In case anyone else wonders what that fastback car in the background is at 0:31 - it is a Saab 96. Took me a while. BTW, very cool film. Interesting how well these rc cars already worked back then - nitro cars haven't changed much, except better suspension.

This footage clearly states that the technology for hybrid cars has been around since the 70s, but it takes 40 years for some genius to figure this out.
I started in the early 80's. For nitro we always removed the pull starter and used a belt around the flywheel and a airplane starter, or rope as a rip cord. Cars that were slipper clutch or direct drive we could start them with the rear wheels, but "bell house" 2 and 3 shoe clutches cant. The RC 250 and 500 from that time frame is still one of the best cars ever built even in todays standards. Still competitive. I wish they would bring back the RC 250 and RC 500 nitro cars as new kits without changing a thing. Our cars back then were tanks to say the least. Today everything is flexible nylon crap that is only good for a few years of use whereas the older cars are still going strong today "Chassis wise" That is, with only a few kits that are any good compared to back then.
