Ron, Most of the saugeye are still in the main lake. The water Temps are still very high in the high 60's to low 70's and the Shad are EVERYWHERE. I'm looking for the Temps to drop into the 50's and below and then we should start to see those migrations into the perimeter channels. However, it never hurts to start trying early :)
Thank you for the reply. I think your videos are great and look forward to seeing more of them. I love saugeye fishing but have been going through a drought since spring.. streams are low and so is my moral..
I love the jerk baits too. I usually use a blue and chrome rapala 3-1/8" husky jerk with some jerk and pause and some dead sticking. Going to start using those now too!
I fished Buckeye Lake this past summer and fall, my concern is/was the water was so green from the blue-green algae..., your thoughts on eating the fish under those conditions. I love your post, please keep them up!
No problem. I've been eating them all year, green and warm or clear and cold. It affects the flavor slightly but still no problem with eating those fish!
They've started migrating into the canals now but there are tons of bait fish to compete against. Until the shad die off more it is best to throw crank baits or vibes to distract them from those bait fish.
Bobby, my most effective on buckeye is the 3" firetiger swim bait from Berkley Power Bait, but I also like using the KVD 1.5 square bill crank bait, and various other swim baits.
Bobby, I went the day after I took that video and same for me, nothing. Went two days ago and got 4 in a new spot, and then went yesterday and absolutely nothing. They are moody right now!
