[EARLY ARRIVAL] Cobblestone District 2nd Alarm Fire (Buffalo, NY) 6/18/2024
4K Version: • [EARLY ARRIVAL] Cobble...
We were in the building down the street, smelled smoke and came out to see this. The building has been abandoned for more than 20 years and had all the utilities disconnected. The city was in the process of taking the building from the current owner through eminent domain. The fire is considered suspicious and ATF is now involved in the investigation.

Good video. This is a career department, so they know how to put a tower ladder into service, so there must have been water issues.

They seem to be having a lot of trouble actually getting water on the fire. They’re keeping the front of the building wet, but they’re not getting it through the windows. I wonder what their problem is.
@lpfanatic2003
@lpfanatic2003 8 дней назад
Could be from the windows are boarded up and haven't burnt through or the building is too unstable for them to get close enough to get those windows open. Either way there should be a stronger response when it comes to arial units to fight it from the top. As for soaking the front of the building, the department I worked for did that to push on the walls of the fire building so if there is a collapse they could nudge it in hopes that it'll fall away from the street.

They were knocking out the window coverings. Also, most of the roof had collapsed years ago, owner was trying to get it torn down but, Preservationist keepfighting.

What about the ladder just sitting there half way up doing nothing for how many minutes

This building was privately owned for over 10 years. The owner wanted to demolish it to build high-rise residential/commercial structure but the city of Buffalo and the preservationists were blocking the owner's request since the structure was built in the 1800's. Obviously, a boarded -up structure with this kind of involvement is suspicious. Squater's had been know to have been using the structure at times.

WHY is the TL 50 yards from the fire bldg??? What was the problem with the deck gun?? That vantage point most of the internal fire should have been knocked down. 10 minutes in and NO water for TL even though the supply line is charged?? Not good.

Collapse zone Maybe only had booster for the deck gun for a while. Maybe have to reposition or thought about repositioning. Maybe they’re running from water supplying both apparatuses off one water main.

@@michaeld4953 Fire just started so collapse should have been minimal unless they knew something about the Bldg. But if that was the case the other rigs should have been moved away too. Unless that city main was on a dead-end, water should have been plentiful. Never understand why so many Dept's pass a hydrant and then have to drag a supply line back to it. (Stop the rig, test the hydrant, key the hydrant and takeoff to fire.) I'm retired and watch fire-videos a lot. A common issue.

That fire has at least a 30 min head start and not real safe. @richardmeo2503

Truck 2 is covering sides 1 & 2. That's why they're sitting like that. Also it looks far but is 40 feet from the building

@@SHFDRescuemedic With TL extended at 3: 32 they are still not even close to being able to hit the fire. But other fire videos have told me their Depts have No insurance for the rigs. So they have to stay far away. The issue for me is that the Engine is IFO the fire Bldg, why not TL?? looks like it had a good head start.

What a terrible excuse for a fire department. The tower operator is stressing the crap out of the tower. Bouncing it and jerking it at full extension. They can’t even get the water on the fire.

That engine and T2 are inside the collapse zone of those brick walls. Very bad spotting of their rigs!

T2 And E1 are not in the collapse zone. They are back far enough but, form this angle looks like they are right next to it.

@@Gregwing they need to be 1 1/2 the height of the building away. I've seen brick walls come down on a truck that far away. San Jose Fire T3, 2000...
