Lovely. I had a 1998 E39 528i which I had for 20 years. It had 236,000 miles on the clock when I sold it. Only internal work was, typically, the rocker cover gasket. I had an Xbox in the boot and rear screens. 😀 I eventually put an android head unit in the from with Apple Carplay and that transformed it. Mine also had a Motorola handset with two SIM card readers, one in the phone “eject box” and one tucked away in the boot. The car was fantastic. Black with shadow line surrounds, angel eye upgrade and glass roof.
This is registered the day before my own 2001 Rover 75 & I recognise some of the parts bin components that got used off BMW on my 75. I keep looking at these E38’s & the E39 as an alternative modern classic wafty barge & it’s the 2.8ltr engine I’d want since performance has no interest for me, only quite comfortable progress. I’ve watched loads of videos on the E38 & the trim/colour/engine combination on this one appeals the most. I’ll subscribe so I can keep an eye on its progress.
Minor detail: hydraulic trunk doesn't work because this one doesn't have it, left trunk hinge would be different, also would have the hydraulic cylinder on it, and a hole on the chassis for the tubes (so it wasn't just removed or something). It's a fairly rare option.
Just came across this video, in regard to the bonnet not popping up, i have exactly the same car with the same problem, there is a spring steel plate on the catch near the middle of the car which is supposed to push the bonnet up, over the years it looses its spring, you can test this by just bending it upwards, bonnet will open ok, but after a while the spring plate bends down again, not sure if still available from bmw, i will probably make one myself, hope this helps
and my rear jacking points just after those rite at the back off the sill both sides all welded cost me £300 took 2 hours now has 12 months mot . my car on E38 club uk ,
I have the exact same car! Love the 6cyl. The door trims need a bit of work, some of the plastics doesn't hold up in the hot asian sun. Looking for a shop to restore the interior. It's leaking something from under the hood (checked the dip stick but engine oil level is ok) so not sure what that is, that needs to be checked as well. But otherwise absolutely love the comfort and quietness! It's a world away from even my 2018 Honda Accord.
33mpg on the motorway.. on a motorway run it should be upper 36+ or mid 40's if driven economically.. obviously much less round town. Boot lift is a rare option. They're not fast, but can pick up speed pleasantly between 25-70
