Finally someone has tackled this ...I had a bruiser back in 1990 and hated the narrow front end. The idea I was working on is to cut the front axle housing and machine an insert tube with a collar in the center to mash the axles tubes up against ..... to set the width/width , (JB weld to glue in place) Lengthening the axle itself is another problem unless a whole new axle is to be made.. or an extender coming out of the diff. As you have built is the easy way , I have reservations with the wheels axis point , that's why I did't use that idea.

Jeez tell me about it. I hated this so much! They way I did is easy but it does also mean that the front wheel travel when you turn it since it no longer pivots as close to the knuckle as before. Still..it works!

@@AMPROEngineering I strongly believe anyone who does this "right" ie: longer axle tubes and axles shafts ? Will help sell more of these trucks .. ;) I can't believe Tamiya went to the trouble of making new axle tubes and kept the front end narrow.. LOL

Excellent! Although I do not have a Bruiser or an HG. But that small little part is really genious, compared to the trouble of re-inventing axles and such.

Thanks! I have a lot of people asking for Hex conversions but for this truck it is almost impossible. The reasoning is for a more scale look. I always say, get a Trailfinder 2. This truck has a certain look about it and I just wanted that look to be better.

I have an original Toyota 4x4 Pickup. The track width from the center of the tyres is about 175mm at the front and about 195mm at the rear. Close enough to the Bruiser if you consider wear/play, manufacturing variation and measurement error. The locking mechanism on the original pickup sits in the hub extension protrudes through the wheel, and the hubs are otherwise identical (at least in their dimensions) front to rear. Perhaps they wanted the depth of the stepside wheel arches to match the real pickup, and widened the whole rear end to keep the wheel/body offset the same all round. There is plenty of room to narrow the track so I don't think clearance would be the reason for the difference.

Very interesting. Thank you for the info. I have a friend coming by soon with one for a video so I will need to look closer at it.

Cool but have to say sad that you didn't include before and after pics buddy. Would have liked to see just how much difference the spacer made to it's profile!

Check out minute 3:40. I post a side by side comparison. You can see the 8mm gap between the front wheels. It is hard to tell the difference when it is by itself. I should have tried harder!

the old hilux is the same way,but it has the lock outs on the rear as well as the front but the rear is non fuctional, but yes the older one has the same offset and has 1.9 rims.

Lunchbox tires will easily stretch onto those wheels and will cause it to drive and handle much better. Atleast it does for blackfoots and their wider and look meaner to me and the tight fit means no glue needed with mod motors

I understand how hard it will be, I’m just the kind of guy that likes to take jabs and poke fun every now and again. But truth be told, that part is keeping me from enjoying my falcon knowing if I break it it’s game over.

that's awesome, you should produce a adapter to change it to 12mm
@AMPROEngineering
@AMPROEngineering 5 лет назад
Thanks. RC4WD makes that but it is awful since the wheels will stick out way too much. If you want a hex you will need new and narrower axles.

How does this effect the Steering Axis Inclination and load on the outside hub bearing? Just kiddin' Brutha! Why get so technical on a toy, right? ;)) Seriously though, how much extra sweep does this add to the tire when turning? At full lock does the tire interfere with the body whether the suspension is compressed or not? Also, I am running the Bruiser plastic beadlocks on my P407 "Chruiser". I'm guessing the spacer for the HG P407 will still work fine?
@AMPROEngineering
@AMPROEngineering 5 лет назад
No you are totally correct! It is a valid concern bit it is only adding 8mm so I guess I should do a moment calculation but it is minimal. At full lock there is no issue with the shell all though mine are both at stock ride height. When compressed mine actually rubs less in the front than it used to. The spacer should work fine but I have no rere bruiser parts to test! Sorry!
