E20 Error Code on Washing Machine - easily fixed! 5-minute job! No Cost!

Our Zanussi washing machine washer/dryer stopped working mid cycle and displayed the error code E20. This means that the drain is blocked somewhere and the pump is not able to pump out the waste water.
In this video I show you how to clear the blockage and reset the machine. It is an easy problem to solve and takes 5 minutes, with no cost.
Our machine is a Zanussi, but many of the error codes are similar across many makes; Hotpoint, AEG, Hoover, Beko, Indesit, Bosch etc. Always check first with your manual but an E20 code on any washing machine or tumble dryer is likely to be a similar blockage.

Great video, big help! Took your advice, cleaned the filter, found that 2 socks (not a pair), a few hairpins and a big fly (! How did it get there!?) caused the blockage. Cleaned it, now works like a charm again! Thank you!

Wow....just wow. Thank you so much for this video. With your help I managed to fix the E20 error on Zanussi washer. Filter was clogged with gunk, paper clips and lego. Washer now working like new! Thanks so so much!!

Thank you soooo much. I was dreading have to get someone in. I cleaned the filter as you advised, but no good. I then tackled the drainage pipe as you suggested. It worked! I am so happy.

very helpful thanks - didn't know about the magic little hose at the front to drain the stuck machine and following your advice I disconnected the rubber hose from the drain and found a load of crud that was blocking it

This code has come up twice in my 18 year old machines stay here. On both occasions it was the pump motor needed replacing.

It turns anticlockwise. If it's stuck then use something easier to hold to help turn it, like a tea towel, or even mole grips.

Same thing, E20 is the drainage pump error code. In this case, as in most it's caused by a blockage in the waste water outlet somewhere though it could be a failed pump. I don't have a drier but the waste water needs to go somewhere so something needs to pump it out, plus there's probably less water and more fluff to block the outlet with a drier than a washer.
