Earl Palmer (1924-2008) was an American drummer and session musician who is considered one of the most influential drummers in the history of popular music. He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he began playing drums at a young age.
Palmer's career took off in the 1950s, when he became a sought-after session musician in Los Angeles. He played on many classic recordings from that era, including Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" and "Long Tall Sally," Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill," and Sam Cooke's "You Send Me," among many others.
Palmer's drumming style was characterized by its energy, creativity, and versatility. He was equally at home playing in a wide range of musical genres, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues, jazz, and pop. His use of the ride cymbal and his innovative approach to drum fills were particularly influential.
In addition to his work as a session musician, Palmer also played with various bands and ensembles throughout his career. He was a member of the Wrecking Crew, a group of studio musicians who played on many of the biggest hits of the 1960s and 1970s. He also played with jazz legends like Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, and Ella Fitzgerald.
