Music video by Earl Thomas Conley performing Holding Her and Loving You. (C) 1983 Sony Music Entertainment #EarlThomasConley #HoldingHerandLovingYou #Vevo
I learned about Earl Thomas Conley when I saw Blake Shelton win a big award at the CMA’s and he said that he was giving it to Earl’s family because Earl did not win any of those and he was so deserving to win for his songwriting. Very gracious of Blake.
I try mightily at that query to reflect upon James Coburn at Sam Peckinpah''s (age 59) wake when the same lament passed around that he took so much with him, but "Why isn't"---Not verbatim, but it will do, this evening..."Be ever so grateful to what he left for us. It was a miracle."
Earl Thomas Conley gained his angel wings today 😪 Thank you for all your beautiful songs sir ❤ You will truly be missed. RIP EARL THOMAS CONLEY COUNTRY MUSIC ICON 😭😭😭❤
In the mid & late 80s you couldn't hardly turn on a country radio station without hearing Earl Thomas Conley, Vern Gosdin, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Restless Heart, Larry Gatlin, John Anderson, Tanya Tucker, T.Graham Brown, Conway Twitty, Johnny Lee, Charlie Daniels, Dolly Parton, The Bellamy Brothers, Don Williams, Mel McDaniels, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, George Strait, Johnny Paycheck, Ricky Van Shelton, Ronnie Milsap, T.G Shepperd, Eddy Raven, Rosanne Cash, Keith Whitley, John Conlee, Sweethearts Of The Rodeo, The Forrester Sisters, The Oakridge Boys, Eddie Rabbitt, Crystal Gayle, Highway 101, Alabama, Hank Williams Jr, Dwight Yoakam, Reba McIntyre, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Charley Pride, & Ricky Skaggs...& I could go on & on. The mid & late 80s & TNN Network & CMT was so good...this really makes me miss that era of Country Music... That's when Country Music was still Real Country Music!!! Man.. I REALLY MISS THOSE TIMES!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
Randy , don't forget that George and Merle did some of their best music in the 80's . that's when Possum did I Am What I Am and Still The Same Old Me .those two albums sent him over the no show years . also The Hag and he did their duo album then the 80's were firmly theirs . I know they are considered to be from the 60's crop though . thanx
The good news is there are some who are trying to bring this stuff back in a different way. Namely Ernest and Hardy (Flower Shops and Wait In The Truck)
I’m 46 . My dad is 77 we love music 50s 60s 70s and 80s .burned many cds for him in early 2000s .so I know his taste . Just the other day we had a cookout at my brothers house . As always I’m a dj playing my dad his songs . He asks me for a request I’m like ok dad what u wanna hear? He says early Conley . lol I’m like what my dad likes a little country but not much . I’m like earl thomas Conley ? He’s like yes . And I say holding her and loving u . He says yes that one . I’m like yes dad I’ll gladly play it . It’s a beautiful song . He retired 2 years ago 45 years as a trucker . He said he’s been hearing this song every day for the last week . Lost my mom 12 years ago . He’s a widow . They had their issues in the 80s . I guess my papa related .
TILL I READ THE REPLYES I DID NOT KNOW OF HIS PASSING ,,I HAVE ALWAYS LOVE THIS SONG & ALL HIS MUSIC ,,I FEEL SO SAD ,,WONDER WHY NO ONE AIRED OF HIS PASSING,,R,I,P E,T,C,,,,WITH CONWAY & ALL YOUR FRIENDS,,,
It’s such a painful human experience and he actually looks like he has tears in his eyes. I’ve been there. Many of us have, that’s why it’s so hard to listen to it
My experience is a little different, lost my first wife after 28 years, 3 years ago. Remarried to another remarkable woman whom I love very deeply. I've been blessed twice, but sometimes I really feel this song.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism Why would you say that? Nobody asks to be cheated on! I was saying what I said in Hope's that maybe he felt that way when he was with her or me... I didn't know till after the fact, when I did find out it broke me! This song was just a thought that maybe he felt that way
@@kimberlyshaver5015 If he lived this song, then that means he cheated on his loving wife who was always faithful and good to him. If he lived this live before and you did too, then shame on both of you, cheaters. What do you mean, why would I say that? lol. It's a song about a guy cheating on his loving wife and how it leads to heartache.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism Did you not understand that the other commenter was trying to tell you that SHE was cheated on? She wasn't the cheater! Pay attention!
@@Howiesgirl No. She may have meant to say that but she didn't. She said "You can see it in his eyes that he's lived this before.... Me too buddy!" Perhaps she isn't paying attention to the lyrics enough to know it's song about a man cheating on his wife and loving both woman, his loving wife who has always been faithful and good to him and his mistress who screws at night behind her back. If she's relating with him, she's a cheater. If she wasn't listening to what he was singing about and thought she was relating to someone who was cheated on, then of course, she's simply mistaken. How you understand her relating to the singer as being a cheating POS lol by actually misunderstanding the song lyrics is beyond me. Perhaps it's something she's trying to explain in her SECOND comment AFTER I condemned her relating to a cheater. Pay attention!
The first time I heard this song I was in the middle of a 22 year relationship with a well known married man. This was before social media and one night he brought me this CD and told me this song said exactly how he felt. He was a rock star so I don't know how he discovered a country song but after I listened to it, we held each other and cried. That was several years ago but I still cry when I hear it
I have been seeing a man for 11 years now who is living (though not married) to another woman. I really felt this song. However, I know at the end of the day, the woman they go home to is the woman they love the most, and we are fooling ourselves if we think otherwise.
@@BornFree6664 of course you're right but every story is unique. I've never regreted my time with him. I travelled the world with him and I'm a rich woman now thanks to his generosity but that doesn't mean it was easy. I finally walked away when his band was inducted into the R&RHOF and the wife insisted on going with him. But I have no regrets.
@@Robyn-mi7pl I don't regret my time with mine either, which is still ongoing. In my case I already owned my home and have a very good job in mining, so had no need for his money which I think is what attracted him to me (I certainly am not young, two years after meeting him my children have popped out 6 grandchildren 🤗). He attends all my family events, childrens weddings, 21sts, birthdays. My grandchildren know him as Nanny's friend. Also, his other partner knows about me, and my family knows also. We only get one life so we must grab our happiness when we can, and he makes me happy.
@@BornFree6664 And that's all that matters. It sounds like you've made a good life for yourself. I think you and I are the lucky ones. My married man is still my best friend. Love and happiness to you and your family.
Beautiful voice for a beautiful song! Her voice is incredible during this song. Don’t believe anyone will try to copy this song. No one will do it justice!
There is still some good country out there. The station that I listen to is in LA, and I am in NH, but the music is worth it. It is a family owned station and they play what they want.
Dang he's smooth I'm about to be 41 and I grew up on guys like him and Alabama and collin Raye and man i miss country like this . this new country is crap
It's sad. Another legend of country music has gone home. Why can't (and many, many more like his) music still be played today? I try to "feel" songs today. Nothing. Played ETC song today, and still brings chills. RIP Mr. Conley
“If she’d give me one good reason I’d be gone, but she ain’t done one thing wrong.” Might be the simplest and best lyric ever written on this topic. So relatable. I dated my high school sweetheart for 4 years. I spent the last two of those years hoping for a reason to leave. She never gave me one. I finally had the courage to end things. It broke her heart, and I didn’t want to break anyone’s heart.
Mike I...Preach On...Preach On...Preach On my Friend...Preach On. Man...I miss CMT, the 80s & early 90s country music. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MOST OF THIS TRASH BEING PLAYED ON COUNTRY MUSIC STATIONS TODAY IS EVEN CONSIDERED TO BE COUNTRY MUSIC. MOST OF THIS TRASH IS ABOUT 2,000 MILES AWAY FROM REAL COUNTRY MUSIC.
My dad would disagree with you. This was pop country too him . Music changes all the time you either change with it are don't. I enjoy the new stuff as much as the 70 80.
by all things holy.. .this song came into my life 20 years ago.. when I was 29yrs old.. .i know God gave it to me ..he knew I would have to have it to have any chance to out run heart ache and possibly worse... this song...these words. .it could not be more perfect. . it hit me square in the chest head on collision at 175 mph...cant say I'm living...i survived until last Saturday...then in a moment...God sent me a Angel. through my phone... 20 plus years later...after over a d3cade of silence...11 plus years since I've seen her golden wings...and in a moment 20 years of darkness pain begging that man in the black cape to deliver me through this needle and out of this hell I wouldn't dig myself out of... a phone call ...prayer and hope ..she brought my heart beat back and a soul cleansing cry I can't explain has me ready to do all I must...for me..for her...out of the darkness and hate...into the light and life..she holds it all in her hand.... and I won't stop ...i refuse to fail. .this woman woke a sleeping giant...she xantt possibly know how hot and fierce this fire still burns 20 plus years later.... I hope when she stands before me she's ready..i pray she's got her dark shades and she don't look directly in my eyes cuz when she appears in full view of my eyes a nuclear cloud Will erupt drom from this monster and a mountain of love is gonna burst....yes I warned her. I can't hold back...i told her on that day you will need a change of clothes...behind that mountain of love will be me of course..and when her heart touches mine.. I hope she can forgive me. next she's gonna be covered in my tears of joy and a wall of snot I can't believe my nose hasn't straight just gave up and fell off yet... .you are my everything.. .my one and only you only run into this love in a lifetime if you are lucky.. God kept me around My seether woman...8ve been reborn..lets both get ready
I can't imagine having lived life without these wonderful country songs from the great US of A. They are the high octane fuel of human feelings. The key to being able to reminisce and contemplate the wonders of life. These songs so often tell a story reaching infinitely further than the actual duration of the lyrics. The modern so-called Rap Music has indeed the opposite effect on many of us and is a sad reflection of the society from where it emanates. The song "The Older I Get" by another hero of country music, Alan Jackson, has such bearing on these feelings.
Earl felt every word of this song, you can feel the pain in his voice. Some singers will sing a song like this with a smile on their face, and it destroys it for me, you can tell they're just singing words and haven't lived the song.
Love that smile Lisa. If this is you. I have no idea why I'm writing this. Or what I should say. But maybe someday I will find out. Till that day. I can't wit to find out.
YOU JUST DONT HEAR THIS TYPE OF COUNTRY MUSIC ANY MORE I MISS THE HEART AND PASSION AND POWER THAT SINGERS LIKE EARL THOMAS AND GEORGE JONES ALL THOSE GUYS SUNG WITH RAW TALENT
This song is nothing but the honest truth. I was a young foolish man once. Traded in a CADILLAC for a Ford Pinto. I'learn a valuable lesson. I lost the Ford Pinto just as fast.
I'm a black guy and o use to work at the waffle House and this white waitress use to play this song back to back to back and she got me to start liking this song i think we both had a crush on each other we work at the waffle House in Marietta Georgia back in 85 i wish i could find her just to tell her thanks for the fun times we use to have
WOOWOOOWW. Have not heard this in 20 or more years... I swear I felt pain as soon as I heard it. The song touches those who have suffered, for he sings suffering.
Hello. How are you doing? Hope you're fine. I am Mike Collins and I'm Originally from Norway but currently live in Rochester new York city Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl.
I went through this same exact thing 52 years ago and this song just about makes me cry my eyes out every time I hear it. I've been playing it for 2 days now, just can't stop.
I dont know how people dislike this. This is pure goodness to my ears. It reminds me of my dad when we would listen to this in the barn and hang out. Good ole days when we would sit and watch the sprinklers go off and have a speaker of 80s music playing all night. Man, where did those days go.
R. I. P. Earl Thomas 🕊 Such an incredibly talented man. You will truly be missed my friend. ❤️🙏🏼 Growing up on this music back in Oklahoma was the best! No matter where life takes us your music will always live on!💃🏼💛🎶🎤
One of my dad's faves. When he met my step-mom. He was w mom 16 years & was with my stepmom nearly 37 years. Long time. Rest in piece Betty. Dad really does miss you a whole lot.
Where did this type of music go this music of yesteryear had so much heart and soul in it, it had backbone it had the most talented people on the planet singing it the words were brilliant was composed masterfully today's music is so trashy that it's destructive to even listen to
