In Episode 25 of Restoring Christine, we rebuild a factory trunk lid by welding in a new inner structure panel, replace a section of the outer skin, and reestablish proper body gaps all the way around!
Long, but worth it! Thanks for watching!

You don’t know how much I appreciate all your videos! I have a 57 that has pretty much all the same issues and it’s been such a blessing to see someone else tackling these areas and SHOWING how to do it. I don’t want a show car, I just want a good driver quality that’s solid again.

Thanks for the confidence! And I agree... No trailer queens needed!

Nice! I'm trying to put references in each video to connect the dots for the next lost soul that is trying to find their way through the rusted wasteland!

Thanks! Episodes 76, 77 & 78 (just released this week) cover the body fill work on the trunk lid area, which dresses this repair.

And I went back and watched this one again. Working on my trunk. Different issues than yours, but some good pointers here!

Great job man this is what I do when doing Trifive trunks where the latch hole is in the lower middle I split the Inner repair panel into 2 halve I do this for two reasons number 1 it keeps the lower trunk area from warping as much as it would if you cut out the whole section !because it’s a much smaller area and for the exact reason you did ! U had to slice and dice that panel to make it fit ! I do likewise with the outer skin as you did in two sections that part number you showed #TF 400656 is a CARSINC item Other venders sell them I personal think it’s a Sherman made panel !! Great job !! Keep it up !! Oh you mentioned fitzee I’m on his Facebook channel as fiano guzzo cheer mate !!

I think you're right about Cars Inc and Sherman! I was surprised that Real Deal Steel didn't offer it. That's where I got the door bottoms from, and they're likely from the same manufacturer! And I've found that welding ANYTHING in the flat just wants to warp. I can weld corners all day long and never displace a thing!

@@RestoringChristine1956 when I do parts like door bottom and trunks extra I walk away after a few tacks come back after it’s cool I don’t even use air it’s just to temping to weld more just my two cent !! Good job though !!

The good about cutting open structures is the opportunity to fill with p.o.r.15

I've never used POR 15, but I have used a few different products that are similar. I plan on bathing the entire inner wells with something good!

Thats a nice piece to get. Helps a lot the restoration. Imagine having to fabricate that...

I am wondering if that would translate to the 58 now. Cause you think yours was bad... ;) And your videos haven't been too long in my book. as long as you are dealing out the show, it's good watching. we are kind of a niche market.

I see some of these guys cranking out both shorter and much longer videos and I scratch my head to either one. I guess I just need to keep mine focused and not speed through too much but also not blab on without adding value. Glad you're liking them!

Cars Inc stamps out some steel for the TriFives. They are honest and will tell you the gauges of the steel (all factory thickness) and if they are the ones stamping out the pieces. Their complete floors are beautiful. I will be using them for all my sheet metal needs. Danchuk is no more.

I just discovered that Danchuk stopped retail sales a month or 2 ago. I believe they're just going to be in the wholesale market, but who knows what happens to the parts that were supposedly their manufacturing.

Bill another great video, I really like seeing Christine come along. I do have one question you mentioned in this video about your restoration of your Cutlass you drove in the videos about Cruising the Coast is there a way I could find those videos to watch? Thanks!!!

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have any RU-vid documentation of the Cutlass restoration, but I did have a Facebook page for it from start to finish. There are a few vids there: facebook.com/pg/Dream-On-71-Cutlass-Convertible-Restoration-548539778563692

@@RestoringChristine1956 Bill thanks I liked the Facebook page for the Cutlass to look at all the photos and videos you have on the Cutlass. Besides starting work on my 56 Chevy I also have a 1975 Cutlass not as cool as yours but I hope someday to maybe acquire a 70-72 Cutlass convertible. Thanks again.

It came out good for welding a panel that has forming stress stamped in it....no such thing as a flat panel...always have to mess with the aftermarket panels...would of been a hard one to make yourself...no buying another deck off the rack and having it fit but thats restoration work....keep up the good work
@RestoringChristine1956
@RestoringChristine1956 2 года назад
You raise a pretty good point. There is definitely a lot of residual stress in any formed panel that will likely try to move in the absolute wrong direction! Appreciate the compliment!
