You can tell Tyler doesn't like to be in emotional situations by how he left when Earl started to get emotional. But I still think Earl has the potential to be the best if he tries his best.
I'm a believer in demons. But he was without a doubt in a parasitic environment that is known as the industry. The interview he did with npr he had a segment explaining how everyone in his house was blasphemous and sin riddled and in his words it was "the best kind of sinning" or something along those lines.
