I bought one back in the day and still have it, hardly ever used. My son is now driving my old Fast Attack Vehicle around. Great hobby that has contributed a lot to my daily bread and butter.

I had that Tamiya Toyota Hilux 4x4 it was a kit the transmission was assembled, was a great truck in the day wish I never sold it !

At the Weak Signals Toledo R/C Show way back when they were new, we ran them with two 7.2V hump packs parallel to give them a little extra zip.

Man I kick my ass everyday for not keeping mine back in the 80s! I had that one, and the bruiser. If I knew then what I know now! I definetly would have kept them. They're worth a fortune now! Beautiful truck! And the grand daddy of what the hobby is today!

Great video, remember my cousin had a blazing blazer then a Bruiser, which I bought off him. Recently bought a mountain rider. The Hilux was the one kicked it all off. Happy I grew up in the eighties to experience RC first time round & now loving it all again. 😀

Even though this video is a few years old, I would like to mention, that a modeler (in Austria I guess) tried to drive his Tamiya Hilux Pickup up to the Großglockner and the Großvenediger. He didn't make it to the top due to heavy snow, but he came quite far. As I remember he was accompanied by a camera team. And yes, Shodog is a legend!

awesome video, i just recently picked up a black hilux complete for $700 new zealand dollar so its about ($400 ) us dollar, ticked that one off the bucket list and going to upgrade ther esc, controller etc, repaint it as original decals are near impossible to find these days and if you do they cost way to much, but i do love that colour

It's true, you do learn something new every day. I had no idea the first generation Hilux used solid chassis rails. I'd always thought that all of the three speeds had pressed steel 'C' section parts. Cheers guys for a very informative vid🙂👍🏻 Truck looks amazing too by the way. The colour really suits and she's a credit to Mr Shodog😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Incidentally, regarding the issue with sourcing tires. There is a company selling reproduction tires for the Blazer and the Hilux on eBay. I purchased a set of each last year and they look excellent.👍🏻

Yes I also had no idea that they were such differences between this one here and the subsequent models. Thank you for the information on the tires, I had heard of that in the past but never really did any searching

My pleasure Sir🙂👍🏻 Incidentally, I had also not realised that the earlier 3 speed cars had 540 motors. I thought they all had the larger 750 motors like the first gen Bruiser. I suppose that must make the first Bruiser unique as the re-re utilises a 540 again. It must be quite hard to come by appropriate replacement motors for 1985 Bruisers🤔

@@johnjosey5184 lol, I was sure that was with the Bruiser, but I realised they used them on the recreation of the video with a Tacoma done up as the Bruiser & the originals were [you were correct] HILux's. If I have time to look for them, I have both the original video and the remake for the Tacoma.

@@ss9c1 When i first read your comment my first thought was - ah, they did it with the bruiser as well. Thats the first time i have seen that video, i only knew it was done from a picture (from that video) that is in the 1983 Tamiya guide book. As a 12-13 yr old something like that is a big deal which stays with you for life. I think we have both learned something from a single comment. Thank you for your reply 👍

One comment on "licensing"... BACK in the 70's - 80's, THERE WAS NO SUCH THING in Models! The Companies USED to be flattered by the reproductions, because it was FREE ADVERTISING! The late 90'S changed that... 😖

Que hermoso ejemplar quedan muy pocos en ese estado original que temible vehiculo es super caro y piezas dificiles de encontrar yo tengo 50 autos clasicos rc y se gasta mucha plata repararlos pero vale la pena yo los conduzco poco para que duren mas años es repararlos lo que me apasiona la gente que no sabe de estas cosas mejor que se compre un cochesito moderno y se ahorre todos los dolores de cabeza en reparacion

Awesome truck, I never had one of those in the day, they were still too expensive for me, even then. I think did get the rough rider and sand scorcher. Wish I still had them. I had to buy the hg p406 is it, the toyato clone lol. I love that to bits. I have it painted in the hog heaven colours and decals, it looks amazing, if I say so meself lol another enjoyable video man.😀😀👍

Dennis Dempsey did a video on the differences in the Hilux,Bruizer, and HG versions of the tranny's. I have a TF2 lwb that weighs over 9lbs., but it has full interior,steel roll cage (interior) , steel roll bar in the bed,steel wheels, oversized tires,hitch mount,hitch,sound unit, aluminum front light bar, and I'm sure I left something out!

But the weight difference to newer crawlers is what makes the heavier truck's motion and handling, more realistic. Likewise, some crawlers have unrealistic abilities due to their under-scale weight.

Very true. It is unfortunate that the suspension is awful and almost non-existent. That's why the truck is so bouncy in all the Tamiya promotional videos.

@@AMPROEngineering Yep, I put better shocks on the rear of my Bruiser and that helps with traction, but I need to do the same with the front. I just got a new P407 transmission for it though; something I've been waiting for for 25 years now, for so I've been having some fun driving that again. Cheers!

Hi guys interesting video -I’m in the uk and I’ve believe it or not been gifted one of these by a gent I work for . I’m not a r c guy and I’ve been looking into valuing it it’s in good nick and sadly missing a mirror , tyres perished and one tab missing on body . Apart from that it’s complete with manual and controller . It’s been stored for donkeys years but he said it was a runner when he stored it. What’s it actually worth in 2024 ? Ball park figure would be a great help many thanks j

Hard to say with this market. If the body is solid, $750 to a $1000. I have seen more in certain cases.

For us "poor boys" would it be a possibility to convert a HG P407 "Bruiser Clone" to a fake-make shift 3-Speed / Hilux / Blazer?

Theoretically but the big problem is the axles. Those are not going to work for this application so the best bet is to start with the RC4WD trail finder 2. It is more to start off with but infinitely cheaper to make it look like this as all you need to do is get a bed and flip the axles
