My father used to play this on his violin when I was a child so I know every single note. I am sure my father would love Chris Thiles' version as much as I love it!

Ahhhhhh!! OMG dude! I don't think there's a violinist around who could do a better jib of making music than this young man just did. BravOH Chris. Unbelievable.

Yeah, this was amazing. If you liked it, you should check out Bela Fleck doing this same piece on the banjo. It's on RU-vid somewhere. He put out a whole album of classical music he'd transcribed for the banjo.

Fantastic. The time he gets from his mandolin is incredible. His accuracy is also incredible. Doesn't miss a note. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Sad to say, probably the only person to get me to listen to classical music. My ignorance, my loss.

Not sad, absolutely great! There are other crazy and wonderful renditions of classical music. This classical musician doesn't mind at all if you get it that way!

Hopefully he will record the rest of the sonata's and partita's soon.

You Chris Thile are the man of the mandolin. Mind you there many great mandolin players out there, but you top them all.you get much respect from me and probably all the mandolin players around the world. You are Gods gift to the mandolin and the world.

How could Herr Bach imagine such instruments would be born to give new voice to his compositions? Bravo!

ThePapasmurf1946 It's great, right!? But actually, mandolin was around in Bach's day. Vivaldi even wrote some concertos for it.

Ryan Ross The mandolin was around in Bach’s day... but not as it’s known today. The Baroque mandolin was tuned in fourths and had 5-6 course much like a small lute. Early concepts of the modern mandolin, which shares more similarities with the violin in terms of tuning, did not come into ideation until the Classical and Romantic eras.

Don't shoot me, but when I hear Thile play Bach partitas, I think that Bach must have written the partitas for mandolin, not violin

Wow, wow, wow. Oh, why *three* wows? The original uses double-bowing, moving across two strings at a time, and Chris is reproducing the effect by striking a string and letting it sound. I've heard lots of other players (mandolin, guitar) who do a fine rendition, but have not put as much thought into their playing, and do not bring out Bach's original (and brilliand) use of double bowing. Just gott'a say wow once more.

Такое совершенное интонирование и агогические тонкости недоступны ни одному скрипачу в мире.

Amazing technique but a bit sloppy and not musical. On RU-vid there's a Speed contest on this piece. Most folks only understand volume and dexterity, tone and soul are the realm of very few. He is a marvel , slowing down and listening to himself he would reach the sky.

Gotta disagree. I thought it was quite musical and expressive. To each their own.

@@randalbladel2817You are right. When someone Is that good the listener's perception becomes a personal matter. For instance, his superb F style instrument may not be the best choice for some and the recent trend for ecstatic faces for me Is very distracting when done by pretty girls and weird for men, but Bream and Fisk pioneered scary grimacing. If we all liked the same car, girl and food.....Twilight Zone.

Having played this on violin, I’d imagine it is considerably easier on a mandolin

My daughter who is a fine violinist could never get the hang of a flat pick on a mandolin. Give it a try and get back to us.

I play both, I learned this piece for the violin, I'm not a great mandolin player...at all, but I'd consider it harder on the mandolin. It's not written for that instrument. I loooooove this soooo much though, he sounds amazing!

If you listen very , very carefully, you might hear a few bum notes. I don't promise anything, but if you slow this down to maybe a tenth of the speed you will have a better chance.
