What I love about this scene is you can tell Trent has come to love Ted.

I think this last season really shows how Ted brought everyone together as a family, just like in the Xmas episode and early on Higgens says he throws a holiday party every year but usually 2 people show up, and this year everyone did.

You get another insight into this when Ted makes his joke to Trent at the end of season 2 and Trent says "My father said the same thing." They didn't go into it but I believe this indicates that Ted's personality may be similar to that of Trent's dad. Maybe in the beginning Trent noticed the negatives of that but over time is being reminded of the positives as well.

@@misterspaceman9563 Trent is also twisting the knife a bit, phrasing the question as “the dog Dani Rojas killed today” - assigning responsibility, if not blame, for Earl’s death to Dani. He’s putting Ted in a bind by doing so and he wants to see how Ted gets out of it. How does Ted exculpate Dani without assigning blame to anyone else (especially Earl)? If you think about it, this could have spawned Ted's entire life philosophy because he was a kid when that dog bit him. I played adult soccer for decades. Afterwards, our team would often BBQ and drink beer in the park as our kids played nearby. One of my favorite team mates, from Guatemala, would always put his arm around me and repeatedly say, "Football is life." And with every beer, he'd place more and more emphasis on the word "is." It was not a metaphor. Football "is" life. Joyous days I will always remember.

That's more in the directing and not saying cut too soon-making room for the little in‐between moments and allowing for the beat of mild awkwardness before or after an actual line of dialogue, kind of stranding the actor in the moment.
@Kristiekins2
@Kristiekins2 Год назад
@@zyrrhos it's both. The director definitely plays their part, but the editor can make a movie/show look completely different with clever cutting and pasting, and the editor here didn't shy away from really showing the actors' expressions and the lingering shots when they cut it all together.
@zyrrhos
@zyrrhos Год назад
@@Kristiekins2 I'm a director. The long beats were captured on set in the performances, they weren't built in by the editor, which is sometimes the case when the director has screwed themselves by saying cut too soon or hurried through a scene. It's happened to me, but you learn. Not to take anything away from editors, because a great editor is also a great writer, but this was all in camera. This is from a treatment I wrote for a TV pitch: "Tell the story in a fairly simple shot structure that gives the characters room to breathe. I think the main thing in the script is the little in‐between moments. Allowing for the beat of mild awkwardness before or after an actual line of dialogue, kind of stranding the actor in the moment." The director goes into the shoot with that in mind.

My dad lost his job a little bit before S2 came out. He worked at a church for over 15 years before being unceremoniously fired, it was a complete mess for our family to separate from that congregation and those people. We were hurt, we were tired. Our family loves Ted Lasso, and we were so excited to watch it when I came back from college. We watch this scene, everyone looks at each other, and we all just start collectively bawling. That one scene was the equivalent of a tight hug, whispering that we were going to be okay. To date, I can’t watch this without crying - thank you, Ted Lasso, for making such a simple scene so resonant with me.

Ya know, after watching both seasons twice now, I started looking at some of the other shows on Apple TV. Someone suggested Loot, about a woman who catches her husband cheating and ends up with $87B after a divorce. It's also a comedy, and also a fish out of water in a sense! It might have been just as good as Lasso, but fact is, I tuned out after watching a few episodes. It's all dumb caricatures and cliches, with no real heart at all! Wasn't sure what this show would be like, considering the premise of the ESPN commercials six or seven years ago, but my goodness - the humanity and heart this show exudes is just off the charts! There's plenty of goofy humour and silly homages to real life situations in sports, movie references, and such, but I never really expected the emotional impact pervasive throughout this series! I know they've said this Ted Lasso was planned as a 3 season storyline, and while I can't wait for season 3, I can't help but wonder if they could or should carry it on well beyond that! Absolutely the best TV show I've ever seen (and I've been around for awhile, lol)!!!!!

I said the same thing until I did it. Glad I did because truthfully, I have never had a tv show, much less a comedy, have such a profoundly positive effect on me.

These two reminds me of webtoon- Two families are arch enemies. Each family has a prodigy son. One day these young boys/men meet each other. One introduces and offers to become friends. Other say that it's not possible since their families are enemies. They can only be enemies for life. First one is happy. 2nd one asks why is he happy? He tells him that he is happy because they will have to meet and interact for their whole lives even if as enemies. That they will know each other. Same as these two- coach and reporter, together.
