over the motor spindle. done in 3 mins Ta muchly.
Nice one, slaps forehead, just bought a new dyson, and fixing it is that easy, looks like I will be refurbishing the old one.. thanks, you have a new customer.
Hi, thanks for the video. However I have a DC04 in Yellow and the belt is further to the right and seems to be concealed inside the bottom unit. How can I access the belt to change it?
Hi, If you have a clutched model, this video could be of use to you. It shows a different process to removing the belt on a DC04 model, although unfortunately it is not the yellow model. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ycicf5Ut59g.html
Thank you very much. The crappy Dyson book made no sense at all (No wonder he pissed off to China!) Did exactly as you showed in your excellent video and it worked first time. Cheers!
I wish to replace brush roller belt. On removal of sole plate the belt and motor shaft are still covered. New sole plate has belt cover incorporated. How do I remove existing cover to gain belt access please.
Hi Clive, if you read the comments below you may have found the answer to your question. There are two 'types' of DC04 cleaners, your type has a clutch system that connects the belt in a different manner. For more information see our another video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ycicf5Ut59g.html
I have received a replacement for my belt, soleplate and brush from you guys today but the belt feels so stiff and there isn't enough room around the spindle to slip the belt around. there are codes on your belt which makes yours more a genuine part than what you've supplied me. I'm still struggling with it
I have carefully studied your video and I have been able to fix it now. my trick is, I stretched the belt apart with my two hands to get the belt tuned to the stretching using the the screwdriver, I must say I'm happy with the parts received and how it's effectively working. Thanks once more.
My grey and yellow DC04 has the belt enclosed, with no visible access to the spindle that comes out from the motor. I also notice in the video the filter cover on top comes off effortlessly but mine is stuck on hard and would probably break if I tried to take it off. I bought a new belt for £5.99 (a pretty price for a small bit of rubber) but now I don't know how to proceed.
If your DC04 has a clutch, follow the correct video for instructions, this video is for a non-clutch model. There is also an extra screw which you need to unscrew to remove the cover... look for the hole in the base behind the motor spindle - you must make sure the vacuum is upside down with the base clicked into the normal 'upright' position to access the screw through the hole - and it's the same size torx screw as the other two... hope this helps.
Thank you, guys, for trying to help. I am actually in a friend's apartment, while between jobs abroad. As it is not mine, I gave up on the Dyson and got my old Henry vacuum out of storage. It has great suction and lifts all the fluff, crumbs and grit which the Dyson left behind. I just changed the bag on the Henry in 30 seconds. What a great design. Having inaccessible parts which may need to be changed, e.g a belt, is not good design.
Hi I have the same dyson in the video and have lost my original belt can you tell me the code for the belt I need please also if you could tell me the model number that would be amazing to Thank you
Oh, okay. I'd forgotten the DC04 had a clutchless version. Please don't use a screwdriver on the soleplate screws - they are curved and a new-style ten pence piece is a much better fit and less likely to mash the heads up.
The one shown in this video does not have a clutch hence the belt connects directly to the motor from the brushes. There is also a DC04 version that has a clutch and two drive belts.
I soooo wished I had watched this before I changed the belt on mine 5 mins ago. Perhaps my hands wouldn't be bleeding and my stress levels through the roof. I was rolling around on the floor with it like I was in some form of WWF match! :/
Hi OJ, at eSpares we can help our customers in many ways but unfortunately turning back time is out of our powers. Well at least you have resolved your immediate problem and have practical experience on how useful we could be in the future. :-)
On many Dyson manuals replacing the belt is not covered. In addition a lot of customers may have misplaced their instructions so this video has been viewed nearly 75000 times.
my dyson dc04 isnt like this model is there another model of DC04 mine is the purple and green model, it does say DC)$ on mine, the brush is different and i dont have the long part attached to the brush to show the belt inside the machine.
