Truly a work of art. Planning and the prep work are the key. You are certainly leaving a legacy and making your part of England a better place. Thanks for the skill set you are sharing but the work load must be daunting at times.

You should have good luck with your Annabelle hydrangea. I have some in every condition throughout my yard from moist full shade, dry morning sun, moist late afternoon/evening sun to dry full south facing sun and they are all doing quite well. Best of luck to you.

It's so hard to watch your fantastic garden by someone who lives in the sweaty southeast of the States but from the cool of my air-conditioner it was a sweet journey! You are always so informative and I thank you for that. In your part of England, have you ever heard of blackspot, whitefly and aphids (tongue in cheek)???? Would love a lesson in dealing with these struggles from my garden.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Re: pests and diseases, I don’t do much, when I get bugs I just wait and the birds usually sort them out in time. Companion planting is good though and if your roses have black spot then try underplanting them with salvias, particularly the microphylla, the small-leaved varieties. I learnt this from Sarah Raven who has done a lot of experiments at her home called Perch Hill (look it up if interested). The smell from salvias is slightly sulphurous, and of course sulphur is a fungicide, and she believes that these salvias have sulphur in their scent profile, and when they get hot they warm up and they release that and they produce puffs of natural, home-grown fungicide, and keep roses pristine and black spot and mildew free without using chemicals. She mentions some lovely ones called ‘Nachtvlinder’ which means ‘night light’, ‘Jezebel’, and then another lovely one called ‘Cerro Potosí’. Might be worth you looking into this and the bonus is that salvias are beautiful plants in their own right as well as improving our roses! Hope this helps Jenny

Just.........stunning!!! So nice too to have a channel which provides the full botanical name of plants. I presume your soil ph is around 6.5?? (Just thinking about what plants I could try in my garden 😁.)
@MurphysGarden
@MurphysGarden Год назад
Yes, it’s exactly that! - I’m impressed!! Are you on the same? We are terribly sandy so always a battle holding on to moisture but soil seems quite fertile but always adding compost to it to try and improve it. Salvias, lavender, geraniums, lupins, delphiniums, all the perennial cottage favourites do well. For hedging, yew and box love it too. Thanks for watching Jenny

Thank you for your kind feedback. It’s just myself and my husband and we both work so we mostly do the garden at weekends. It keeps us on our toes, we’ve got a lot to do just with the maintenance and so it’s always a bit of a challenge pushing on with the structural stuff too, hence why we must get things done in winter.

We are very rarely able to sit still long enough to enjoy it! Always jumping up to remove a weed or water a plant! But enjoy working on it, which is just as well!!!🤣

Thank you for showing us round and the drone film footage to get a good idea of how your garden is laid out. I think it is lovely. I think what you said was dierama is gladiolus Byzantinus, known as whistling jacks here in the south west. They may have seeded themselves in from elsewhere. My poor garden is so parched and we are on a hosepipe ban, watering cans galore!!!!
@MurphysGarden
@MurphysGarden Год назад
Oh is that what it is! They just appeared, they do look like gladiolus! They are a different colour from the dierama and dierama are more papery looking. Thank you so much for that, very helpful. Glad you liked the video Jenny

Thank you, we haven’t treated the grass for a couple of years. The quality of our grass isn’t great and the grass in the Quadrant Garden looks very patchy. We reseeded it after correcting the height when we installed the metal edging and it was too cold and didn’t germinate and now it’s too dry and the pigeons have eaten most of it 😂 The trials and tribulations of gardening! Thanks for watching Jenny
