I once heard a woman screaming for help during this covid pandemic. I suspected another victim getting robbed. I'm asylum material, disabled, yet her screams so terrified me I hurried to her. A man was trying to rob her. I rushed to the scene. The man saw me, and other men came to help her, that he fled without her groceries. I'm not a fighter, I'm beat down by work injuries, yet something triggered me. When a woman screams as if she is being murdered, you just might get triggered. Your heart, soul, humanity... just might activate to motion. You may think you're weak, a coward, but wait and see when that moment arises. You're not a coward. You're a human being.
Love, love, love E. E. Cummings! He’s one of the poets I look up to most, the one that makes me want to structure poems in a way that no one has ever seen before. I just love how he was never afraid to do things differently, from the way he worded things in earlier poems to the way he structured them later on.
Thanks a lot for that beautiful edited video. Didn't know about E E Cummings before. Just saw some episodes from "Lucky Hank" series from 2023 with good actor Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Nobody etc.) and his name were mentioned in that series. And I got curious and search on RU-vid on his name. And ended up here as first hit. Glad your video were my first introduction to this author. Your beautiful edited video are like a poem by itself. Your view or meaning of this poem are interesting. A poem can be open for interpretations. I were all thou interpretating the poem slightly different. The way "Loneliness" are broken down (or in other way) divided by the sentence "a leaf fall) made me interpret it, that the person that were in the state of mind of loneliness, got out of that state of mind because he observed suddenly a leaf were falling down. A simple action made by nature. Nothing spectacular. But could be enough for a person that were in a state of "loneliness", or even depressed state of mind if we use our imagination (or perhaps over analyse a bit). That kind of person would appreciate to get his dark mind or clouded thoughts broken and to observe a simple situation in nature. Or in other words, live and observe here and now. To be present. Instead of being deep in ones thoughts. But to talk about something else than it's meaning, I like the way the poem were like a puzzle to be put together. My gamer-personality or gamer-brain like that a lot. Play puzzle alike games like old "Myst" and eg. also the game "Portal" that were from start, just a small extra side-game to "Half Life". I feel that the very last line also lends itself quite well to this concept of oneliness through brief periods of supposed separation before the inevitable dissolution of isolation brings each back into connection again: iness - having to do with the state of being "i" This following the lines "one" and "l" in the form of the number 1, to me, underscore this concept of a universal "iness". Each birth, like the leaf falling, thrusts us into the solitary act of directing one life in a dance with the multiplicitous motion of others directing their own individual lives before the charade of such disconnection disintegrates into a laughable sense of clear connection simply become confused through our personal perspectives. In this, loneliness is but the choppy top of flowing waters carrying the ship of identity and ego above a deeper shared truth. We each are but everyone, and thus need to prove nothing to anyone. We are each and all operating within the same reality. It simply is. "Iness" and "oneliness" are then two sides of a same truth. "Iness" is inextricably "oneliness".
I appreciate this video's explanation but woould like to argue that it does not delve deep enough. While a lower case letter "l" resembles the number one (#1), it also resembles an uppercase "I" (depending on or enhanced by typography). That said, the first use of the symbol "l" can be a read as the lowercase l, pronoun I, #1, or the roman numeral I. Later the "ll" can be read as one #1), one I (one pronoun I, unity), or the second part of a two-part poem, with part I and part II being joined by the fa ll. Additionally, the first part [number one (unity)] and the second part are equal in unity, being both equal parts or a continuation of a single part. The section "one l" reinforces the concept of unity within duality. Is it the continuation of life, life after death, are they one in the same, or are they both distinct and the same? Is the perceived distinction and unity of things only a matter of symantics/perception? Is that why "(a" and "s)" are both (as) and yet distinct because "I(a" is dissimilar to "II s)"? The are definately not (as Is)... or are they?
Note: While the version of the poem presented here does not have it, most versions of this poem I have seen have a stanza break between "ll" and "s)". I do not know if the original had this stanza break or not.

Why don't you stop analyzing ee cumming's poetry and start finding the true and original voice in you by way of a slavish devotion to the pen and to the silence of your own consciousness?? You know, analysis has absolutely no value at all. What is analysis? It is the socially conditioned reflection on something at least partially beyond social conditioning, and in the case of ee cummings, the object of your reflection is way beyond social conditioning. So socially conditioned reflection in his poems has no value at all, besides to talk about a poet socially. This is so very far from understanding the poem, which is a silent and non-conceptual process of reading and experiencing meaning, which is not something in the poem but in your own consciousness of it. That is the primary phenomena of the poem, at once itself and also our own consciousness of it, which are not two different things but one primary substrata. But anyway, the point is, your own consciousness, and that of ee cummings, are equally capable of becoming windows into something beyond words and concepts. You have to shed all your thinking when you are writing and see what happens. Don't ever judge what you write, and then you might reveal yourself to yourself. Or else you might not. But why waste time analyzing? Secondary criticism is destroying our brains, and our freedom, as do mass produced poetry..
Well said. It is ironic, poetry. Using words to express a thing but a gift and an art form given to help the us to hear to possibly see and not a frog to be mentaly disected.
