Yankeetown is back, but is it really back? Fishing didn't really seem like it was back as we struggled to catch a bite today. Luckily on the incoming tide some of the oyster bars got some water on them and that brought in the redfish. I was able to get into a little pile of juvenile reds but still unable to get me a slot. With this warmer weather, the fishing should only get better. This was filmed back in late February, I am just a month behind editing haha.
Always thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed!

Hi, that looks like a good day to me and I recently moved into the area (not in Yankeetown) but 30-ish minutes from the town. I would love to learn to pursue the Reds as well as other species since I'm a Fly Fisherman as well. Also, in my 15mo of "scouting" (not fishing or kayaking) I havent gotten too far as far as information wise or nearing to "wet a line" as don't know where to go or whatnot. I welcome any suggestions or advice and possibly find new friends. Thank you and TIGHT LINES!!😊

Welcome to the area! Definitely has some great fishing at times! I’m not too much of a fly fishermen so I don’t know the best ways to fish that but I would imagine it’s pretty similar! Points and oyster bars are definitely the best place to start, make sure to pay attention to the tides as well, a high rising tide is good for oyster bars as the fish are able to forage on them when they are under the water! Deep cuts and points are good on a low tide as fish funnel to those deep areas! I mainly fish with free lined live shrimp and a 3 inch paddle tail on a jig head! With this warmer weather approaching the outer islands are going to hold more and more bait which brings fish so the fishing on those should really be picking up here for the next few months, at least what I’ve seen in the past year and a half! Definitely need a boat or kayak to get to most spots and increase your chance of catching fish! Good luck and I hope this helps a little!

@Fishin4hogs thanks for the tip!! I certainly can help you in the fly fishing area (freshwater or saltwater) as that's one of the things I teach as a guide. (Not for Florida unfortunately) but do have a "kayak" which is very unique and different from the rest. Shrimp sounds like the "universal" bait for around here in Florida. (As mackerels are commonly used for the NorthEast stripers) 😉 Again if you see an unusual kayak (OD green colored and has a windshield) that would be me - stop over and say hi. Anyways thank you again for the tip on how to catch local fish. Have a great day and enjoy your time on the water. 🤠
