Me and my brother got these for Christmas one year. I will never forget my fasttrax. Mine was the 90s body and my bros was the truck. Im still lovin the rc hobby today👍
I had the blue 4×4 offroader back in 86 or 87. Today Im waiting on a 1/24 rc crawler from banggoods. Those rcs and probably the awesome commercials got so many kids into the hobby.
I found one at a thrift store a few years ago, (black and pink Hardbody, my favorite scheme) the transmission housing is cracked on one side. The gears are fine and it drives, I drove it in the snow one year, it's a trooper. The electronics didn't work, so I transplanted electronics from a "wrecked" Scorcher and I just use the Scorcher's remote. The Scorcher was my first 9.6V Tyco, Christmas of 93, at least part of it lives in the Fast Traxx.
I had a few versions of the Bandit, but I was always interested in this vehicle. My buddy had a few... I so appreciate this nostalgic video man. Thank you for your uploads bro
They work with two 370 Mabuchi motors. Thanks to your video I decided to look for one of the space ship version one year ago and eventually I found one in really good shape for a reasonable price. Thanks man!!!
Always wanted one when I was a kid I just got a Road Shredder by Nikko unfortunately do not have a remote control for it but I do have a tyco fast track that I’m hoping for it to work with it Awesome videos like always
Childhood memories right here. I had the Nikko Fast Traxx with the aerodynamic spaceship buggy body. Absolutely a blast when it was snowing where I was in Japan. The other Nikko I had was the Alligator (I think) that was an amphibious one. Blue truck with a hull chassis and a shrouded prop.
I've got the fluorescent green one also. Unfortunately it has a common problem for these vehicles. The transmission housing is cracked on both sides right where the Tapered part of the housing meets the transmission case. It would be really cool if you designed a 3d printed transmission case/axle assembly for shapeways.
Ah, the nostalgia. My brother and I started our love of the rc hobby with the Fast Traxx. We also ended up owning (breaking) the Bandit, Eliminator, and Hammer during a 3-4 year period. How did we get to own all of those different models? Well we'd bash them until something broke, then we'd return them to Walmart to trade for a different model. What? We were poor back then ;)
Mabachi 380 motors. Super ft has somewhat suspension in the from 2 little pins with springs. Mam I wish you were my neighbor lol hard to come by people like us who love these things
About compatibility with Bandit bodies - it depends. 1st gen Bandits - pre-date the FT and do NOT have the FT rear body mounts or the LED hole in the bed. 2nd gen - Direct swap. Rear FT mounts go unused on the Bandit but they're there. The LED bed hole is also there and simply covered with a plastic sticker that can be punched out from the bottom. (It can take substantial force but it's just a sticker). 3rd gens - Also have the rear FT mounts which go unused but the LED hole is molded shut. Its location is however marked and would mount directly if the hole was drilled out. Hope this helps!
I’m looking to get back into RC cars. I had the neon fast traxx. Couldn’t keep up with my cousin who had a bandit but the fast traxx could go over any terrain.
Hi there, I haven’t had the pleasure of a video from you for a while, I’ve missed them, cause I like them lol 😂. They are quite nippy for what they are, and they look like they are tricky to control, especially at high speed. Nice video man. 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧
I had the red "buggie" style in the early 90s. Trying to find one for my son's upcoming 7th birthday that we can restore and upgrade together. LiPo battery, brushless motors, restore and beef up the plastic at the common breaking points and of course extensive cleanup.
Oh very nice! My only suggestion is to leave the stock motors running at the original or lower voltage. The gearboxes cannot withstand more power, they will grenade.
These are pretty cool I had a radio shack wild cougar when I was a kid they are similar but with a knock off black foot body. I'm currently gathering parts for a hobby grade upgrade possibly brushless power 😎
One the best ole rcs around coolest ride if you had one as a child or teenager then you was really all you needed if you didn't really have friends played mine everyday till the battery have be charged then ready go again
I run my stock fast traxx on a 3s lipo and it does 19.8 mph. And I have one I modified with brushless motors and it does 34.1 mph with 2s lipo still have 3s testing to do but 50 mph is looking good.
Hi my friend. Cool little things. I like them. Grasshopper-Tanks 😅🙂 The end of the silver age ... Ugh. Reminds me: Did we talk about the yellow Turbo Panther’s rarity once? Have you seen one?
I always thought the Hi-Jacker was the beginning of the end, it was the last of the " Hopper" chassis cars. Next came the Mutator, the last 9.6V I believe. Then everything after became 6.0 jet turbo... I found a Mutator for a few bucks about 8 years ago, it's actually not bad. It's built like a tank.
I had one of these as a kid..If someone made one today hobby grade with a lipo battery, brushless motors and maybe some sort of kevlar/rubber tracks for a bit more speed ;) , I would buy it instantly...
I have a couple fast traxx motors with pinions sitting around I got out of a yellow fast traxx buggy with a bad transmission. Looks to be normal Mabuchi 360 motors. I’ll keep them around in case I got another tuck truck with a bad motor.
My old neighbor told me to come over and look at some rc he had as a kid cuz he kept them all and he had one them it was brand new. And he gave me a Radio shake van that i had as a kid before i got my king cab. Its was the green jungle van and that was like new.
Nice to see a video again from you. Any plans for more modified Tamiya videos? Oh, I wonder why this video has so low resolutions? 360 is the highest available for me... Cheers from Norway :-)
Any plans on checking out the tokyo marui ninja ? Perhaps designing some 3d printed parts for that would help people put them together a bit easier again as they are great looking buggies but unfortunately a bit fragile, specially with age, its a buggy from 1987 & 4wd.
I just came in possession of a Mini traxx pickup. Model number 2342-49. Brand new in box and I'm hearing it could be a prototype. Idk how else to find more info on it. It's got an black eliminator body and pink wheels pink lower chassis. There's a sticker that reads "1st production 9-20-93 sample sent to portland" help! Lol
Do you know Taiyo from Japan was version very vintage same Tyco become Taiyo all R/C very quality very cheap too also had Tyco Slot Racing in Japan have different version
Super fast traxx is 1/10th scale, and I good bit bigger and faster. The transmission is far more robust, no stripping the high/low gear. Being bigger it wasn’t as peppy off the line as the 9.6v, but that probably helped save its gears from stripping too I have a picture of you want to see a size difference
@@chadsummy2336 thanks. Yeah love to see a pic. Haven't seen any videos on it either which would be interesting. Wouldn't 7.2v be slower? I don't know much about electronics but remember the 6.0v jet turbo cars being much slower than the 9.6v ones
new bright makes an rc similar to this now. it definitely looks cheap and won't have that nice quality feel, but aside from ever so slightly less top speed, it looks pretty similar performance wise. might even be able to fit a Fast Traxx body on it so you don't have to be so worried about breaking it. Mr.Random Reviews made a video about it if you wanna take a look ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ve1QBnzT2tI.html
I remember I had a Tyco turbo hopper and what I noticed with the tyco turbo hopper and the other RC’s after it, the 49mhz variant of each model had the turbo feature. The 27mhz on the other hand didn’t. Why was that I don’t know why Tyco didn’t add the turbo to the 27mhz version. So I’m sure if you had the 49mhz version of the fast traxx I’m sure it will have the turbo feature. My friend had the 27mhz of the turbo hopper also the turbo aero hopper and it didn’t have the turbo feature. So technically, the 49mhz version was faster. I know the 49mhz version of the turbo hopper and the turbo aero hopper was faster. My friends had both the 27mhz and 49mhz and the 49mhz was faster. My 49mhz turbo hopper was faster than my friends 27mhz red turbo hopper.😂
I have both Fast Traxxes and neither have the separate turbo function. Well technically they ONLY have the turbo feature as the vehicles without conventional steering and the boats are always in turbo. I also have a few 27 mhz Hoppers and all have turbo but I did find a 27 mhz Hopper remote that does not have it.
Dude? Why is nobody explaining anywhere what everything means? When you are new to the hobby you got no clue what "9 turns or 16 turns" means.. And I don't even know if I can use an old vintage motor and how i make sure the gear on the motor fits to my gear box? And how I find out how to fit it? Especially when going from a 380 to 540 motor.... So when buying and restoring an old vintage car and trying to fit a new motor, you got nobody on youtube explaining all this stuff. At least I have not found anyone! What size of Servo do you need? How many kg does it need to pull? So I don't know WHAT to buy? You are not making me any wiser! All you talk about is how good a motor runs etc. But you never explain how you fit it and how you found the right gear for it and about the technical specs and what it means? So how do you expect new people in the hobby when nobody explains them "how to do"? You think everyone is an expert on RC-cars and Electrical components and Gears and know exactly what you mean? HOW do you find all these parts? How do you decide? and WHERE do you find information on it?
Google answers the question about turns, Almost every rc car ever made in 10th scale uses Standart size Servo, Every Tamiya equipped with the 380 adapter plate can use a 540 (Grasshopper for example) Information can be found on the internet
Hmmm, I think you are right. I will need to make a "Basics" video for sure. I guess I assume a lot in my videos. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
