It has become a song for singing at tangi, because it was sung numerous times at tangihanga, but can actually be sung at anytime, and any occasion. It's actually a hymn asking the Lord to instil into each and every one of us His seeds of aroha so we may grow with a heart that sees only good. Hope this has helped.

I cry listening to Delma Rae as she evokes memories of those I loved & who went before me. Her voice is so pure. Her other waiata are equally as beautiful. Ae! It is a hīmene & waiata tangi but who says you have to actually be at a tangihanga to sing it. If you want to, do so no matter where you are.

amazing grace is for tangi yes but its a prayer so sing it when you think about it. My mother is maori she's 83 yrs old. When we have a guitar & a piano we all sing & harmonize its lovely. I love ta manako it's a tangi song to . It's good for the soul , & makes us remember our whanau we loved . My mother had 16 brothers & sisters, she's the last one left.

l live in Adelaide we still sing maori songs like E Te Atua & Pamai , Hoki ma from the 60s. l use to go to Na te po ne ke in Wellington when l was a little girl. l cant understand the maori language now. l still got my pu pu.

Thank you for this. I remember singing this at school and have been looking for the lyrics recently as I have had a few opportuniites to sing Amazing Grace and felt the need to sing this in Maori, sadly I could only remember the first line. Beautiful song and beautiful singing
