The Surron is pretty much the target on the list in a lot of cities. I live in WI and people ride them on bike paths, which pisses a lot of people off. My bike will do 60mph but when on a bike path it's no faster than 11mph with people around. Common sense goes a long way in not getting your bike banned, but as we all know some will kill it for the rest of us that do use common sense when riding.

Unfortunately, even the most common sense people with nobody breaking the law they’ll find the one or two bad people and make the entire group look horrible. I take that into account with everything I hear when I hear a bad cops. I assume all cops are bad now if that’s how we’re gonna live our life in America and make the narrative as when you see one or two bad apples the entire bunch of behold and there’s nothing you can say that’s why laws are being created and I feel the same thing happened to everything in America police officers for once How about getting rid of qualified immunity look how many people that they hurt innocently how much damage they caused with frivolous laws that they like to bend to their will, but we don’t wanna talk about that. I’d rather talk about that than being any vehicle of any kind we’re talking about something that cost the country millions of dollars a year versus something that is not cost the millions of dollars the year if anything it generates revenue for people spending money

I bought my daughter a Radrover 6 when she was 12. I went riding with her for a long time to make sure she understood and followed the rules of the road for bikes and how to respect people on trails. She rides unsupervised now without issue. My city is nothing but hills, so no kid wants to ride a bike that doesn't have some assistance. Would I buy a child an electric dirt bike capable of doing 40mph+? No. We have dirt bike trails here, but that kind of speed for someone who doesn't have a driver's license and/or zero prior experience is just irresponsible. (I'm not talking about kids who have been riding dirt bikes since they were little and know what they're doing) The bottom line for me is that the adults who are buying these types of vehicles for their kids are responsible for teaching them the proper way to use them and showing them videos of what happens when they are reckless. Don't just give it to them and hope for the best.

Nothing new. Had a YZ80 dirt bike when I was a kid and got caught riding on street. This is no different. Just because they are electric, doesn’t mean they are somehow legal to ride on street or paths. Cops down here in San Clemente are starting to crack down too. Too many entitled underage kids, riding with no helmet, opposite direction of traffic, or on sidewalks, doing wheelies and tricks. Just too many things, no license, underage, no helmet, no plate, not obeying traffic laws. A few screw it up for everyone

This exactly. I started following eBike channels a few months ago, and people constantly try to argue that something that looks like motorbike and rides like a motorbike somehow isn't a motorbike because it's electric, and it shouldn't be counted the same as a gas-powered motorbike that does exactly the same thing. Wrong. I'm all for electric eBikes and e-Motos for fun, commuting and work, but let's get them sorted out into proper categories and treat the fast ones exactly like mopeds and motorbikes.

The Surron will be the first bike to get banned. Too many are not there doing videos and riding badly. If it looks like a dirt bike and it is on a trail that people or other slower traffic is using the trail stay off of it with a dirt-looking bike so the rest of us don't get banned also. These people ride without regard to anyone else. They are ridding these things at 30-50 mph and they are illegal on the road and are intended for off road only. Legal e-bikes are limited to 20 mph max speed. Take brain dead kids and adults and they ride that way. They ride them on side walks meant for only people and even ridden on the road the rules that apply to vehicles apply to bikes. So many blow thru stop signs ride into on coming traffic to name just two. I have been ridding my Rad Power mini for 5 years and have never had a problem, curtesy is something that goes a long way and these people do not know what that means. They do not know what danger they are putting their parents in financially and I guess the parents do not understand that either. @ShadLife
@ShadLife 4 месяца назад
Its popularity will definitely get Sur Ron style moto bikes banned all over the place. The issue is that there are enough riders being wreckless as well as dangerous that it ruins it for everyone else being responsible. Many of the younger riders definitely don't care much about everyone else around them, including cars, pedestrians, and regular cyclists. It's unfortunate, but now cities are talking about it because it actually has started to become a problem. If people just learned to be discreet and respectful while riding it wouldn't be an issue. But when riders are in big groups taking over roadways doing wheelies, showing off, and making a big scene...well, it gets noticed. So I fully expect, not want, local governments to come down on e-moto bikes. If you think about it, mopeds and scooters are regulated and an e-moto is essentially that same thing, just with an electric motor instead of gas powered one.
@shockadellick

However, how will they ban Mountain Bikes that equip CYC motors and can reach speeds of 50mph in 5 seconds? If Surron's are banned? The next trend will be mountain bikes with 8kw which will reach 50 to 60mph in a shorter distance. Place an age requirement on the users are the only true solutions. 18 years of age should be the requirement. Why 18?...that's where children begin to understand they can be charged as an adult and taxed.

This is a great video. In my area I can see how this could become a problem. Minute 5:36 hits the nail on the head. Listen I ride an ebike that isn't slow but I respect everyone around me when I am riding. So here is a solution. As the community we should teach and get involved so this doesn't hurt all of us. I often think that this explosion of ebikes is like when motorcycles from the late 50's into the 60's is very similar. Instead of banning them go out on your bike and interact with them and maybe set an example. Stop complaining, start nurturing. Not all of them are like that and they interact with me. The ones that are like that don't interact.

I’m a middle aged married man and business owner… And I would be a menace on this thing. Not all the time, but it’s just too tempting. I grew up riding my dirt bike everywhere (illegally) before I could (legally) drive. If a LEO came anywhere I’d just go off-road. They were wise enough not to chase. I never destroyed property-public or private- but I wheelied, skidded, slid around corners, and definitely would have burned through intersections like this kid/clip if that had been a thing. These things are way too powerful and fast, etc. to be without a license. I love e-bikes, and the fact that I was looking at clips etc is probably what drew me into this algorithm and clip. Teenage boys are always going to succumb to pushing the limits of hooliganism … God gave us way too much testosterone for the amount of reasoning at that age. We caused some problems for sure, but we weren't stealing from stores or spending all day looking at a screen. These bikes are fairly new and yes, they should be given to responsible enough kids. But man, I would much rather my kids be living life on a e bike than on an e screen. Get em into bikes, and they'll never have money for drugs. If people understood that e bikes could save even a small part of a generation, they might think differently. E bike riders, kids out there ripping it up, save face, have fun, be respectful of others, and give riders a good name. Keep the freedom alive but they'll take it away if we use the freedom to negatively affect the community we live in.

Oregon just updated their ebike laws - you need to be over 16, a licensed driver, or have a learner's permit to even ride an ebike of any class in public areas - just like mopeds, motorcycles, and gas scooters (hopefully soon we can register them so we can get insurance to protect us from uninsured drivers who would skip on our medical bills). In Oregon, you are eligible for your learner's driving permit at 15, so basically nobody under 15 years of age should be on a powered bike of any class or type or ticket, impounding, etc. They're not requiring a driver's license/permit unless you're 16 years old or younger, so as soon as you're 17 you don't even need a license. This makes it really easy to offer incentives for younger drivers to be more aware of their environment and consequences because they can take their driving privileges for reckless driving regardless of what vehicle they're riding and reckless driving here is pretty expensive ticket to deal with, in money and time (you might even go to jail); in Canada reckless driving is a straight up felony. If a kid has a job or they're off to college or whatever - losing those driving privileges is going to STING and they will think twice and three times before going ahead and doing the stupid thing anyhow lool This doesn't change anything for BLM service roads, OHV parks, etc - just get your OHV sticker for your vehicle (12 bucks) and there's no age limit/power limit/etc. Tear it up all day long and all night long if you want too.

It’s inevitable. Ultimately, e-bikes have become viable alternatives to ICE motorcycles/scooters. States want the income from registration. To be fair, when an e-bike has full street legal lighting and does 40 mph, that’s the same thing as a Honda Navi.

What is coming is everyone will require to register their ebike and purchase a tag/plate. Then a mandatory insurance on the ebike for liability and potential injury to others if in an accident. Liability coverage minimum $2 millions. Insurance cost would be around $200 per year.

This is where it starts. I knew this was going to happen. Remember when E Cigs first came out? We were in a golden age of unregulation. Then came the big government hands chocking out more and more of our freedom. Now E Bikes are becoming regulated. Soon you will need a license and have to pay more taxes to get it registered.

There are a lot of municipalities that already have ordinances that restrict dirt bike use on public roadways. The problem is that ebikes have kind of slipped through the cracks and aren't really defined in the same way as a gas powered dirt bike. I think you will see a lot of places playing catchup in order to limit off road/dirt ebikes from using public roads and paths. I don't even understand why anyone would want to buy an off road ebike for road riding. There are so many better options out there. I did love the mini bike being impounded. Definitely an oops by the editors. All that being said, passing laws and regulations won't be totally effective. Just look at Washington DC, which has a huge problem with gangs of ATV riders who terrorize their city streets. ATVs are not legal on roads in DC but it doesn't stop these gangs from ripping through the streets causing chaos.

(Just common sense policy for kids under 18)👍The emergency ordinance adds “operational regulations” that carry fines. Those under 18 must wear helmets, and all passengers must have their own seats. Fines can range from $500 to $1000. The Hermosa Beach Police Department has released several photos of seized E-bikes, some of which more resemble real motorcycles.Jun 5, 2024

1. The city of Hermosa Beach is corrupt as hell. 2. The cops never have enforce e-bike laws and I doubt they ever will 3. These kids are straight up menaces on these bikes, they don’t know how to properly ride on the road. 4. It’s the rich parents buying their kids these crazy bikes and not taking responsibility to teach them how to use it. 5. This entire thing would be solved if to use an e-bike you needed to have a license.

imagine if cars didn’t exist in society until fairly recently and all of a sudden kids started driving cars, running over people and crashing into horses and bulildings. no matter what type of vehicle, it’s always the driver at fault. banning isn’t a final solution but i suppose realistically it’s a point of where to start sending a message to the troublemakers.

Um not really a good comparison. Since scooter and bikes have existed before the cars? Just not with motors and still we got people who can't seem to follow simple rules with their bicycles. Like making way for traffic or waiting at a light or maybe don't swerve into traffic including and not limited to other bikes and people and cars etc. They still seem to crash and bash their skull open. Because no helmet. But hey oh well.

His point is that you can do a lot more damage on a bike doing 50 mph then you can one doing 15. Just like any rambunctious teenager with limited maturity and acxountability can do a lot more damage in car than on a scooter.

Hey they can ride in private property or off the beaten path, but not in the city Buy them a regular ebike if they will ride in the city. Although that doesn’t stop kids from being kids

Isn't there a chance to get these impounded moto e-bikes (aka motorcycles coz bikes normally come with pedals) back? What do the cops do with them piled up at the end? In our country you need to send in a form, have them licensed and put on a plate plus follow the traffic rulez otherwise they are all considered as illegal and be confiscated (temporarly) unless they can prove or argue to have their own private property e.g. range to ride them on or just sell em. It's truly a shame there are a bunch of critters who always mess up and ruin the reputation of the entire scene. I'm not surprised it results in any new laws, ordinance or even bans. There ya go...

If you got that much money, hire someone to drive your kids and their bikes to an area that’s got somewhere to ride legally. Maybe that’s a business idea. Create an app where you can hire drivers with trucks and trailers that can do this. I mean if they are that rich in that area it should work right? Idk I’m torn on this issue. I don’t agree with the people who ride crazy around others but I also don’t want laws telling me I can’t ride respectfully in my area either.

I was thinking about getting one of these e-bikes. But I change my mind. I got a salvaged Kawasaki, Z 400 for half the price. I can take it up to the gold country and get away from everybody and their rules. It will also last twice as long Easily compared to these Chinese bikes that I wouldn’t trust. It’s also insured so if I get an accident my butt is covered. That’s what concerns me the most about these bikes. If you get in an accident with one of them, I get a feeling it will be your fault no matter what.

The problem isn't any vehicle. It's the riders. There are a lot of irresponsible riders out there. The simple solution would be to ban the shops from selling them to the criminals after an ID check, so the problematic kids and adults can't buy them anymore. The responsible people, however, will want to keep them safe from being stolen by the same problematic people, so best to store them to a parking with camera. Those would help to greatly restrict the problematic people in the long run. So long as you're irresponsible, you'll never be allowed to ride ever again.
