Never thought about using maple syrup to sweeten up whiskey or bourbon that's why I like watching you always pick up on something

Hope you had a great Christmas... look forward to your long term taste test on this one, great idea💡. Agree with your analysis of using a PID (basically they don't work) .... you can set them to a manual mode where you can adjust the power in 1% steps which is handy for fine control.

Thanks, you too! To be honest I have tasted (wow) will have a tasting video soon I'm looking forward to it

Merry Christmas Randy, just love your videos and the honest and unpretentious way you come across. I have been distilling rum and gin in my home made 100% copper still (called Doris 😜 ) for nearly 2y now. Am now ready to try my first bourbon and will be using a lot of your videos as a reference for sure. Thank you and greetings from sunny South Africa.☀🥃

I’d also like to know if you are having any problems with your PID. Crazy about your videos. Keep up the good work! You are providing a great service!!!

PID is like a oven to keep at set temp. and I like using a PWM switch it's like stove Burner you can move up and down slowly

I have been watching videos on how to make moonshine I have been watching moonshiners and also moonshiners distillery ever since I started on both shows I’m very interested in making moonshine so I’m going to go ahead and try to make some moonshine but first I have to save up and buy a cheap Chinese still I think I’ll try with those first if I can make good liquor I think I will save up and buy a nice copper still Keep on cooking
@carboncopy110
@carboncopy110 2 года назад
Don’t waste your time and potentially health. Buy a 2” copper still head for the same price (around 120$) and a ss beer keg. Makes a perfect pot still that’s easy to clean and American made steel and copper.
@MARSOCraider0321
@MARSOCraider0321 2 года назад
@@carboncopy110 I’ve been thinking about building my own keg still I called everywhere where I live to all the beer distributors no one is willing to sell me a keg

Hi Randy good job throughout this series so far. I'm curious about your opinion and what type of problems you are having with your PID? Thanks in advance CHEERS!
@stillworksandbrewing
@stillworksandbrewing 2 года назад
Hi Mike I learned on propane and with that i feel you gauge how your still is running by your out put and with the PWM switch I can copy that. The PID I had trouble with seemed like my flow rate was up and down to much and also when it turned on the element I would see a puff of vapor from the condenser then was afraid of scorch the mash something I need to work on

I love your videos do you do a stripping run first or do you just run once?
@Mr.Brewer83
@Mr.Brewer83 2 года назад
I think he does just a single spirit run from watching other videos.
@stillworksandbrewing
@stillworksandbrewing 2 года назад
I like making 6 gallon mashes so I do not do a strip run 1 and done
@PoppaLongroach
@PoppaLongroach 2 года назад
In my 30 gallon I always make 2 batches of mash together (I normally have 4 to 6 30 gallon mash tons full all summer) I will run the first batch like I'm keeping all of it, then I dump all the likker from first run back into the second batch of mash and run it. Makes huge difference in the taste. I run it down to bout 10% and use the tails in my thumper mixed with a lil backing out of the thumper from previous runs. It goes in the thumper around 30ish proof
@debbiechisholm8193
@debbiechisholm8193 2 года назад
Curious. When it smells and tastes so good, why do you change it by adding oak and maple syrup?
@stillworksandbrewing
@stillworksandbrewing 2 года назад
It is good as a "white dog " but even better with oak and a little sweeting
@Mr.Brewer83
@Mr.Brewer83 2 года назад
A single run whiskey where the heads hearts and 90% of the tails are all blended as final, and we question whether it tastes good? lol
@stillworksandbrewing
@stillworksandbrewing 2 года назад
hi Mr Brewer as I said I discarded the first 6 oz. collect a 1/2 pint then collect full pints and when i think im getting closer to tails go back to 1/2 jars taste all use whats good works for me Cheers my Friend
