Truth? Or Fable? University of Minnesota's Raptor Center: "We have received quite a few e-mails regarding the "Eagle Rebirth" story recently. The story is quite far from what an eagle's life truly consists of, but we would be happy to share with you the natural history of the Bald Eagle. Eagles would not typically "lose" their beak or talons, unless it was the result of a traumatic injury. The talons and beak are two of the three best defining features of what makes these birds "raptors". Without the sharp talons for catching prey and the strong, sharp beak for tearing food, the raptor would certainly die of starvation. An eagle hatches with both a beak and talons and these will continue to grow throughout the bird's life. The beak and talons are composed of hard keratin and are somewhat similar to human fingernails. The talons of the eagle are not flexible as the story claims. New layers of keratin growth build onto the old layers ensuring a strong structure for the raptor. The raptor keeps the beak in good condition naturally in the wild by eating tough prey and rubbing the beak clean on stones or other hard surfaces (feaking) after eating. Eagles and other raptors generally do not pluck out their feathers. All birds, including raptors, do go through a process of losing feathers and this is called a molt. A bird's feathers do suffer regular wear and tear so, ultimately, the quality of the feather will decrease and it will need to be replaced. The feathers are not lost all at the same time. If this were true, the bird would be unprotected from natural elements and more importantly it would not be able to fly. Eagles and all other raptors need to fly in order to hunt and survive so the loss of flight would most likely mean starvation for the bird. Each feather comes from a feather follicle much like hair does on a mammal. When the feather is first emerging and developing it has a blood supply coming from the body going up into the shaft of the feather. If this feather is broken or pulled out it is not only very painful for the bird, but could result in blood loss and damage to the feather follicle. Severe damage to the feather follicle could result in the permanent loss of the follicle. If a feather is lost before a molt it could take up to a year to be replaced. Raptors and all other birds molt in a symmetrical pattern. If a primary feather is molted on the left wing, the same feather is molted simultaneously on the right wing. This can ensure balance in flight for the bird while it hunts during this molting period. The average life span of an eagle is approximately 30 years. The eagle, like many other living organisms, does not have the luxury of making the decision to extend their life cycle far beyond what is normal for its species. In captivity, an eagle may live beyond what the average life expectancy is, because it receives both regular and nutritious meals, has access to veterinary care and can be sheltered from the harsh elements by housing provided by the facility caring for the bird. Even then, the life span is in no way extended as far as this myth is suggesting. There is speculation as to the origin of this myth, but we can assure you that none of it is true." Now you know!

The original inhabitants of the USA need to be honored without their identity being lost. Alas eventually no one will know who the original inhabitants are. In my humble opinion the Original inhabitants of the land can make that decision for themselves. If they choose to call themselves Native American Indians, Its their choice, and I respect that.

"An eagle has the longest lifespan of its species." There is nothing about that sentence that makes sense. This would make a lot more sense as a parable if it was at least somewhat based in reality...

There's no reason whoever made this video couldn't have used a different, obviously fictional, story of change to make this point. The last thing I would want to do is trample on the hopes of people inspired by this video! I am convinced however that our hopes must be based on what is true vs what is not. I am encouraged enough for a lifetime by the fact that eagles molt. This story is famous if you have ever worked in direct sales, companies like Kirby. An American (I think) motivational speaker did a typical performance of this story, to try to inspire and motivate people. It's a very good metaphor for life in general and easy for anyone to understand the difficult choices and decisions in life, having to do the difficult and unpleasant things to get through and have a better day. So it's maybe not true, an exaggeration of the harshness of life, but so what? If it helps anyone find perspective, let them be, let this story be and do what it's meant to do.

A lot of people mistake this as fact. Maybe a suggestion to specify that this is in fact a legend so that people do not spread misinformation on eagles.

This is Lindsey...(on my husbands account) Brandon GreenawaltWhile while we have now learned that this eagle lifespan process is a scientifically untrue legend, it is a poetic metaphor that was used in the Bible around 2000 years ago to explain a concept that is otherwise difficult to understand. The Bible is full of poetry, parables, and metaphors--our favorite stories today are as well. To the creator of the video, you may avoid misunderstanding if the first screen explains that this story comes from a biblical metaphor that may not scientifically be factual, but is still entirely applicable. Nevertheless, the media rendition is powerful. Part of what makes us so wonderfully made is the curiosity of knowledge and discovery. I feel it adds to the wonder that we desire empirical truth(referring to what is observable) and yet we can still know there are things we can learn from or even experience which are not observed by the senses. My adopted daughter loves the book "The Red Thread" --an adoption story based on Chinese legend that a red thread connects those destined to be together. She knows there isn't an actual red thread that connected us to her, but the metaphor serves as a way for her to understand & remember that we belong to each other. I hope this example helps clear up misunderstanding about this video and the use of metaphors in the Bible. May we all continue to seek truth based on both what is seen as well as what is unseen. 💗
@@jenjean70 The Bible does not mention the eagle going through a rebirth process. In Isa. 40:31 it simply says that those who go through a time of spiritual and emotional weariness will receive renewed strength when they spend time with God, so that they will soar like an eagle. Not meant to be taken literally. In fact, the verse moves from soaring to running to walking. Meaning that our life is a daily walk of faith in God, even when it's just the daily grind.
This is a myth; eagles cannot survive without beaks and talons, since they are essential for catching prey. These parts are made of keratin, the same material as human fingernails, and while they do continue to grow throughout a bird's life, they are not shed and regrown.

Reading the comments the inaccurate information about the Bald Eagle. I give you that. However, the message is true. We as human beings do have the power to change or die spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Need to find truthful analogies about animals.
This story was debunked by Snopes and other fact checking organizations. The metaphor is still an interesting way to consider the human midlife transformation, but just as eagles don't grow entirely new beaks and talons, we do not have to discard what was good and useful from our youth to enjoy rebirth and renewal in midlife.
At very least, they could've led with, "Once upon a time, long ago and far away, there was a magical eagle..." to make the allegory a little more allegorical. As opposed to this, which only makes me imagine someone going at an old eagle with pliers and wire cutters, saying, "I'm helping it live longer! I saw a thing on RU-vid!"

Glad it made you feel good but none of it is true. The beak is literally part of the skull. Yes it is coated with Keratin but the whole beak can’t regrow. It’s a big fat lie of a story made up by someone to use as an “inspirational” fable.
I was 8 when I first heard this story. I am 30 now and these motivational speakers still spread this. It's not true. Don't fall for this. Also, I don't listen to motivational speakers, just had some time to waste so, copy pasting the same comment on every eagle "rebirth" video I find on youtube. Do some research,guys!
My friend thought that this video was factual. RU-vid, in such a time plagued by fake news, I wish that you would also fact check videos like these. She screamed to over a dozen people, "AN EAGLE MUST UNDERGO A TORTIOUS PROCESS" after seeing this video. Now she must live with that core memory. RU-vid, do better.
This is false, Accepted. But, when most do not do anything, let us appreciate somebody doing something. This is a Good Creative Story which can help the frustrated, to come back in life with a big change. This can help to Think Big in life by enduring the hardships, and to keep up steadfast perseverance, while working towards accomplishing Success.
I'm no ornithologist and when I first heared about this "eagle rebirth" stuff I started to have my doubts (consider somebody told it not in the context of being a story but as something that actually happens for real) then I asked myself the same question. I guess it's still a nice "rebirth" tale but in all this years I've seen a lot of people claiming this to be true when it's obviously not. This only shows how much stuff people read somewhere and they inmediately believe/misunderstand as true fact.
How unfortunate. I almost used this in preparing my sermon to find out that this isn't true. and the whole time I was looking for real footage of the eagle actually doing this. I found nothing.

It's actually pretty stupid and self contradictory. If an eagle has to pluck its feathers out and destroy its beak and talons to replace the old ones it would die of starvation. An eagle without beak, feathers and talons cannot eat or drink anything.
Give me a break. None of this is even logical. Birds molt feathers every year, beaks and talons are like finger and toenails, constantly growing and wearing down. How gullible to believe any of this is true.

Here's something different, a video on eagles. They are incredibly intelligent birds, they know when they have reached exactly 40 years old, they know that if they now make the right (but tough) decisions, they can live another 30 years!. They break off their own beaks and talons , and also pull their own feathers out, any one of which will ensure the bird starves to death in short order, as it can no longer catch or eat it's prey! :-)

Lie to people in order to inspire them? Not a good mentality. The only true way for us to experience rebirth is through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ask Him to give you new birth and He will lead you to it. Jesus said "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6) You can have a new life through Him. Jesus also said, " I came so that you can have life and have it abundantly". (John 10:10)
Why some people are so resistance against fact ? This is a nature rule and yes it's true ❤❤❤ such a tough decision but for sure needed. I am not surprised to read some weird comments, again those are people who decide to ignore or resist when it comes to make tough decision. My suggestion is, the researchers have to record their age and after their age reach 40 years, catch them and help to cut out their beak, claws and feathers, government pay them and they must doing that...
My comment is symbolic in the sense of a feeling of rebirth only. I hope that is clear. I let go of both my Father and Mother at exactly the age of 40 years on my birthday. I feel like I experienced a rebirth at the age of 40 years like the Eagle. This is where the symbolism ends. Make no mistake, there is nothing symbolic about the rest of my comment. I am already a fearless warrior, I face challenges and obstacles head on. I will not back down from a lion that tries to harm me, I will face a lion head on and fight. I am not a coward or a bully, I am nothing like the Eagle that swoops in and grasp its prey. An eagle that mistakes me for weakness will realize my strength A lion that uses fear tactics to instill fear will find out I am a storm, my thunder, winds and direction resonates more than the roar of a lion. Despite this amazing story of rebirth and renovations i always thought to myself, how could an eagle resist so much time without eating?! bears overwinter every year but they are big and accumulate a big ammount of fat in their bodies before that.
