E30 ITB Install Part 6: Finally On and Running

This is the video. My BMW E30 is finally running with the ITBs installed and carbon fiber plenum on. Had to fix another issue of missing o-rings and resync the throttles, but now everything is on and good to go. Stick around for a bunch of sounds clips at different stages of install.

Since I had a lot of issues on Megasquirt PNP I am going to Be using the Haltech Elite 2500, Nuke fuel rail and a 911 brake booster. Looks good. You need to have the idle control valve? You have to drill the backing plate? Did you notice much more response when you drive it. On Rev Tech a user was able to use the DINAN E36 Air filer on the end of the Carbon Fiber ITBS...

I had it without the ICV for a little bit so maybe not 100% crucial. The idling characteristics did change with it plugged in and plumbed up. Hopefully it will help with response but I don't know yet.

So does the idle control valve just pull air from the engine bay? I'm installing mine right now and I'm not using the plenum so I'm not sure where to route the icv

Not sure if it’s recommended but I did run without before I put the plenum on. Left the wire unplugged and put a cap on the port on the distribution block. I’m using Megasquirt ecu so that might have helped me out not having the icv.

I'm not the best source but read up and go slow. The MS tuner studio has an autotune feature that I've used after getting the base tune set. I think it helps but eventually I plan to go to a dyno shop for final adjustments.

@@garagespec9330 there is a write ✍️ up on RV3Limited. Most people have used alpha N with Megasquirt PNP 2. There is now just released MSPro 3. I had so many issues with the Megasquirt PNP2 I purchased a Haltech Elite 2500

I just installed mine! Is there a specific number when adjusting the throttle bodies using the Vaccum tool?

I thought I had seen it listed somewhere but can’t find it right now. I adjusted everything to ~3 or 4 kg/h and it has been working well for me so far.

Not sure of the gains. I hope to get on a dyno eventually. But it has been reported to add 20-25 hp.

Nope, this engine is all stock internally.

So far so good. Still haven’t put a lot of miles on yet as I’m working on the tune. But I like it and think it can only get better from here.

what is the purpose of carbon fiber plenum? to look good?

Looks good, helps to prevent debris from falling in, and puts all the sensors on one collective air source. It's not fully necessary but is still functional.

Just wondering why do people cut the top radiator hose like the way you have it?

I have it cut because my radiator is from an m42 but I’m still using all the m20 hoses. Had to cut the top hose to shorten the middle section to fit.

The intake setup is sold by RaceHead Engineering/RHD out of Australia

I mean the vacuum manifold. And which lines exactly did you hook into it? Are you still running your idle control valve?

That was a piece that came with the kit. There are lines connecting to each throttle body runner, one to a T for the ECU pressure signal, one to the brake booster, and yes one connecting the plenum and ICV.
