Was recently notified by city officials that the pressurized irrigation water has tested positive for E. coli. I'll go through the notice and recommendations from local and federal levels and what I'm choosing to do moving forward.

Interesting. I think they are worried about the run off watering the lawn? does your run off go into drinking water like it does here in CT? Some of our beaches are closed due to "bacteria" in the water. I'm on city water here and hope someone is on top of it. But then we wonder about rainfall, that could be toxic too. Look what happened with the chemical train derailment explosion. So much went into the atmosphere.

I don’t think it’s really a huge deal. The runoff goes into the sewer system. This water is a completely separate supply from the house water. It was never intended for drinking.

Does the water company there or the CDC have any idea where the Ecoli came from and how it got into the water supply? Is there a residual concern on things that were sprayed with t his infected water? Since this water supplies the fire hydrants, what precautions are the fire department and the firemen taking? I guess there are no washing cars or other uses allowed with the contaminated water. Good luck with this, Jimmy!

The water comes from larger reservoirs that are supplied from snow melt. It’s transferred into local reservoirs throughout the city. From what I understand it was found in one of these local reservoirs. The city has been shock treating it since discovery. The only real precaution that needs to be taken is to not ingest it. Its only purpose is for irrigation anyways and fire suppression. Pretty sure the firemen aren’t drinking it.

Up here, in Farr West, we also use secondary water. I've always been nervous when I'm working on or adjusting my sprinklers, that I usually get soaked. I try not to get it on my face or near my mouth or anything like that. I saw that there were also a few cases in Cache County as well just a recently. Makes me concerned for all the people who swim in these reservoirs. I'm always amazed at the crap I find in the filter at the end of the season. Found a small frog last year.

It is interesting to think about what's in the bigger reservoirs that are used recreationally.

The correct term is potable water....

If you come around here you will hear two terms - culinary, and secondary (aka pressurized irrigation). The culinary would be considered potable water. The secondary irrigation water is not.
