Signs in young girls can be a lot different since they tend to mask better and the symptoms represent differently. I recommend looking up autism symptoms in girls too!

I was 15 when I got diagnosed. It would have made an unimaginable difference to me to grow up knowing why I am the ways I am.

I saw signs in my grandson at about 1 1/2 yrs. Pediatrician didn't agree. So it took a few more years to get a diagnosis. Liked repetitive play, swinging. Now at 21 years, likes pacing and skipping to release tension

It’s also important to note that many common autism signs and stimming behaviors occur in neurotypical children as well. Even ones commonly associating autism, such as hand-flapping. But if anyone notices something or has any concerns at all about your child, you should have them evaluated. It’s free in the US, and early intervention is VERY important. As a parent, if you have a gut feeling, don’t ignore it no matter how many friends and family reassure you there’s nothing wrong.

That was my middle son. SERIOUSLY hyper, and wouldnt answer me. I mentioned to the doctor, and he thought it might be a hearing problem, and put tubes in my sons ears. Did not help. What helped, was finding jobs for him. Keeping him busy. Hes super sensitive, and very compassionate. He defends others, and once I took him to a dog shelter, and he burst out crying. "Mama, why do they have to be in jail?" Broke my heart 😢. Once, he asked me, "Mama, whats wrong with me?" I said, youre a great boy. You just think your own way.

Luvky you were able to get a diagnosis and early intervention. My son is 15 and never diagnosed but I was told by teachers in 4th grade he had autism but that it was too late to do anything because he had already learned to adjust to his surroundings. He is now a pharmacy tech for a healthcare system. So proud of him

I got diagnosed at 9 because of waiting lists, and doctors not believing my mum due to me being able to walk,talk, was social, and didn’t have super bad meltdowns, but my mom has always told me she knew since I was 2. And I believe her. I am 15 now and most people don’t even believe me when I say I have ASD. I am so glad your kids have such amazing parents because most kids don’t, especially kids with special needs. I’m so happy that you’re such great mums and dads. ♥️♥️♥️. tfw I spun a lot, "ignored" people, covered my ears, and even stuck my head in the couch cushions to muffle reality. and i still had to advocate for myself at age seventeen to get a diagnosis! thank you for this video! i'm hopeful for the future generations being more perceptive of their children and their children's needs.

It's awesome that you were able tog et him diagnosed early I went the first 17 years of my life undiagnosed, as I was a "gifted " kid so any wierd behavior I had was written iffy as simply being too smart to communicate with kids my own age

This is similar to my own son (he’s 7, has autism, and ADHD - just like his Mama) - typical development until about 18 months, and then yeah, stopped responding to his name, became obsessed with numbers and letters, meltdowns were epic, and though he’d been starting to be verbal, he became less verbal. He learned to talk (rather than just mimic), read, and write, all kind of at the same time, when he was about 2.5. When I noticed him stimming, I encouraged him, showing him my happy flapping (I never want him to think he’s alone in this family, with regards to neurodivergence - and so there’ll be the two of us watching RU-vid, him bouncing away on his trampoline, me standing on my tip toes and kicking my legs out backwards or attempting to plank across the couch) and we bought a mystery box of fidget toys (both because they’re fun, and to redirect painful stimming). I’m glad that my son finds so much pride in how similar he and I are (I mean, he’s already my mini-me, in looks and general temperament). ❤

Taking nothing away from this vlog . . . Autism is a spectrum. I don’t remember having trouble making eye contact, and when working retail I use it a lot to connect with my customers. Look for all the signs. Don’t rule out autism if a sign is missing.

My younger brother wasn't diagnosed with autism until he went to college, which made me feel so bad for him because it was hard for the rest of us to understand and connect with him as easily growing up. Im glad that you were able to see the signs in your son so he could get help!

We really started paying attention around 14mo. He wasnt making eye contact, obsessed over the tv and is very flappy. He just turned 2, still undiagnosed, nut his therapists agree he has the symptoms. Hes starting to pick up a few signs, simple words like yay and is paying so much more attention to people. Hes a great kid, loves cuddles and chaos (but is a tad ocd) and seriously lights up every room hes in. Somehow for a kid that doesnt understand social interaction much he is such a ham. Hes an amazing kid and i swear autistic kiddos have superpowers. Im so blessed to have him ❤❤❤

Your son is so adorable! I noticed signs in my daughter by the time she was 3, but the doctors wouldn’t diagnose her until she was 8. It’s really hard with girls since the mask better, but somehow moms know! I wish doctors would stop treating us like we are all uneducated and hysterical! Your son is lucky to have you, and I hope he has a rich and satisfying life. It takes a ton of work and dedication, but my daughter is thriving! ❤

I got diagnosed at the age of 11 due to wating lists and being able to walk and talk. But i was constantly covering my ears and was never able to separate from my Mum. I am so glad you have catered for your kids needs, and I am sure they will love you for it in the future. if he is anything like me I found it hard to talk as a kid when I didn't want/like something so instead my mum came up with this game where she kept little cards and a pen in my pocket and I would draw pictures if I wasn't happy. she would then flick through the pictures a few times a day to make sure I didn't feel uncomfortable. I was extremely intelligent as a child so I picked up writing fairly quickly and it grew to be a hobby for me.

I knew by the time my son was 9 months old. Three doctors dismissed his behaviours. He was diagnosed at age nine. The doctor asked if I wanted this "label" for him. Autism is real, not a label. My son has struggles and he was validated by the diagnosis because it explained so much to him, breaking his shame cycle. What a world we live in.

I know how it feels me and my siblings have a disability. It’s not easy, but we always work together as a family through bad and good times.

Not everyone with autism has the so called typical signs boys and girls have different signs and there are so many degrees of autism. My daughter has high functioning autism but it was diagnosed as bipolar, anxiety and paranoia it wasn’t confirmed that she is on the spectrum until she was 18 yrs old the the bipolar diagnosis didn’t take in all the other issues she was having.

It’s self-stimulation that has commonly been called “self stimming” or just “stimming.” These days, the vocabulary has been slowly changing and it’s being called autistic stereopathy or stereotypy. However, we ALL have our own types of stimming such as nail biting, drumming your fingers on a surface, or full body movements like rocking or swaying. My son, who is now 28 years old, was also diagnosed with autism and ADHD right around his fourth birthday. He also met his milestones on schedule, at 20 months old, he started to regress. Thank goodness for my moms help. She had majored in Early Childhood Education. Without her, I wouldn’t have known where to start. My son had an IEP from kindergarten until he graduated from high school. I had him 17 days before my 21st birthday, and his dad turned out to be a deadbeat. I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety since I was about 15 years old, and I was diagnosed with ADD in January, 2023. I think it’s because I had assumed I’d be an empty nester by now, but he can’t live on his own. He has a job, but I drive him everywhere. I have no life. Don’t get me wrong, I love my son, but I’d just like to have some “me time” back. I get extremely envious when I see videos of babies, toddlers, and older kids who come across so different than my own son. I never thought I’d be raising a child for my entire life.

Bless all the loving parents out there to children with special needs. Raising kids is difficult enough but those parents must face especially challenging situations all the time.

I got diagnosed with ADHD around 4-5 years old, but never got taken in for an autism diagnosis despite my grandma telling my mom a lot of the time I showed signs of it as a kid and even now as an adult. I'm glad to see a parent handling this type of thing so well

My 7 year old granddaughter was diagnosed at three although the educators in my daughter and I knew when she was 11 months old. Autistic babies thrive!!♥️

It's so important for parents to be on the lookout for things like these! Getting a diagnosis earlier helps kids grow up without feeling like something is wrong with them.

I wish my parents would've noticed my symptoms. Looking back there were so many signs. But because I didn't fit the stereotype, I only got the official diagnosis about a month ago, and I'm 17. I have known since I was like 12 though, because my younger sibling got diagnosed and when doing research I figured out I'm also autistic.

I grew up in a family with several people in the spectrum. The ones I know are successful, unique, and also focus on a particular subject. Each got in carriers that would feed their focus in science. The fact that they are successful relies totally in the great ability to focus in their interests. When someone says he is obsessed with trains, or sicknesses, or cats, or movies, do not say it with a negative connotation. Because the obsession can lead to having one of the best scientist, engineers, doctors, accountants, etc, etc this planet can ever have.

I am a psychologist. Once with my fiancé we visited his nephew. I felt obligated to tell his parents what I see and that they should take him for consultations. They didn’t say anything but told about it to my boyfriend mother. She called me a yelling at me who do I think I am to say such things and he is completely fine and by telling that I bring a bad omen. I was to nice to respond properly. 3 years later he was diagnosed with autism. Well… again my fault 🤦🏻‍♀️ people are so ignorant

I feel for parents who have no idea whats wrong and cannot get help for their child when they are having mini breakdowns. Hopefully things are getting better, not sure what its like in the US, but my friend with children who lives in the UK with all three on the Autism scale says help is out there, but getting an early diagnosis is very difficult. Keep sending your videos out as am sure they will be so helpfull to struggling mothers everywhere ❤🙏

I didn’t get diagnosed till I was in my early teens. My family never really believed in disorders liked Autism, ADHD, or even like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. They’re the kind to say, “You’re not depressed, you just need to smile more. And pray.” I showed very obvious signs like not playing with my toys but instead sorting them, tip toeing, I didn’t like hugs and kisses, any socks or shoes I wore would cause a meltdown but they were called “tantrums” and I was just “a difficult kid” lol my mom said one day, around the age of 3, she heard me screaming to high heavens. She tried to pick me up to check if I was hurt, but I stiffened like a board and had my head locked all the way back. Apparently I started scratching and hitting her, all while just screaming incoherently. I was thrashing so hard she had to lay me back on the floor, and according to her, I rolled all the way across the floor till I met the wall, then I started hitting myself against the wall. She said this went on for almost an hour. So naturally, she called a priest 😂 And he concluded that an “evil power” has a hold on me and must be “blessed” from my body 🙃I barely remember the “blessing” but I know it involved holy water and two men from the church restraining me while momma cried. Now before ANYONE says I was abused, she was doing the only thing she thought would help because she was scared of what was happening, and it was the ✨ 90s✨I got really depressed in my teens from feeling so disconnected and my mom sought out therapy for me, and her too eventually. With the help of my therapist and psychiatrist, I got my autism diagnosis and she was actually diagnosed ADHD. It took a lot of time, communication, and understanding, but we’ve never been closer. I just wish we had found out earlier, that way my childhood wouldn’t have been so hard and our relationship never suffered from it.

Keep in mind that signs of autism can also be signs of other things too. Always do your homework and work with your doctor and other experts. My son showed some signs of autism, and later ADHD, but it turned out to only be a unilateral hearing loss. Once that was addressed it made all the difference. The same would be true of any accurate diagnosis.

All the people saying to stop vaccinating a kid and let him possibly die from a life threatening illness is kinda concerning.

I saw signs of autistic behaviors in my son almost immediately after he was born. As someone who grew up surrounded by little siblings, babysat all my life, worked in a daycare through college and became a teacher, I HAD SOME EXPERIENCE. But I was disgusted and shocked to be waved away by every provider at our pediatric office. Every visit was rushed and I was told I was overreacting as a first time mom. I had to become my son’s advocate, cheerleader, therapist, teacher, etc until he was finally diagnosed at 2. He’s 2.5 and thriving, the sweetest, smartest, and most driven little toddler. We work hard to find the ways that work for him, to navigate the world as he feels is right. It’s been exhausting, heart wrenching, and challenging. But also so rewarding, fulfilling and awe-inspiring. I just want every parent who has a neurodivergent child to know their kid is blessed to have them and I’m proud of them for their exhaustive efforts. ❤

I knew my nephew had autism when he was 2 weeks old. He just didn’t react like a typical baby. He wasn’t diagnosed until he was 4 also and it was extremely frustrating because where I live the doctors all thought my sister was just trying to get attention by saying something was not right with her son. It was ridiculous. Turns out we were correct.

My nephew has been stimming since the very beginning and, at nearly 2 years old, doesn't speak at all or answer to his name. He doesn't have meltdowns so far, though. He's not officially diagnosed yet, but even the specialist they saw had no doubt as soon as she met him.

I was pretty similar when I was little, yet somehow no one noticed and probably thought I just "didn't know how to behave". It took untill I was fifteen and started doing my own research, constantly trying to explain to people why I might be different and finally getting testing and diagnosed at 16, a few months ago. Growing up "different" (autism and adhd) was honestly way more difficult and confusing than it needed to be. I'm glad you noticed these things in your son and didn't just ignore it

First child and only daughter, I didn't get diagnosed until I was 26 and that was only after my mom saw some similar signs with my youngest brother who got diagnosed at before 10 and then moved into a different school. There's very little support for adults with newly diagnosed autism, nothing has changed for me and I wish I was diagnosed as a child

Sounds like a similar timeline to me, according to my mom. Ended up being diagnosed at three, probably only because my mom noticed something was up, because girls are often not diagnosed for a while, if at all. I learned for myself at 15 because I realized I was "messed up" and did my own research. Mom ended up casually confirming in conversation when talking about seeing Vaxxed with one of her friends a month and a half later without any prompting from me. Threw me for a loop that she hadn't told me before. She said it was so I didn't develop a complex. Since then, I've made an effort to improve my coping skills with certain situations now that I actually have an idea of what's going on in my brain. I'm 22 now. The stimming never goes away. I've just learned acceptable ones for when I'm out of the house. The bubble never goes away. I got through middle school by mentally relating half of the curriculum to Danny Phantom (one of my first hyperfixations), and people just often have to repeat things to me in general outside of school. I was glued to the TV more often than not as a child, but PBS Kids is educational, so it was mostly okay as long as I didn't sit too close and ruin my eyes more. I've learned a socially-accepted (as far as I'm aware of, anyway) way of dealing with eye contact: every once in a while, glancing up at someone's eyes for a couple seconds, then looking away again. I often stare at people's mouths, because I can almost sort of lip-read when my brain doesn't want to understand spoken syllables. And as for sensory issues, I often have either earplugs or earbuds in my bag, and my glasses automatically tint themselves when I'm outside. And my mom learned early on, when I was mostly nonverbal, to only get me comfortable clothes because I'd get upset if they weren't right. I've mostly just stuck to those types of things for most of my life, though I've since learned how to wear jeans in a way acceptable to me. Key aspects of my life have been my ability to problem-solve when things aren't going how I want them to, and to clearly explain what I'm thinking or feeling, so I highly recommend you encourage your child in those respects. If he's like me, any communication might be blunt as Hell, but that might mean he could also benefit from things being explained to him bluntly as well when he doesn't otherwise understand something. However he communicates is likely a good indication of how he understands things.

My son had signs very early. As a baby he hated being touched. His 1st diagnosis was sensory disfunction disorder. Physically he met milestones but emotionally and linguistically he didn't. As a parent, if you feel something is not typical behavior please say something. Don't let the doctors ignore you. Advocate for your child. My son had therapy since he was 2. He is attending college now and has a job. Plus he is making friends. Therapy early can make a huge impact but you have to fight for it.

A lot of autistic girls get misdiagnosed with BPD because they have a lot of overlapping symptoms and most autism research was conducted mainly on young males. I didn't know I was likely autistic until I was 20.

My 21 year old daughter was just diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). After years of diagnosies not fitting all the puzzle pieces together ... now they do 😔. Lord help us heal as a family.

That is almost exactly what we experienced with my Dominic (now 7). My whole family has been demanding for years that is because of the vaccinations that I was insisting he get when he was a baby. I got diagnosed with autism at the age of two I got it from my biological father(my parents are divorced) and my mom started to notice that I would never sleep ,avoiding eye contact, stimming stuff like that 😅

If he doesn't react to you calling his name, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's in his own bubble. He heard you, he knows you are talking to him, but he just doesn't look at you. We are very perceptive, even if it seems to others that we aren't fully there.

I new since my son was 3 months old. At 12 months we visited my mother in law, her 3rd visit seeing my son. And she finally spoke up to say we should have him evaluated. She is an OT and has been working with gifted kids for many years but she was afraid it was too early before that to mention anything. I was not heartbroken when he got the diagnosis, I was relieved that I was gonna finally be able to seek help he needed and he is doing great! ❤ the tantrums at 1 year old were incredibly emotionally difficult but understanding what it might be for him Vs expecting him to act like a typical kid helped immensely with patience.

my brother was 4 when he was diagnosed but I didn't know until he was 14. My mum told me, when he was younger, he spoke his first word and didn't speak again for months and he also didn't always answer to his name. he still doesn't always answer to his name but he has coped very well.

As the mother of a child in the system since the age of 2......support your children on all steps, however do not look to label your children because they are not hitting their milestones....parenting mental health is a full time job alone, be aware, do your own research ( every child is different)...but ultimately they require, love , determination and dedication....I've seen so many parents get a diagnosis , and just give up.....never give up😮

My child had none of these. Instead, she had an excellent memory, read only reference books, and was very interested in one major topic for several years at a time (dogs and cats). She wasn’t diagnosed till 15, as her psychologist missed it due to other issues.

The ignoring when called and being in his own world despite what’s going on also sounds like typical husband behavior

I'm 22 with autism and still unable to give eye contact. I met my boyfriends family for the first time recently and their reaction was all about my eye contact and thought I was nervous. Not at all, I just struggle to communicate with people whilst giving eye contact. My lack of eye contact does make me feel insecure but nonetheless once they found out they were all really supportive.

Mum saw signs since I was 5. I was 20 when I was diagnosed.

My little brother is three almost 4 and we all thing he has autism. We started to see signs around 1/2 but we wanted to wait till he was older to see how he does. He just got on the list for a screening. Your son is so adorable also❤️

My mom noticed a lot of these signs when I was a baby so as a Hispanic mom she just like brute forced me into "fixing it" and I was stuck masking and they went super unsure if I was actually autistic so as an autistic person im very glad you are showing how the signs can look as a baby

Other than my son not liking tv at all, ever, your story is exactly the same as mine. Knowing early and getting therapy young makes all the difference. My son is 17 now and doing so well in many areas and all the experts said he may never speak or be potty trained. But his therapy made the difference. I wish you the same.

My mom wished she'd have got me diagnosed sooner, but she thought it would "go away". And then in high-school I got a councilor I trusted, but immediately lost my trust when I brought up I may be autistic, then she brought out a book from like, the 1900's and said if I don't have any of the symptoms in it I wasn't autistic. And when I did relate to the the "symptoms" apparently I just wasn't severe enough. She made me feel so foolish, so me and my mom dropped her right after.

I'm 12 and I'm on the list for getting tested for ADHD and autism, and I honestly just kinda want to get it over with and see if I have them or not, and if I do then just get meds or something to control it because I am really annoying and I miss social cues all the time, the worst being not telling when someone is annoyed until they snap. Good job for getting him tested so early

My mom never cared enough to notice, and I’m great at masking not only my feelings but that too, very well. Nobody can tell.

I have a cousin of 4 he did not speak clearly until the age of 3 he did not respond to his name when called so my family thought he had hearing problems (which he didn't have). Whenever he sensed he was entering a hospital he would have a meltdown he was obsessed with cars. my family refuses to cheak him for autism. When the signs are clear. I don't know what to do.

My niece was lucky to have been diagnosed at the age of 2 and 1/2, only because there was a cancellation on the waiting list. She is 8 now and all the care is paying off.

From an autistic late diagnosed person with am also Autistic wife: Please oh please don't scream at him. Most of the time we hear you, just cause we don't look at you doesn't mean we don't hear you. We just can't answer cause we can't take any more stimuli in at that monet and screaming make the later meltdown so much worse. Have patience with the little bud. What helps is learning non verbar communication, such as sign language. It takes up a different part of the bran and is not as overstimulating as sound. There is also a thing called loops, or off brand silicon earplugs: all sizes. He will still hear most but not as loud, they don't hurt the ears and are easy to put in. Get him noise cancelling headphones as well, early please ❤❤ make the bedroom as little as overstimulating as possible. Calm colors, pastels. There are Aerial silks you can buy that hang from the seeling that help with overstimulation. He can go in there and rock in them or swing. It's awesome

I would never interpret these early signs as autism. But I'm happy to see that he seems to have a lovely happy childhood. He really is adorable 🥰

I knew a baby 50 years ago and immediately recognized the signs as i had studied this in school. I talked to the childs mother and she was in denial insisting that the doctor would have said something. I replied the doctor only saw her child for a few minutes and it was up to her to advocate for her child. The child didn't get help until school age. I understand now in that state children get autism screening at age three so get help earlier.

Babies run mostly on reflexes in order to survive, that’s why many don’t have any symptoms at all before the age of 8-18 months.

I'm autistic but it took a long time to get a doctor to agree with my parents and say I did cause I actually got most my milestones developing extremely early. I was speaking full sentences at 14 weeks old

My oldest never wanted to be held long as a baby, could push himself up the day after he was born, when older he never made eye contact, always spinned the wheels of toy cars, never wanted anything else, food problems, etc. It's hard, but trust me, with the right help they will get there ❤ .

I saw this in my gs very early but my son was in total denial about it so it was years before he got treatment and his symptoms were recognized I was right but wish I'd been wrong . If you have any suspicions at all get it diagnosed don't put your head in the sand and hope it will go away it won't and your and their life will be so much worse if you don't. The difference in his behaviour now he's on tablets is just wonderful so get it done DO NOT IGNORE THE SYMPTOMS.

Why would you scream his name 1000 times - and “blame” autism for his meltdowns? Meltdowns are a reaction to overwhelming surroundings - and what could be more overwhelming to a little person than having your mother screaming your name at you 1000 times. An autistic life doesn’t have to be full of meltdowns and other signs of extreme stress - but that calls for the parents of the autistic child to educate themselves. Not just scream at the child in frustration.

These observations by mom are so important as the diagnosis of autism is one that pediatricians are reluctant to make as they don't want to promote stigmas. The research goes on but must always be coupled with kindness and love. This little guy is a treasure.

Very similar to my now 4 year old. I am grateful I was able to get his diagnosis a bit earlier at 2 and into an autism clinic in Lieu of daycare. It has helped but progress as you know, is soo very slow. He is in a constant autism bubble and doesn’t see or hear me most of the time which makes teaching him very difficult. But he is happy and healthy and it is what matters most. Keep pushing mamma. You’re doing amazing.
