In 1962, certainly more hip, culturally popular then than Houston or Austin. Sadly, after the JFK shooting Dallas' national reputation hurt for some time. Mission Control operations for Gemini and Apollo flights and the Astrodome''s arrival made Houston area a more popular Texas destination and place to live, from 1964-1970.
@@statesresearcherDallas wasn’t even close to Houston size and even the popularity of the state capital. Not even close. I remember around this time Fort Worth and Dallas were big rivalry’s trying to our do each Tibet. Houston was already booming 3 times as much as Dallas around this time.
Great video. Would love to slow it down and do some color corrections, but even like this, it evokes strong memories! My husband and I both worked at Elm and Akard (different buildings).
Love videos like this because life is so different now and it's so much easier to record videos of everything and it makes modern videos less rare and special compared to videos like this.
It sure was nice back then. The streets were spotless. People were well-dressed, and there were all kinds of nice stores there. Nowadays downtown Dallas is full of vagrants and the sidewalks are so filthy you've got to watch where you step. Sure has declined.
