Join us this week, as we make our way back from The Hilton Garden Inn in Doncaster.
Later in the day we decided to go out with the children, and that's when we experienced a restricted charge rate on the second rapid of the day in our 40kWh e-NV200.
Sure enough the van has some form of cooling, meaning the end result isn't as extreme as the 40kWh Leaf, but nevertheless it's still protracts longer journeys by slowing the charge rate.

‘Slow down!’ Wise words from Sharon 😂 Ah the Humber Bridge. I’ve surveyed a couple of times under there when I covered holiday on a survey vessel based in Grimsby 👍 brings back memories. Great video btw 😬

Cheers Beardy... too kind as ever 😁 Where's the fun in making it to a destination without some fear of not making it 😁😁 As a child we'd go sit on the Humber foreshore and watch the construction... this was before the days of theme parks.. and it was a cheap day out for me parents... it's still a magnificent bridge.... All the best Beardy, have a great day.

e-NV200 Adventures you’re most welcome. I’ve past under many bridges in my time at sea and the Humber is one of the most impressive. Tower Bridge has to rank the No1 for me. No matter how many times I’ve been under it there is something special about it. If you and the family get down to London I highly recommend a trip on the Thames. Some amazing sights but avoid the converted WWII amphibious ‘Ducks’. They are London Fire Brigades most frequent river customer....I’ll say no more 😬

We've been all around the world, seen the most famous sights, but other than going around the M25, we've yet to venture into central London... I'm sure we'll do it one day.... avoiding the fire hazard "Ducks" 😁😁

You good lady must be extremely patent. She really looks unhappy with you doing vlogs but is still good enough to work the camera for you. I assume she is a reluctant RU-vid Star.

Evening Peter, we don't get much time away from the children, so when on the Friday evening where we went to the Hilton without the kids, I said that we were making a video, she was far from happy. Of course this then just became a Friday and Saturday of making videos... so yes indeed she was "cheesed off" with me, putting it mildly :o) Hopefully she'll cheer up by the time we make the next video... well pending divorces aside :o) :o) She loves me really. Hope your meat free days are still going to plan :o) All the best, thanks for watching.
@peterjamesroberts-thejolly2860
Yes still meat free most days although did have meat sausages today and will probably be eating a lot next week as I don't want to have to move it all to Upper Heyford.. 6 days until the big move and about 2 weeks until my good lady becomes kinda homeless (she have a home with me when she finishes Nursing training, but is selling up in Suffolk) See you on the next Vid hope to start making some myself soon.

Not so much a long distance holiday wagon for the family as a school run bus. Such a shame. The clue about MPV is in the name - multi purpose vehicle. Nissan seemed to have forgotten to read the script. Keep sharing as it is very informative .

Cheers John... yes it does indeed have it limitations, which is a real shame, because these limitations have been engineered in, to shield Nissan from battery warranty claims. I suppose trying to put a positive spin on things, they do now provide a 10 year battery warranty, so we've got peace of mind for a good long while!
@johnnorth9355
@johnnorth9355 6 лет назад
10 year warranty on the battery but you will only get 5 years worth of mileage because of the limited battery charging speed :-) .
@jameshoyles4261
@jameshoyles4261 6 лет назад
8 years battery warranty or 100k miles, as you know from I drove the same spec van and did 460 miles in a long day!
@TeslaModel3Adventures
@TeslaModel3Adventures 6 лет назад
@@jameshoyles4261 I tried unplugging, and to get it to take a higher charge, but to no avail... I think in all honesty, 60mph is going to be the way we overcome longer treks... how many hours did it take doing your mammoth journey?
@jameshoyles4261
@jameshoyles4261 6 лет назад
Best do 55 on clock 50 Real mph that will help and make the journey (longer)! I did like 6am home by 10pm but was moving furniture also getting to know Glasgow as well!

The cleethorpes Charging point is free to use and you don’t have to pay parking while charging.

Cheers Dean, it was that one we were aiming for, until I floored it. After the rapid we still went to the car park with the 7kWh, and it was ICEd, so in a way me zapping the battery was a good thing, as we were forced to go to Trenton. Ended up parking on the front. All the best.

So for your second rapid charge, you are using a network and perhaps EVSE that is new to you? What are the specs on the EVSE? Can it deliver the power that you are used to? Our 2017 Leaf with no fan to cool battery can charge full speed at higher battery temps than you show (50 degrees C) and that is with outside air temp at 40 C. Wouldn't you have seen the charge rate taper off at the end of the first charge since the battery temp then was close to that at the beginning of the second charge? But wadda I know, just a dumb Yank ...

Mike, the 2nd charger is capable of 40kW... Nissan have engineered the software to restrict the charge when the battery hits high temperatures on both the 40kWh e-nv200 and Leaf. We experienced it again couple days ago... on the 2nd rapid. That said we then parked up on a 7kW for an hour whilst visiting a Christmas fair, the fan kicked in and stays on during non rapid charging if hot, which took the temp from 41C to 21C, and then after that we got a 3rd rapid charge back at the full 38kW... so bit of a top tip for e-NV200 owners, hot battery, stick it on a 7kW charge to cool it 😁👍
@mikecarter2737
@mikecarter2737 5 лет назад
@@TeslaModel3Adventures Sounds like a great workaround! 41C just does not seem very hot, though, for a BEV battery.

Surely this can't be right? Our 40kWh Zoe's cooling fans work whether the ignition is on or not and will cut in when necessary. Have you approached Nissan regarding this? Seriously worrying about my ENV200 which is due to be delivered next week!!!
@TeslaModel3Adventures
@TeslaModel3Adventures 6 лет назад
The dealership just states the Nissan point of view, which is... it works as designed. I wasn't happy with this, so I raised it as a problem, that is the restrictive charge on a 2nd rapid, and when I eventually spoke to a case manager I was told the same thing... working as designed.The last video I uploaded shows how the charge rate drops on the 2nd rapid. We need to do more long range tests. I'm hoping that if we stuck to 60mph, that we could keep the temperature down. Not great. Just like the Leaf, it wasn't an issue on the former model.
@TheOnlyJizz
@TheOnlyJizz 6 лет назад
@@TeslaModel3Adventures We had a 30kWh Leaf before the Zoe, it did get hot but never throttled back the charge. I honestly think it would be fine if the vans fans just had a live feed so they could stay on when the ignition isn't...I feel a second #rapidgate coming on!!
@TeslaModel3Adventures
@TeslaModel3Adventures 6 лет назад
@@TheOnlyJizz It is unfortunately... without question. They had problems with the battery pack on the 30kWh. Then they did away battery rental. Then they up'd the battery warranty to 10 years.. so they've engineered in rapidgate on the 40kWh e-NV200 to protect the battery... and to limit battery warranty claims. Well that's the way I see it.
@TheOnlyJizz
@TheOnlyJizz 6 лет назад
@@TeslaModel3Adventures Honestly, how are they getting it so wrong at the moment?? They wouldn't need to build in rapid gate if the bloody fans just stayed on!! I'll look into this further, it can't be too difficult to achieve, just need to work out how the system works and whether it can be hidden from the techs should a warranty claim arrise...that said, given their knowledge, you could probably wack an old Kenlow on it and they wouldn't notice!
@TeslaModel3Adventures
@TeslaModel3Adventures 6 лет назад
@@TheOnlyJizz Let us know how you get on. It could be just that the fan produces a similar cooling effect to the forced air through driving... and that it wouldn't cool sufficiently anyhow. I'm just surmising, I've genuinely no idea why they've built two different vehicles with the same problem.
@TheOnlyJizz
@TheOnlyJizz 6 лет назад
Ok, so I've just had a very informative conversation with an EV specialist company called Indra ( they of 24-40kWh battery upgrade fame) and it's good news and bad (of course) they've tried to install a manual override on the the battery cooling system, and the BMS just keeps throwing up error codes, so that's a dead end sadly. However they are working on a BMS update to resolve this which should be available next year! Unfortunately no date confirmed as of yet. So in the meantime, it's a case of leaving the ignition on if you want your battery cool down as farcical as that may seem....
@TheOnlyJizz
@TheOnlyJizz 6 лет назад
By "they" I mean Nissan are working on the BMS update.

Thanks for the info, really appreciated. Let's hope that this becomes a reality, and Nissan do put out an update. It may help with managing the battery temperature better. Here's hoping. Thanks again. Let us know how you get on when you get yours. All the best.
