Some great memories. First "kit" level car I ever saw was my neighbor's Hornet. Within a month I got a Grasshopper. Realized it was slower than his and got a 540 "Endurance" tuned motor. Then he got a 540 "Sprint" motor...and the hop ups and quest for more speed hasn't stopped since. LOL But it all started right here. Thanks for posting this.
My first Tamiya rc set was The Hornet, way back in early 1984, I was 14. Then later in that year i bought the Wild One. Had a great time with those RC Buggies, those were the best days. Now I'm 52
Great video. Tamiya Brings back great memories from being a teenager. I saved and saved and ended up with 3 Tamiya RC buggies with my parents help. I had The Frog, Wild Willy Jeep and the Boomerang. I preferred the Boomerang as if recall, was 4X4 and also seemed quicker. I made my Father laugh once as just before going to school one day I put The Boomerang under an empty box with Ariel sticking out. Bin Men/Garbage Men came to throw rubbish in the wagon. One came for the box as I watched from a window in my house, he got closer. When about to pick it up, it shot off up the street at speed. It frightened the life out of him. LOL!!!!! I would love to get another and do a review on it as now an adult.
I had the tamiya Manta ray for my first proper rc car - later i had a schumacher cougar 2 works , which was awesome - wish id never sold them and still had them now!

Hornet frog grasshopper black foot clodbuster lunchbox I had quite a few! Still have.my all original clod and a vintage frog never opened!! Might go to an Rc auction someday
Great childhood recap of what was on the shelf at the hobby shop in UK!! I did build & "Thrash" a few of those in there! where's the Bigwig man!!? Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up!
I had the Tamiya Nissan king cab , with a Futaba remote control. I loved that truck. My uncle had it for about a year then he sold it to me when I was 12. My mom ended up giving it away, how I miss that truck ;(
I still have an original Sand Scorcher, Frog & Kyosho Scorpion. They all need to be restored though. Sand Scorcher has lots of parts missing. Have such fond memories of my rc cars & bmx's.
Sorry but the best part of those old promotional videos is the voice over guy talking about the cars like he never read the scripts before. His delivery is amazing.
Back in the days of mechanical speed controllers and having to yell out your frequency number or color. I have just started to collect some of these NOS Tamiya unbuilt kits and parts. I could not afford some of these back then and I canʻt afford these today! I have always enjoyed Tamiya quaility and variety.
It kinda upsets me that they put a stupid little 380 in the grasshopper which I think behind the hotshot is one of the best looking buggies Tamiya made . At the time.
Just buy 5200mah or similar Nimh 7.2v pack for longest run times & nothing more powerful than a brushed 15-turn 540 motor. Hell, these cars are so light & nimble a well cleaned Chinese el crappo motor should give a decent service life.
Auto Scotty here is the link...sorry about the delay.... the video had a bunch of footage of various tamiya RCs... the King Cab footage is about 9 minutes in.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b-qHQLfQJ1g.html
