Randy, if you want the intense peach flavor that is also lower ABV, filter what’s left in your thumpers, and then bring up your ABV with what you ended with. Gotta be careful at what point you stopped the run as if you went too low you’ll get the bad flavors left in the thumps. If you stop around 48-45 you shouldn’t be in the tails too much and then mix. Really good flavors. Try small amounts first before jumping in with everything. Cheers.
Happy new year, Randy! :) Great contend as ever. please be carefull with glas thumpers. A Vacuum is the worst you can do to a container. with Thumpers you turn an open system into a closed system. The Vacuum wich apperas when the boiler cools down, can let the thumper implode. A Vacuum release valve, or a simple Valve you can open at the inlet tube of the thumper would help a lot. Water increases it's volume 1700 times when it turns into steam. The same happens reverse, when steam turns back into liquid. be safe and take care.
Where did you get that fitting on top of the viewglass, that's perfect! Love your videos I just made my first batch from alot of your info! Much thanks!
Randy , I’m new to the scene and was wondering what you thought of a milehi 8 gal with a 3 inch stack. Want to buy a still and not sure which one to go with. By the way. Great videos. Thanks
Hi Tim, I have a mile high 8 gallon with a 2 inch and i love it i have not had any problems at all i think you would be happy with 2 or 3 column but if i had to choose i would go with 3 inch because it would run faster cheers
@@webcrawler3332 as long as it’s modern then yes you should be. You can pickle the brass if you’re not sure. I pickled mine regardless, rather be save than sorry.
Great video, I'm in need of a little help , what is the purpose of a stripping run and did you do one on this batch of mash. Thank you for your time and teaching.
ok a stripping run is lets say i have a still that hold 5 gallons and i have 10 of mash i can run two 5 gallon stripping runs hard and fast then when done add back into still run a slow sprit run me myself i us a 8 gallon still and i make 6 gallon mashes i do 1 and done
This may be a silly qubut instead of running your distant through the peaches. Is there a way just to inflavor the water at the end that you're going to cut your ABV down with? Like I said i'm kind of new and maybe it's a dumb question
Great work Randy I have a single 1/2 gallon thumper jar, and like watching it work! I want to infuse some kind of flavor into it, but the jar accumulates so much liquid during the run I’m afraid it would fill up before it was finished. Is there anything I can do to stop collecting so much liquid in the thumper?
Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like if you somehow got a blockage in the condenser, in a worst case scenario, the vapor could back-feed into thumper #2 when in bypass mode. Am I correct?
Great work and nice to see your thumpers in action. Did the peach flavour develop over time or did it stay just very subtle? I tried whacking a can of peaches directly into some spirit and even then, is was just ok. Trouble with most fruit like that is that they’re full of water and not have a particularly intense flavour. I’m sure you’ll develop this set-up even more, so keep Shining Randy 😎
Hey my Friend hope you enjoyed your time off hoping to see your video tomorrow yes the thumper jars worked great but was disappointed with the peach flavor transfer will work on it Cheers!!
@@stillworksandbrewing yes I sure did thanks! And hope you had some time off from the hustle and bustle of work life as well. I could see in your face that the peach wasn’t quite on point, but I’m sure you’ll nail it next time.
You'll find you'll run at a higher head temp because the thumpers eat a lot of heat. Peach is always hard to get good flavor. Did run of peach with fresh peach in thumpers. Ran slow (pot still) and barely had any peach flavor
I highly recommend half gal jars. Qrt jars will fill up pretty quick during a run. Never use canned peaches. Canned taste nothing like fresh and impart lil to no flavor.
hey Randy my name is Kevin and i have been thinking about getting into the hobby and any advice you might have as far as an inexpensive starter still would be great
Hi Kevin the only thing I can say is it is a fun hobby once you start you will get better and better just learn from your mistakes as far as equipment do your homework
@@stillworksandbrewing if your head vapor is that hot i can only imagine how hot your liquid is and thus more water making it to your shine and you may also be loosing some hearths in the heads and foreshots going that high while still into the heads
I have no experience, but is the thumper for extra ABV, and to give aroma? If so then is more of a Rich mash with peaches needed for flavor? Interesting testing ahead for you, I'm sure you'll find the right mix!
Glad she worked, Randy. Did your canned peaches have much flavor? Real home processed fully ripened summer peaches from my freezer make the canned peaches I have in my pantry taste almost tasteless in comparison. Very nice rig you built!
