Thanks Chris. It is a heavy beast with 2 batteries, but handles it fine. Main thing is to get the balance point back at least around 150-160mm. If nothing else, as Jon with Two Brothers review concluded, a single battery in the speed brake bay and she flies awesome. I sacrificed a little acrobatic performance for longer flight times by going with 2 HiV SMC 4400 mah packs. Jon went with a single 5000 in the speed brake bay and saved some weight and is probably around 170mm. 🤣 Check out his review as he's got a ton more experience than me.
Oh, man, I installed these FMS 1900KV in Freewing su35 and run it on 7s with Flyfun 80A ESC. Motors get a bit hot and only fly for 2.5 minutes but thrust to weight ratio is over 1:1. Fun for aerobatics. You're right these FMS EDFs have 25% more thrust than stock EDFs
Thanks Henry. Yup, the FMS fans are a nice upgrade, bet your SU35 performs much better with that upgrade. I also upgraded my Freewing Mig 29 with the 80mm FMS 12 blade 2100Kv inrunner fans which added about 20% more thrust over the stock Freewing inrunners. Put those Freewing fans in my 2000mm Freewing A-10 which originally came with outrunners and gave that a nice boost. It truly is. Too bad HH discontinued it, but then they do that with everything. Now that I suckered you into to checking out my videos, my other favorites are the A10: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-APnzmCVH4H0.html The Hangar 9 Beast: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rldyf20XQUY.html And the F4: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HL4F379KaSE.html BTW, my flying buddy RudyD54 turned me on to your videos. Flew with him today and he told me about you and tonight you showed up on my recommended list. Wild! So you have 2 big fans down here in Miami! 😎👍
@@hughwiedman9711 I'll check 'em out! My grandpa loves your b-24. Tell RudyD I said HUGE thanks for spreading the word!! And you have 2 big fans in New Mexico! Does RudyD have a channel? Thank you both for watching!
@@redbeardreviewsrc Thanks, yes he does, just under Rudy Delgado. Only a few videos, he's usually to busy flying to do a video. Couple on the B2 and his Mig that I shot and one on the Rafale. We need to do more on his aircraft including an F14 he's working out and an Extreme Flight Gamebird. We're both big Extreme Flight guys. His B2, not a great grass bird: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OmZYt48M6YA.html And his Mig with some nice flat spins: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4IkIHeGkUL4.html
@@hughwiedman9711 Love the B2! I will stop by his channel! Thanks again guys! Seems to be a lot of people who watch are from the East Coast and the South East.....HUGE THANKS TO Y'ALL!!
Thanks Steve, after fighting with this pig for years, it's now finally worth flying. Can't tell you how many times I almost sold it or "deep sixed" it. Next time I get the bright idea to buy an aircraft from HH, please lock me up and throw away the key. The few I have were discontinued long ago making spare parts a real issue, including the Hangar 9 aircraft I've bought. BTW, don't just wish you were down here, make it so! You and your CO are always welcome and we'll leave a light on!
JP, left the stock ESC's in. The recent FMS SU-27 and J-11 are almost identical, except paint scheme, to this older E-Flight SU-30, except they already come with the better FMS fans. You may want to get one directly from FMS. If you do and want to doo the double battery mod, a friend just did one installing the battery from the underside, thus saving the speed brake, a much better way to go than what I did. 😉
That's awesome. I just recently ordered one of these planes. The only thing I dislike about edf's are the short flight times. I've been throwing around the idea of 2 batteries in my 80mm f-16. But not sure how it will balance out with the extra weight. Do you just have the 2 batteries y'ed together?
Hey Brandon, thanks for the comments. I assume you got the FMS SU-27 or J-11, which is basically the same as my older E-Flight SU-30. The only difference should be that the newer FMS models already come with upgraded fans. My original SU-30 had horrible stock fans and it made a huge difference upgrading to the 12 blade FMS 3060-1900 Kv inrunners, at least 25% more thrust. So yours should already have these. That still left very short flight times with 1 battery. 2:45 on an SMC 5300 and about 3:15 on an SMC 6200 (unless I flew it like a grandmom 🤣). Tried an SMC 8100 - 903gr ( which I use in my 90mm F-16) but it was too heavy for the SU and required more throttle and left it too nose heavy, limiting any substantial increase in flight time. So the dual battery mod worked out great. I do not have the batteries y'd together. I cut the battery leads off where the two sets join from each ESC. Then I left the battery cable from the forward ESC traveling up to the nose (which also has the BEC on it) and soldered new cables to the aft ESC that goes into the speed brake bay I converted for a battery, keeping both cables as short as possible. Lastly, this bird flies best balanced at a CG of 150mm or better. The single battery makes balancing it there difficult, but it's much easier with the second battery further back. Even so, added about 3 ounces of lead in the tail to get there. I now fly it at 160mm CG and it flies awesome. Additionally, I programmed in flaperons for better take off on grass and the full span landing flaps really allow it to slow down and keep the nose up on landing. For me, it flies best on 2 HiV SMC 4400's 585 gr each, for at least 4 minutes or more of aggressive flying. Also flies on 2 SMC 5300's 684 gr each for 5-7 minutes of flight time depending on throttle management, but not quite as nimble as the 4400's, but close. So good luck with yours, you will enjoy it. Before doing the mods, this was the single most frustrating EDF to fly and I was getting to the point of moth balling it. Now it's one of my favorites, right behind the Mig 29 with TV nozzles and my 90mm F-16 and F-4's. Oh what the hell, I love flying just about anything. 😁
@Hugh Wiedman Correct it is the su-27. If I can get longer flight times regardless of improved performance or agility would be a plus. I've yet to fly it...but it's balanced at 150mm right now with a hrb 6200 6s and was thinking of adding a 4000 4s battery in the air brake bay just for more flying time. Not really sure how it will effect the esc's and other electronics. Been scouring the net looking g for ways to get longer flight times. 3 and 4 minutes just isn't enough!
@@brandonstradtner17 best way is adding 2nd battery, but it will need to be a 6S. Each fan has it's own ESC and they need to be set up independently each on their own battery. A 6S 5000 should fit in the air brake space. I use 3 SMC 5300's and can get 6-7 minutes. Check the Hobby Squawk SU-30 thread for more ideas. One guy uses 2 China Hobby 6000's.
@hughwiedman9711 I finally flew it today after doing the 2nd battery. After 5 minutes flying...I had 60% left on 2 6s smc 5300 lihv packs. 2 flights today...both flights, after taking off, flying around....the gear would not come back down in flight....but they work fine on the ground after belly landing in grass. Wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem after doing the 2 battery mod?
@@hughwiedman9711 Thank you Hugh for posting this info! My FMS Su27 is literally a garage dust collector because I refuse to fly it with stock shortcomings. I look forward to adding the second battery somewhere onto the plane now. Thanks again 🙏🏽
Sorry, I have no idea what the maximum speed is. I only use full throttle on take-off and going vertical. I can tell you the FMS fans provide 25% more thrust than the E-flite fans when using high discharge batteries like SMC.
