In the first episode, I demonstrated that the 6AG7 and the 5U4G passed my Sencore tube tester evaluation, but it couldn't test my 807's. Now I've got a way to evaluate those 807's - how many will pass my tests?

Over the years I have used soft tubes MANY times in my 52 years as a Ham, mostly CW. Depending, a soft tube may only be down 15 -30% and still sound fine on the other end. Additionally, just that amount of loss will generally not be noticed on the other end compared to a fresh, high emission tube. After all, cutting the power 50% is ~1S unit or 3dB. So, don't be hasty in scrapping tubes which will still work for some time to come. Also, I have never had a soft tube just up and die during a QSO. They simply get weaker over many more hours of operation and at some point, I'll splurge and get a better soft tube.... 73, Glenn WA4AOS

Good to know, I will save them all and compare the BOB to the WOW once I get the rig put back together.

@@levelupeelab Just for giggles, I remember back in the late 70's early 80's guys being so bent on wanting their power output meter go as high as possible. They would by 6146W's instead of using the recommended 6146B's often used in the SB and HW transmitters/transceivers, used by Heathkit and others. Yes the,"W," did provide a little more power, as I recall, ~10 watts on 15 and 10 meters. Again, nothing the other station could ever detect but their meters went higher????? At any-rate, this was just enough extra current draw to zapp the pwr xfmr. True but SAD... Maybe this is left over mentality from 11-meters or simple non-technical confusion of the user. I have actually seen notes from Heathkit, warning op's to NOT use the "W" tubes. 73. Glenn WA4AOS
