I'd like to build a Javelin. I remember staring at them in the magazines as a kid. But I'd need to buy 2 kits, one to drive and one for a shelf queen because these cars are a classic and look great.
Thanks for being real about having to film and build at the same time. 100% nailed it (it can absolutely suck the fun out of it at times). I think the way you shot this was just as good as a timelapse if not better. I for one appreciate all the effort you guys put into production (it's not easy). Great job again and the minty fresh cage is amazing!
Great review! I have a re-re Javelin. It was the first RC car I bought after 35 years away from the hobby. Now I am up to 10 kits since July, including a Turbo Optima, a few Tamiya re-re models of the ones I wanted back in the '80s, as well as a Schumacher CAT XLS - all yet to build. The Kyosho models are certainly a step up from the Tamiya ones. The plastic seems to be of a higher grade and toughness and I just love all the aluminum parts and hex head screws. Another great thing about these Kyosho re-res is they come complete with ball bearings! My Javelin features a Hobbywing Justock setup 10.5T, running on 2S lipo with the optional and recommended-for-brushless 51 tooth spur gear from Kyosho and a 30 tooth pinion. It goes like stink! Close to 40 MPH. The motor and ESC have held up well. They hardly get hot. The 51 tooth spur gear is very sturdy and shows no wear that I can see, even after running the hell out of it.
@@frankymal8640 : The kit is designed to support a standard or short pack. You just move the battery holder plates inward. My LiPo battery is 24mm tall and a snug fit, so make sure the short pack is no taller than that.
This is a really fun channel to follow. Ari, you’re a great host. I feel sorry for you and my nephew, two Met fans. He lives in Long Beach. Stay hopeful. haha
Thanks. Next vid up is the Kyosho Turbo Raider restoration... and I do the same style where after building a few steps and then reflecting.. thanks for the comment and support.
@@RCRetro i have a turbo optima on order with Tower Hobbies. I am searching for a Javelin but already have the mint green cage (my confidence in finding one is high). Where do you race?
@@scottnorton6834 yeah tower has been out of stock of the kyosho kits since the beginning of the spring 2020. The allow you to pre-order but... keep pushing the dates back. In the spring of 2020 I was going to pre-order the Beetle 2014 and Javelin. Kyosho said they would get them by July 2020. Then they kept pushing it back month by month and here we are March 2021 and still nothing. I hope they get restocked soon.
PS about your lightweight oil....Back in around 90-91, there was a trend at our local track to use water instead of shock oil. The "fast" guys said they got better action out of their shocks.... Who knows....
Just built myself a Turbo Scorpion re-release. The kits are amazing quality, and the car handles really well, but I do think it's maybe a bit soft out of the box. For your track though, I think that Javelin will be awesome.
nice. I may have to get one for my first Kyosho buggy. I'm a dedicated Tamiya fan but I really like this one. But I'm going to try and find a white frame.
Javelin or Optima for some good old vintage racing? I’m trying to decide which one to pick up? They seem to be virtually the same chassis. The Optima is actually available while the Javelin is not in stock. Come on Kyosho! Thanks again!
hey Ari I think the next four wheel drive you should make one belted and one should be chained drive just to see if there be a difference. you know they have an optional white colored one too there might be another colored one after the orange also.
Race #1 of season 2... this was in the 4wd drive class. If you didn't see that race here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uyZkEmgyBaM.html
I have one of these and just built and I built it with chain drive and I dropped a tamiya sport tuned motor in and it is very slow any ideas ? Is the motor to weak.
If you want something faster I'd recommend swapping the motor out. A tamiya Sport Tuned will give you a little extra oomph.. but not much. Possibly a Tamiya BZ super stock motor....or a 19turn motor if you want to keep it brushed. It depends on how much faster you want to go. Then there is the possibility of going brushless...there are many possibilities....off hand I don't recall what I have in my Javelin at the moment as I'm not home right now..
I'm sorry but I had to report you guys for being too awesome. Every video practically reminds me how little I know about RC. All the amazing products, tips, and tricks of an RC world before my time. Bish bash bosh!
And next time I’ll talk about the islanders and rangers too. I couldn’t help it. The moment I said 1986 the Mets popped into my head lol. 1986 Mets is one of the greatest baseball stories.
Mets / Jets doesn't matter lol both are bad but hey as a New Yorker, I'm a fan of both. I lived in Bayside Queens for about 9 years so it was great. I hopped on the LIRR one stop over to Citi Field and then back. I had a friend who worked for the Mets and always got great tickets for free. Unfortunately they no longer work for the mets and I don't live in Bayside any more.
@@RCRetro Cool. I grew up in Pelham Bay in The Bronx. I am lucky enough to be a Yankees fan, but unfortunately, I'm also a Jets guy. Ugh! Anyway, I live in a galaxy far, far away now.
