That time of the year has come again. The beginning of the fall hunting season. Join me as I kick off the season. In this video it seems to be hard to find game with the heat just starting to subside. None the less this outing is based upon analyzing the new surroundings I put myself in.

Hey man long time hunter of that area and across the hiway also member of Coldwater Indian band. The bucks in that first week of September start to move down temporarily to spar and scrape I find the best way to find them is drive around till you see does then find the nearest alpine and hike up to the top and back down through the ravines think poplar trees small creeks steep

Forgot to mention October is time of mystery for big bucks because after that first move down to scrape and spar they move back up right to sub alpine and stay there till the snow pushes them down usually 2nd week of November

Hey thanks for the insight, that makes sense due to where I’ve seen them based on the time of year. So bucks must spar and scrape essentially right when they are about to lose there velvet, thoughts? Also it seems that almost every deer is different in a behavioural sense and where they tend to be during that time of year. Some residents, some migratory. Any thoughts on that?

Yea they start to spar right away the Yong guys sometimes follow does already hoping one will go in heat before the big boys come down and mess up their day. Also yes deer and moose are very much individuals like us some like to live in groups some live alone in the same place every year unless something pushes them out like wolves or fire. Fire good the very next year though if you get wolves in your area it can mess it up for years until the predator prey cycle resets. But from what I've seen your doing right I even show my kids your videos to show them how hard work and not giving up gives results like your moose last year

I've got a 2008 Tundra with 275/70R18 KO2s. Did you put a levelling kit on yours? I put one on mine that added 3" on the front and 1" on the back and it really helped get through the run-off road washes.

Nice that’s awesome, I don’t have a kit anymore. I took it out a year ago because of the stress on the front end. It was hard for the shop to get a good alignment.

@@truetineoutdoors oh - interesting - well so far I don’t see any abnormal tire wear or pulling to one side on my truck - so I’m guessing mine is fine

"If you're not seeing them there, then they are not there" This is very wrong. I hunt a lot of alpine in a bunch of places I know hold a lot of deer and produces big bucks. Sometimes you can go days morning and evening without seeing a single deer, then one day there they are and you see 7 bucks everyday in the same spot. They come and go, sometimes spend days in another spot within their core area or stay bedded down. The only way to really know is to find a good vantage point, don't scent the area and sit your ass down for hours and glass during prime time. It's tough if its a new spot and you only have a short time and you don't know if it does produce good deer or not.

With your experience, how large would there core area be?

@@truetineoutdoors i've heard anywhere from 5 to 40 square kilometers, no way for me to know, but I assume they use the entire mountain i'm on, especially if it has multiple basins, ridges ect. I have seen them using different basins to feed/bedding spots 2-3km away on the other side of the mountain for days then come back and use another.
