After more than 27 years of continuous sobriety, I would like to share my mantra about ongoing recovery..."Live in the problem, or live in the solution". (Translation, "Go to meetings, clean house, and help others") Simple! When I do all, or some combination of those things on a daily basis, drinking is not a part of my consciousness! It's been the greatest adventure of my life! All the best, Mark

You look amazing! I have been guilty of all of these in the past which led to relapses, switching addictions from 1 pill to another. It was when I was 100% honest to my doctor last year (and myself) that I was able to start recovering. Point 5 is AMAZING. It is hard work, but so was finding the drug of choice and keeping up with it. Her points are KEY, everyone!

Thanks, Lauren 💜 I know these mistakes well because I TOO made all of them during my first 5 years when I relapsed over and over and over again. We really do have to get honest with ourselves before ant progress can be made. At least that was my experience! Thanks again 💜

I subscribed and get value out of these video's. I have commented on other topics. My situation is with prescription opiods and all were prescribed due to multiple surgeries over the years. My question is...most people around me found me functional , but obviously affected by these pain killers. I stayed very fit, I worked as a self employed tradesman. How would I get those around me to see the seriousnous of this post acute phase? I casually mentioned this and it is nearly brushed off. I don't understand PAWS, but anticipate the affects. These good people around me think I am strong now and have gotten past this. God Bless.
@DRKJFOSTER
@DRKJFOSTER 4 года назад
Hi Tony - What you describe is common. There are so many people who are high functioning. Post-Acute Withdrawals is also an issue that many don't understand, which is why I have made many videos on the subject. This is also an area of education and focus with the family members I work with in treatment. As for your question, I'll put it this way... my sister-in-law experiences, and suffers from, chronic migraines. I have never had a migraine. I have no idea what it feels like to have a migraine. She has explained it to me and I can try to imagine what it must be like. But, really, I don't truly know what it's like. The point is that you are expecting people to understand who can't possibly understand. My advice is that you be open and honest to what you are experiencing and don't let the fact that they brush it off or don't understand keep you from doing what you need to do for your health and your recovery. Let me know if you have any other questions and would love for you to keep me posted on how you are doing.

I had a Medtronic morphine pump removed prematurel while it was running.I didn't take opioids orally.The doc never told me the out come.It threw me into withdrawal big time. I had it 8 yrs after 8 back surgeries.Still dealing after almost 4 months in with horrible withdraws.My dr.knows am on Xanax and have been for many,many years.My anxiety is thorough the roof,but I don't abuse them.If I didn't take them I know going through this,I don't know where I would be.I was given burenorphine in the beginning and was in rehab and mental health.My body and mind took a beating.Am 65 yrs old and otherwise in good health.But my Lord when does the withdrawals stop.Shaking legs,flushing in my face,tremors.They are easing up and PAWS is getting better.Never did drugs in my life.Drank occasionally and never smoked pot,quit cigarettes in 98!

Dr. Well done as usual. When you speak of early sobriety, what are you referring to in months, years.
@DRKJFOSTER
@DRKJFOSTER 4 года назад
Thanks, Mac 💜 As for Early Sobriety, it is defined differently by different people. As you will see by other comments, these are mistakes that people make in early sobriety and well into recovery. I label it as Early Sobriety because there are so many people that seem to be searching for info about early sobriety. To me, "early sobriety" is the first 5 years. But again, these are warnings those in recovery, no matter where you are in your journey, need to be aware of these warning signs. Thanks for watching and commenting!

That’s exactly what I’m going through, I’m fresh out of my 3rd treatment, and I’m literally doing all of these right now and I’m miserable, I’m having that Anhedonia. Just no motivation, got my med card because I think weed is ok (when I know it’s prob not healthy for recovery, but idk, weed can go both ways) I’m lying to my doc to keep getting benzos (I even rarely take them, out of 90 I take maybe 3 or 4 in pieces) it’s mostly an extra monthly paycheck cause I sell them to a woman I know. Not wanting to be open and honest with family about what I’m going through, they all think that We go off to rehab for a bit and boom we’re cured, I wish. It’s hard, all of this is hard. BUT.. I can do hard things.

What would you do if a clinicial cooled turkey you off 240mg that I tolerated fine with no alcohol an almost killed me. Hello to the Veterans Administration who had no clue, leaving me with post acute withdrawal síndrome and prior to entering the VA approach was "no tolerance " leaving me with not one good day in 4 years when they abotarily took me off benzos and oxycotin totally all at once. Now for the damage they have done left me with anadonia. Thanks for your reacción to my problem
@DRKJFOSTER
@DRKJFOSTER Год назад
Omgosh, Jon. That sounds terrible. I am so sorry you have had to go through this. Unfortunately, there are a lot of doctors who either don't know what they're doing or just don't care. I hope that you can advocate for yourself with the VA and get some better assistance with your issues.

I loved opioids could get enough lived on the streets running after heroin addicts to get my subies. After 3 years it started to ware me out physically. Never even though of taking heroin I'd happily suffer when I could get subs. Anyway they put me ona script for 2 years I started to feel like a slave to them. Abusing the tablets also. I woke up one morning and decided naaaaa I'm done here with this. Off 16ml daily to nothing daily and how I'm still alive I don't know. Day 30 today still no sleep let's go let's go !!!!

@DRKJFOSTER Год назад
I get what you're saying, and agree with you to an extent. I think we differ in our mental strength (absolutely), but I also believe that even those who start out with a strong mind, will still eventually succumb over time if they keep abusing alcohol and espeically some of the stronger drugs, because they (the drugs) weaken the mind over time. So, overall, it is a very personal experience, but I still think anyone can succumb to addiction over time (both psychologically and physically).
@rawvizion4125

You are spot there to be honest. As a kid growing it. And I'm not shore why but I carried hatred for heroin addicts. I would chase them beat them up at times to keep them away from my frends. Now I realise I was wrong and so wrong. I think this is why I cope a habbit on subitex personaly. And I had to go through the withdrawals to realy understand. Its not there fault
