my best friend used to sing this a lot when we studied our modules before our exams. then we’d go to the emergency room to assist our consultants despite the raging COVID cases. she was under therapy for depression, and i was also close to the point of succumbing to it because of how heart-wrenching it was to have numerous patients pass away under our watch. there were kids who were much younger than us and elderly people who were older than our grandparents. we felt so helpless, even as doctors-in-training, to do everything we could-none stop 36 hour shifts, skipping dinner, and avoid meeting our families physically bec it was too dangerous-but it’s still not enough. she passed away two weeks ago, due to the same disease that took the lives of our patients. she was only 26.. just two years older than i am. i could remember her sad face before breathing her last in the same emergency room we sacrificed our lives for. i remember her mother telling me to take care of myself. i remember my own parents begging me to quit my duties as a medical intern and just stay at home. some of her antidepressants are still in the locker we shared, i can’t bear throwing them out yet. i still couldn’t begin to erase what’s left of her existence, even though her boyfriend’s starting to accept her passing. but i cant. losing friends who’s been w/ u through thick and thin really hit different. it’s like an actual family member leaving me forever. i feel so alone in the locker room as i’m typing this, even though i’m in the middle of my 30-minute break before going to the emergency room again, because my partner isn’t beside me anymore. but i have to be tough and fight for the both of us, you know? thank you jae. you may not know this but you helped ease our pain, even though we’re from completely different sides of the planet. i know that you have your own share of troubles too. i may not know you personally but i hope that whatever you’re going through.. you’re not alone. there are people who genuinely love and care for you. there are people who will always be gentle and patient with you while you figure yourself, as human and imperfect as you are growing into the person you want to become. and not just jae, but anyone who reads this comment. you’re here, existing, breathing, and alive. you are important and your heart is precious, we love having you here. stay with us, we can get through this in our little ways. i shouldn’t be sharing this on such a public setting, and this will probably just be lost in a sea of beautiful stories from all kinds of people, but it tugged my heart strings so much that i felt like my best friend’s telling me that it’s going to be alright, someday. the pain will lessen with time, and we will see each other again. maxine, wherever you are, thank you. thanks for putting this song on my playlist. miss you, sis.

Ever since self isolation began, i have been having many suicidal thoughts, specially at night. The moment i began listening to this, was able to just forget about everything for 2 minutes and appreciate the work Jae has released once again. The songs he's been releasing have helped to cope with so much pain, that a simple thank you isn't enough.

This song makes me feel so terribly sad but peaceful and calm. I clicked on this song expecting to read my book while I was listening. As soon as Jae started singing he actually took my breath away and I just sat entranced. I'm not sure how to describe this feeling but I only get it when I listen to certain songs. The lyrics make me think about my future. I had felt so sad and empty that I wouldn't move for days only go to school and the sleep when I got home. This makes me think about my future self. "Am I going to be stuck again? Will I make it out of that place? Will someone be there for me?" It may sound a little selfish but it's terrifying when I'm in that place. The lyrics bring up those thoughts but I'm in a good spot right now so I feel hopeful. I think it will be okay, I'm not going to back there again. It's like my mind is telling me it will be bad again and at the same time I'll make it through. I'm so sorry that was so long for absolutely no reason. That didn't make a lot of sense but I hope you understood if you wanted to. Thanks for reading about my feelings lol.

i can clearly see why this is jae's favorite song off eaj project (so far) like the feelings it gives off; the somehow casual yet sad manner of a brokenhearted soul checking up on the one they loved the most, who's also hurting like them from breaking it up. and his /vocals/. it sounds so gentle and delicate. it makes you feel like you're pulled into the warmest embrace that you felt in your entire life. we stan the right man y'all.

I was on a call with my cousin and started screaming “bye bye bye jae posted a song” and left

tbh, I listened to this without a thought (it was right after I woke up in the early morning). didn’t know I was going to be hit with all the feels. it felt like (chicken little) Jae was asking me these things, and singing to me, and I know that I would go back to this song again and again and feel comfort and concern and love. I’ve struggled with severe depression for 7 years now and years and years of suppressing it has made all my feelings bubble over and I started thinking about ending my life or disappearing since late last year. i don’t think anyone around me truly understands the severity, nor how much I have retreated into myself and changed myself to become more of an empty shell, just existing and not really living. hell, even I think I don’t understand myself sometimes. things can still be rough, but I finally sought the mental help I needed from a psychologist. i’ve cried on my therapist’s sofa, drank tea while sobbing and did a lot of thinking and reflecting and trying. I just want everyone to know that it’s important to seek help if you need it. also that I’m cheering for all of you to become better and whole selves again :-) much love and bear hugs from a stranger behind the screen (AlSo ThX U JaE For thIS SonG) p.s. I don’t know if it’ll help, but I’ll share techniques I’ve gone through with my therapist that really helps when I am thinking of things I shouldn’t be thinking about. 1. BUTTERFLY HUG (you put your left hand on your right shoulder, right hand on left shoulder making an X across your chest. Then you tap yourself slowly like once every 4-6 seconds? And tell yourself the things you want to hear or say to yourself. Things like “it’s okay. This feeling is not permanent” “I will get better, I can get over this” “tomorrow I am going to have more courage to face my day” things like that) 2. BOX IT (after butterfly hug, think of a box with a lock in your head. then put all your problems and your negative thoughts into it. close the box and lock it and then you should feel that your negative thoughts aren’t floating around anymore, but you know where it is, and you’ve locked it, so you can feel safe and secure enough to sleep. If the thoughts are still too loud, you can do anything to the box like putting it inside another box, wrapping tape around it, sending it to space. Anything you want, but only you will know where the box it and where the key is. I always imagined burying mine and then planting a seed on top of it. Then I watch the seed grow into a big huge tree and it makes me feel like there’s still life and beauty and something growing over negative things.) If you read this to the end, you’re a champ! :-) edit: oops I guess I'm editing this comment because I don't really want to spam all of your notifications with my many replies, but all I want to say is that I'm softened my small tiny message has brought about some form of positive or heartening emotions in all of you + anonymous likers :-) I'll put all of your sweet, sweet words to heart and know that there are human beans at different corners of the world who root for my wellbeing as much as I pray for all of yours as well. on a more serious note, I know that I am not the only one who feels like her sense of self is disintegrating and feeling never good enough for everyone and everything . there are days when I am okay with that, there are days when I feel like I'm so lost while everyone seems to be fine moving forward. the whole cycle of being better, then regressing, then feeling nothing has been tiring, I'm sure many of you can relate to it. I have accepted that sometimes even great friends and family have their own very busy lives to lead and their own problems, so much so that it takes too much of them to be burdened with my stories and problems. instead of being able to confess my darkest thoughts to those closest to me, I had to learn how to cope by myself instead. but at the very least, I have me, and that is enough. I want you reading to know this as well, that regardless of how well or unwell you are at this moment, YOU have YOU. and you come with a huge reserve of strengths and goodness that can carry you through A LOT. (but also when you feel like no one's around, I am your avid cheerleader without a face. I cheer for you and your life.) trying to understand our own selves isn't a straightforward path, it's ups and downs, lefts and rights and sometimes crazy loops, maybe all within a short period of a month. I hope that the strength and goodness within will be able to carry you forward through tough times. okay, I guess I'll end my short essay here! YOU MATTER!
