It's very interesting! This pace also explains why I had to wait 8 months to get my i3

One question.. Why is so much done by hand??

Nice video, thanks! Due to a clac - clac noise @ low speed with low power I might have to open the gearbox, so the video helps a lot. Was able to identify the input shaft bearings as #6307 and the intermediate shaft bearings as #6308. Has anybody experience with a transient clac - clac / flap - flap noise between ~ 5 and 20 km/h? What was the reason in your case?

My car has been making a thumping noise that gets faster as speed increases and on deceleration it sounds a little worse. A couple weeks prior I hit a huge pot hole and bent my rim. My theory is I possibly damaged the transmission. Can these transmissions be rebuilt?

@@4N2IN0JA It could be that the outer drive shaft joint was damaged by the a. m. event, but a damage of the XMSN for me is highly unlikely. If you watch the above video backwards, it is a tutorial how the transmission could be rebuild ;o). The design is very simple, if any most probably one of the bearings will fail. For i3 w/o REX it might even be possible to replace the RH bearings 6308 and 6307 by removing the RH output shaft and RH XMSN casing only, leaving the transmission installed.

What is the black cap on top of the box for? For the oil fill? Thanks

@@stevenfleury5927 Yes and no. In operation the black cap allows the gear box to breath, depending on the internal and external air pressure. During production they use this opening to fill in the half liter of oil. The gearbox is "filled for life", there's no scheduled replacement. However, if the oil is drained, the maintenance manual says that you have to remove the RH drive shaft and fill in the oil there. Starting with a certain S/N you have no filler plug on the RH side, just the drain plug on the bottom. Removing the RH drive shaft is a hell of work, so I definitely would remove the plug on the top by gently pressing it together and fill in the oil there, instead of removing the RH drive shaft. I did it before and it works.

@@4N2IN0JA Due to economical reasons nowadays components get replaced and not rebuild. But it's highly unlikely that the XMSN got damaged. IMHO it is most likely a wheel bearings damage.
