ELO has so many great songs see below but here is one that maybe you haven’t heard at work. It’s called Can’t get it out of my Head. One of their best in my humble opinion!
Exactly. It's one of my favourites of theirs, I hear all the other ones all the time on the radio and at my work. Then finally one day I heard Can't Get It Out of My Head and it was just amazing. I keep requesting it as well.
Hello my Brother. I’m a 52 year old African American male physician, husband, father of three, a LIFELONG ROCK MUSIC FAN and drummer. I Love your videos and greatly respect your reviews/reactions!!!!! Based on your reactions/reviews of bands such as Tool, Pink Floyd, Rush and your appreciation of the “musical journey” I respectfully recommend that you experience the artist Steven Wilson particularly the songs “Routine”, “The Raven who Refused to Sing”, “Pariah”, and “Drive”. Enjoy my Brother and keep the videos coming!!!
Gary Lindsey Well, I’ll back you up anytime you plug it & I see it!! The sad thing is they’re missing out, in a big way. With Jamel’s reactions as of late it’d be a great fit, too! It’s difficult when you’re up against 400K voices, that’s the primary thing ~ but keep trying!! You got a decent amount of likes, so, it’s promising!! I’ve loved it since I was a very little kid~ it’s way before my time, but my dad was a huge Beatles fan & had everything! I love his tribute to John, too, All Those Years Ago. Plus, many more.
I always thought it was about love. That love is a living thing and it’s a “terrible thing to lose.” Such a great song. Those violins get me every time.
You my young brother are a HERO to fans of "E.L.O."! At least you are to me. You check out a lot of a group's good songs like "Steely Dan", "Pink Floyd", "Led Zeppelin", and the Mexican & Latino singers. Like I've said before, you're doing a great job man, keep it going! Thanks.
The band’s lead singer and prominent songwriter, Jeff Lynne said, “I was even asked once if it was about a whale, Christ knows where that came from. It was just a song about nothing more than lost love….the words just rhymed, that all.”
Two live versions of this song, one filmed in London and the other in Philadelphia, are easily found on RU-vid. Must see them! The beautiful violinists are a sight to behold!
In my own opinion, I think it's about love. Love is truly a Living Thing. It's like a Garden, you have to work hard to keep it alive and thriving, if you don't, it will wither and die, just like anything else that is alive, and that's a terrible thing to lose! Once it's too late and you've realized that love is gone and you've neglected that garden until it's too late to bring it back to life, what a dive you'll take!
It's about loss of love. I highly doubt Jeff Lynne and ELO had a public statement about such a highly politicized and controversial topic, especially in 1976's pop rock scene. They weren't that kind of band.
So..... This song is about abortion ?? Jesus Fuck, usaa.. what kind of shrooms are you on? Cause that's the only explanation I can think of as to how you listened to this song and came up with abortion .. your self hate is actually kinda sad...
Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra from The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame site: "Picking up where the Beatles left off, ELO expanded the concept of great melodies, epic song structures and grand orchestrations. ELO added an exciting mix of elements into rock and roll, including disco rhythms and electronic studio wizardry. Imagine a marriage of tuneful, rocking pop songs with instruments from the symphonic realm, and you’ve got the blueprint for what made ELO one of the most popular groups of the 1970s and beyond. Jeff Lynne, ELO’s vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, co-founder, and frontman, conceived of a rarefied musical sphere in which cellos coexisted with guitars, and where classically tinged progressive rock intersected with hook-filled, radio-friendly pop. The result: ELO’s boundary-breaking approach to rock that resonated with a global audience, both as a pop singles act and as album-oriented rockers with deep-track appeal". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sbg8aUn4YkA.html
Both of those songs are fantastic, but "One Summer Dream" always kicks my butt. I get REAL emotional when I play that one!!! "Face the Music" is an ace album!
I don’t know what it was, but when I was nine years old and heard this song on my transistor radio, the violin melody used to scare me. I’m glad I got over my fear, I have loved ELO ever since!
The 70"s rock musician's wrote song's for everyone..they can be interpreted in many way's.. to fit anyone's situation and feeling's of the time..they were truely sent from who know's where to entertain us.." I SAY THEY WERE FROM ABOVE AND BEYOND OUR SKY'S"..
Heard this back in Late 1976-early 77, and fell in love with it. This song, and Manfred Mann's cover of "Blinded By The Light" were my faves at the time.
How did you know that this song was running around my head since yesterday? And I hadn't even heard it for a long time! And then I see on my home page that you put out this video--good timing! Thank you! I believe it's about losing the living thing of Love.
I saw ELO at the Montreal Forum in 1976, and this was the encore song. They had 3 cellists on stage, plus the full band and a whole lot of lasers. This song is forever burned in my memory!
Jeff Lynne explained many times that the song is about loss of love. He let it slip out that it was about a bout with food poisoning that he battled while on holiday in Spain.
Very simple, love is a living thing. Thats it. I've been an ELO fan since I first heard Mr. Blue Sky. Jeff Lynne didnt hide what he was writing very often. The majority of his songs were up front and to the point lyrically. What you heard was what it was meant to be. He wrote songs and produced for many people, including Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, and George Harrison. Actually formed a "Supergroup" with them on Harrisons suggestion. John Lennon once said that ELO were what the Beatles would have become, had they stayed together. Thank you so much! Peace out and stay safe!
Thanks for this! Love this song. Haven't contemplated the meaning very much, so it was interesting hearing you speculate. I do love the contrast between the upbeat sound and the very serious, at times, lyrics. Blessings!
This may be the first ELO song I ever heard that I knew who was playing it, around 1976 or '77. Someday you have to play their incredible instrumental "FIRE ON HIGH". It got many hours of radio air time. Peace bro.
Watching your reactions to ELO has brought me into my umpteenth ELO Obsession™ in my life; they're all I've been listening to for awhile. I've been a fan since 1975, age 8, initiated my love for the string section in any song/piece of music which features strings. This song is eargasmic.
E.L.O always takes me back to childhood. I’m 29 and the best years of my life are the ones where it was only me and my mom, from about ‘94-‘00 in San Pedro. Anyway there was the best classic rock station in California, ARROW93.1, it mostly played tunes from the 60s and 70s but once in a while would play 80s rock, and E.L.O were one of our favorites...Sadly ARROW died one day...no joke, one day ARROW93.1 is on and my mom and I go to lunch and when we came back to the car turned on the radio and instead of music on ARROW was a steady heartbeat.
I think the song is about doing everything one can to hold onto love. Plain and simple... but deceptively upbeat, like so many of ELO's exquisite arrangements. Jamel/Jamal, I hope you react to ELO's "Wild West Hero". It's so good! ✌️
ELO... The BEST!! I never get tired of listening. So many artists I can't listen to the whole album but ELO is just so good . Love and Rain and Alright you should check out!
U don't know how much of a blessing U r to all of us. We appreciate what U r doing to make us smile and be happy for awhile. The good Lord put U right where we needed U as a great outlet. Ty
ELO's music is so fucking good that you can't explain it with words. They are in a level of their own. And so MANY great tunes...u'd need a discography just for all the hits.
ELO were such a Big und the seventies and 80‘ here in Europe. So great Albums so many good Songs. Lots of Memories. And he Produced so many Great Albums for others. Roy Orbison, Traveling Wilburys, Xanadu, Tom Petty, The Beatles, George Harrison, Bryan Adams.
To Jeff, the melody and arrangement was the most important thing. He would record the song, laying down all the parts first and then write the words. To me, that's incredible. People have tried to put a lot of deep meanings in the lyrics to Jeff's songs, but they were generally very straightforward.
I was a kid when this song came out, and for the longest time I thought it said, "It's a leather thing ..." Was for sure he was talking about a wallet, for it is a terrible thing to lose.
I remember sitting with my sister in about 1977 is was 15, listening to this song. She was pregnant & asked if I new what abortion was & when it was done. She never had an abortion but it has always stuck with me. She passed away in 1988. Her son is a magnificent human.
Although this song was popular when I was in Junior High, it now always reminds me of the closing credits in the movie "Boogie Nights". And it's one of ELO's best.
