The voice is world class, he was robbed at the Cardiff singer. He should have won the Main Prize at Cardiff - they sacrificed voice over glitz & glamour. He is totally ALL voice - it's all in his voice - not a showy performance like many others. Superb.
It was an amazing instrument seven years ago, but he has worked out the kinks since then. It is now much clearer, and the top is better integrated. IMHO.
@@ceriellis1090 I'm not hearing the squillo produced by the great singers of the past this is a live recording not a studio one, I'm not hearing the ring I hear in Bastianini, Warren, Ruffo, Merrill etc. Being successful these days is not contingent on the use of squillo etc as most of the modern audience don't know what it is imho. It's a warm rich voice but does not sound like a verdi baritone to me.
@@jezamania Aye it's much easier to sell a fat rich voice to an audience I agree though I think that sitting on the other side of a recording and nitpicking a wonderful voice is just so pointless, especially since you're already removed from the experience
@@ceriellis1090 lack of squillo is not nitpicking...every singing voice should have squillo in it, certain voices types like verdi baritones and heldentenors simply have more.
@Daniel Bouhadana really old recordings like grammaphones have a lot of distortion but one can still hear squillo as it is a specific quality of sound. The recordings both audio and visual from the 50's onwards are more reflective of greater squillo production imho.
Bastianinni and Ruffo are the top off Baritons, Hvorostovsky as wonderfull as he was (LOVE him) IS far FAAAAAR behind. And now about Amartuvshin': he has years ahead to prove his finest as singer and complete artist, BUT: the quality of the voice is AS GOOD AS IT GETS. Its like mixing Bastianinni's and Warren's voices. It's UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I acknowledge the fact that Amaturvsin has an illustrious career ahead of him... But opera isn't what it used to be anymore. Even the best artists we have today do not come close to those of the past. Yes, his timbre is exceptional, but compare his performance to a titan's like! Bastianini and you will feel a noticeable diffefence.
