Nintendo announces the new Nintendo 3DS during its E3 Press Event. Better Graphics and a 3.5 inch 3D screen promises a better portable gaming experience Filmed by GamesAbyss
+FORTHELOLZ003 So without name calling and all that, I believe what f89ry7 Genaro Rivera meant was it did fail at first. Which it did. Iwata and his executives took the pay cut because of the 3DS because the launch was so bad. Overall it is a massive success and is still trucking along very well. What f89ry failed to explain was the time and period that it failed at, and made it sound like it was a failure altogether, which it wasn't. /endthread
Kaptaindo Honestly as someone who is fairly new to Nintendo, it's been a blast to finally buy their consoles. I bought a Wii U in october and Played Bayonetta for the first time, and DKC,LOZ,and Metroid for the first time on Wii U this december. Then I got a 3ds in late February, and played Fire Emblem,Monster Hunter, Majora's Mask, and more for the first time! it's amazing!
The Angry Little Alchemist Ah, so you're a first-timer? You've owned no Nintendo system before? Welcome, my friend! What we lack in hardware, we make up in awesome games~!
Kaptaindo not really. The gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, ds, and even the psp, sold way way more. It sold kinda badly for a nintendo handheld.
darkool 606060 80 million is bad now? It did about the almost the same as the gameboy advance. DS and wii raised the sales expectations for everything. Switch is already at 35 million after 2 years.
When you think about it, 3D without the glasses is a remarkable technological achievement. And to think Nintendo, a video game company, was the 1st to make that possible. I'm still waiting for that day where glasses-free 3D is more widespread, especially in movie theatres. I don't like putting glasses over glasses. :/
BlazingWarwolf That's because the 3DS' top screen is designed for a single person to view it. You know how if you tilt your head slightly, the image becomes distorted? This was fixed with the New 3DS, but it still can only face track one person. In a movie theater, there might be 100 people present, and if the same glasses-free technology is placed on that screen, then only one or two people might be able to see the 3D effect, while the others get distorted images. Technology still hasn't figured out how to produce a glasses-free 3D effect for more than one person sitting at different angles from the screen.
BlazingWarwolf From what I hear, there are multiple companies trying to work on it, as in-home 3D is limited by those glasses. There have been some prototypes, but nothing in the market yet. Here's hoping!
i remember when the 3DS was announced. i thought it was the most amazing shit to have ever come to gaming. and when i bought it and experienced it first hand, i was correct.
I never got the gimmick reference. when you go see a 3D movie you don't expect something more than the 2D movie with another dimension, and that's what you get from the 3DS
Man seeing Satoru Iwata really hits hard, he was such a genuine person who put in so much effort into his work and is just overall such a great person. Rest in peace Satoru Iwata you will be missed.
Pikmin shorts are available for purchase. Right out of the gate, there was poor reception to 3DS video downloads. They tried movie trailers (Green Lantern comes to mine), but few accessed them due to SD card restraints and a small install base. Streaming simply makes more sense for the 3DS, but I agree, it would be nice to see more 3D content.
Yea, its kinda funny that they mentioned "Hollywood" on screen. It was cool when the 3DS first came out having apps like Swapnote and Nintendo Video. It was cool to watch short episodes of cartoons, music videos, and game trailers right from that app. I loved that it downloaded the movies from wifi in sleep mode and then you could watch them on the go without needing an internet connection. For some reason they cancelled the service for that app. Its a shame because I enjoyed it when it was new. After a while the quality of the content just got worse but there was potential there. I would love to get my Nintendo Directs through an app like that.
I'd say the problem is worse with Wii U. Many people are aware that the 3DS is an upgrade from the DS, you can tell simply by the games graphics it's way beyond the DS. People think the Wii U is a weird controller for the Wii.
I completely agree with you. The 3D technology in this handheld console is very unique, so using video game emulation just doesn't give you that amazing experience. I also hope that one day the 3DS will make a huge comeback one day in the future.
Ratus Ey without Wii U, there's no Switch. But you could tell him to use Adults in the ads, or commercials. And make sure it isn't mistaken for a controller for the Wii.
I remember making silly recordings with my little sister, brother, and older sister in 2016 or 2017. When we got our hands on it, we were addicted to the 3DS for all of 2017!
The Awkward Drashig cuz they are expensive, unecessary cringefests these days. Nintendo Direct is short, simple and straight to the point without all the stupid buzz and hypewords. Plus they can add their unique Nintendo touches like in 2015 when they did claymation or in 2016 when they did the entire direct as a puppet show. Those are 10x more entertaining than some corporate shill going up on stage and spewing out lies.
Here's a man in his 30s who remembers this launch but never got to experience any of this as having something like this for me on my 20s was IMPOSSIBLE. I just blocked everything around things I couldn't get and got by with the things I could, which were still pretty decent. It's weird to explain how it feels being nostalgic about something you totally missed, but it is not a good feeling. Hope tech and gaming gets back to be as exciting as it was in 2000s and early 2010s. This hurts...
This was one of the more confusing shows. The entire time I was like "how are they gonna do it? This doesn't make sense". They should have just said at the jump, it displays it a certain way depending how you look at it and this whole thing would have been alot more inspiring.
ComputerDude2600 The Western version of the NES didn't have any 3D peripherals. Only the Famicom (the Japanese version) had 3D glasses, which only a few games supported them.
LanCeeXD No lol, the nes didn't have any peripherals because it didn't need any, on a couple of games such as rad racer, you could press select and it would go into 3d mode, and if you have 3d glasses you could view it. I would know, I currently own an nes with the 3d glasses for rad racer lol. The western version, not the famicom.
@technoguy720 have you realized that Sony sort of have something against Nintendo and are always trying to prove themselves but Nintendo just go there own way
I remember getting a red 3DS XL on christmas 2013. I was set until I got a Wii U 2 years later. I loved the connection between tye 3DS and Wii U. Now we have the Switch, and soon to come out the Switch Mini
9 years later, i still have mine and I don’t regret at all, it’s like my little treasure and I take it everywhere, mine has a manufacture assembly date of 02/06/2011
