The calendar says spring of 2023 has begun! But here in Las Vegas, we are having a colder than usual start of spring. Here is a very early winter update on how my plants are and how and when did I start watering my cactus with fertilizer.

I never stopped watering my cacti because I have them inside house. (I’m in Canada). I did my first fertilizer treatment 2 weeks ago with Shultz’s cactus liquid fertilizer. We’ll see how it goes.

It doesn’t even feel like spring here in Central California! It was 32 degrees last night which is extremely rare for this time of year and it will be 62 degrees today. None of my cactus are coming out of dormancy yet unlike this time last year.

I sold all my cacti but one I've had for over 10 years. I really miss them. If I lived in a more cati favored climate I would have kept them, But Id put them in a grow tent every winter with a 1500 watt grow light and they would never stop growing and flowering.

@@michellechapman6839 I went today a nearly got one but I don't know my low light cati yet. Any pointers? I'm getting a blue torch again for sure! And the one I had that only bloomed at night.

@@matthewpetersen4417 most cacti require the same care . Just start off with an inexpensive one. I buy from home Depot store $7. a Parodia or a mammillaria types are easy to grow. They can grow indoors in the window to get sunlight. Keep watching this channel and Anna can guide you to growing nice cactus plants.

In So Ca Inland Empire - 1/2-way between The Desert & the Coast - we had nights in the mid 30’s- mid 40s & mych rain & very little sunshine! My cacti are outside in ground - holding my breath. They became fat with each period of 2-4 days of rain! Thanks for caution advice to hold off fertilizing while still in the mid 40s @ nite. Thanks for being a super teacher for my new love of owning cacti! You are a great inspiration!

Its still cold and wet in the Pacific North West 😢 lows in the upper 30's and highs in upper 50's . I have just recently started a cacti collection and learning what I can. I love your page and content, I get alot of great info to adapt to here.. Thanks and keep up the great videos ❤

You can grow them indoors..do you have a window near the south area? They will grow.

@@michellechapman6839 yes, I have a three level shelving in my guestroom with grow lights and two large windows with shelves and windows as well.. Also a 10x10 greenhouse with plans to add heat this summer.. At the moment I have over a hundred succulents and maybe 20 cactus.. I might have an addiction 😬 lol. Thank you for the suggestion though..

Happy Spring, Ana! What a weird year it’s been so far weather wise. I’m in Orange County (CA) and we had so much rain it isn’t even funny anymore. Cold too. Thank you for this awesome video, I just love how informative and humble you are. Can’t wait to see your beauties bloom🌵🌸

Yeah, Orange County has a long history of having hot dry spells then get pummeled with rain. It's been so bad some years there were mud slides. I remember about every 10 years or so, I would see on the news, houses go sliding right off their foundations due to mud slides. It's really bad I know. Stay safe over there.

It must be one of the rainiest winter to spring in years. California especially was hit really bad. In here it is just the bitter cold, rain isn’t too hard, just light showers. But I’m not liking the wind💨. Stay safe, dry and warm out there! 😃☕️

I'm excited too!! I gave my plants a good drink and some tomato fertilizer!! I bought 4 more new cactus. And I separated an arrangement and repotted them!! OMG!! Everything is doing well. I'm hoping to see blooms by May!!

Hey Ana, my spring has been a bit cool as well here in Texas, in the 40s, burrrr. I had to get my blankie out last night to snuggle in. I'm so excited however to report that I'm going to have a super bloom. My Rebutia is covered in little purple buds thanks to your instruction on how to get your cacti to bloom. I'm also very excited about my Echinocereus Rigidissimus which I've had for 2 years is in bud for the first time, 2 of them them!!! Hurrah! Also my Parodia that I've had for 3 years is also in bud for the first time, also 2 of them. Glad to see you are back in fighting form after being ill. Happy spring Ana!

Sorry that you were not feeling well earlier in the month, Ana, but great to hear that you are feeling much better again now! haha, I had to laugh when I saw your Kopi Tiam coffee bags, they are indee so practical and good, I know them well from my years when I was living and working in Malaysia and Singapore! Here in Phoenix we have had record rain this winter and the weather is much colder than usual. I have lost a few cactus to rot, BUT so many others are full of more buds than ever! I am so excited to have them flower! I bought the Organic Tomato Food like yours and will use it the beginning of April.

Try out a 20-20-20 and ammonium sulfate fertilizer. You'll get a lot more flowers rather than a tomatoes fertilizer. If you're familiar with Mesa garden and a few other collectors they use that to get faster growth and a lot more flowers.

@@solarwinds- No it won't, I grow trichocereus, mammillaria,ferrocactus and it makes them nice and fat. Her tomato fertilizer she is using is to weak. 1-3-1 or whatever it was 10-10-10 should be minimum. Cactuses can survive on almost nothing but they thrive when fed and watered. Trichocereus especially they are different then most other cactuses and can be feed 1-2x a week. I feed them a 24-8-16 weekly. And I use around 70% organics in my soil. Cactuses acclimate to their surroundings most of the time. And i get 5-8 ft of rain a year here. And they stay outside year round. Their soil stays wet year round.

Hi Ana! I moved from Tucson to SoCal in February, and the amount of rain that has come through here has been insane. It's been terribly cold and wet here. The weather only just cleared up in my area a few days ago. I did start watering some of my indoor cacti that were showing signs of growth, but I'm going to be holding off on giving the rest a drink for at least another week or so.

This time last year here in Phoenix Arizona it was in the 90’s - this year it’s upper 60’s and rainy. 🥶 🌧️ I have the Espoma Tomato fertilizer as well as the Espoma Cactus fertilizer. Would the cactus fertilizer also help with blooming or should I use the tomato fertilizer? Hope spring finally gets here for all of us (never imagined I’d say that because usually it’s warmer)!

The weather sure is strange lately. A cactus fertilizer helps in flowering too but I find a bloom fertilizer (like tomato fertilizer) encourages more bud formation.

Spring, it's bloody cold in Vegas, I spent the morning scraping the ice off my wind shield this morning? I live here in Vegas as well and new to growing/killing cacti, I watered my Cacti 2 weeks ago and noticed that I killed and damaged some of my Cacti, HMM? I think I'll wait a couple weeks before I water again.
