Despite his flaws, at least Michael Eisner tried running the company Walt would have - even if it meant being a micromanager. Eisner era failures weren't much worse than Disney's own failures. And his successes were just as extravagant and far reaching as Walt's had been. The company grew and generally it was ran well. It wasn't until the mid 2000s (so, more like 15 years ago) when the company started going downhill under Bob Iger's direction. First the outright purchase of Pixar instead of leaving them independent and trying to make amends. Then Marvel. Then Star Wars. And so on. Bob Iger turned Walt Disney's company into a media black hole - and a creatively bankrupt one at that. Sure, the money's still there (partially because he's able to churn out lowest-common-denominator pleasing superhero films while hiking the theme park prices every year) but the creativity and most importantly, the magic is gone... Growing up, I didn't know how good we had it. Now I miss the Disney company... the one that still had a piece of Walt Disney in it. Now it's just another media conglomerate. Or worse, a monopoly. The dragon needs to be slain. Or at least downsized in a trust bust. Otherwise, they'll buy up everything that's left! Here's hoping Bob Chapik is at least a teeny bit better than Iger. Although, I already doubt it (with his statements regarding Song of the South and canceling Splash Mountain and so forth).
