I actually paid $1500 for an early Model 3 reservation through somebody on craigslist. I went to the guy's home and made sure the order went through before paying. It made me nervous because it still showed in his name until delivery day. I suspect he could've ripped me off at anytime. I had his name and address so I decided to risk it & it worked out.

Tesla is not going to play this game. If your number comes up you buy or lose your spot. They are not going to spend time changing names etc. as that then becomes a legal mess particularly when selling to people in other countries/jurisdictions. Come on. Tesla has 2M reservations and would love any excuse to move to the next reservation holder.

Agreed. Tesla has no incentive to complicate things on their end to accommodate order transfers. I wish it were otherwise since I have two orders and would like to be able to sell one of them but until Tesla tells me it's possible I'm not going to get my hopes up.

This may be old news by now but I found this in my Tesla account Can I transfer my reservation to someone else or resell my vehicle after delivery? No. Cybertruck reservations cannot be transferred. Additionally, Tesla and its affiliates sell vehicles directly to end consumers, and we may unilaterally cancel any reservations that we believe have been made with a view toward resale of the vehicle or have otherwise been made in bad faith or violates our Order Agreement.

It surprises me because traditionally the first few months and even years of production vehicles are the ones with the most issues. It takes a few months and even years to work out the kinks in design and production.

I was told that you can't sell a reservation, you have to follow through and buy the truck from Tesla, then you can do whatever you want with it, such as resell it to someone else. I have reserved 9 trucks, and want to keep one, and flip the other 8. With 2 million reservations, and production at about 350K per year fully ramped, some people will wait another 5 years for their truck, or buy one of mine for a mark-up.

I would think Tesla would be within their rights to cancel and refund the deposit if the name etc changes, to stop scalpers. They could probably auction off the 10,000 / 100,000 orders before the first pre-order if they wanted to, although that might be somewhat unpopular. Perhaps for charity. Certainly better than scalpers - including (in the case of non-Tesla) car dealerships.

I have 5 on order, starting at about 15K, 25K and 35K on the list. Not sure what I want to do with them when the time comes. I figured a family member or friend would want them and I would just gift them the reservation. I'd hate to have to pay sales tax twice on the same car and also not be able to use the IRA if it is limited to once per year. I'm not in this to scalp somebody.

You have to register it in YOU NAME FIRST and TAKE DELIVERY in YOUR NAME... then its whatevs from there on out. If someone is going to go through all that, they must have a good reason to sell. There may be some people that actually DONT LIKE the CyberTruck once they get it... so Im not sure if Tesla can MANDATE US to keep the rig after purchase in that specific case. No doubt someone will profit from an early CyberTruck order... so what. Once they ramp up, it will normalize out perhaps.

Holders should be able to sell their spots or their trucks at a profit. Tesla should also offer a "line jumper" premium price and put those $$ into the company. The scummiest groups are companies that price things too low just to get a marketing frenzy wipped up among the fans.

TSLA can only make about 30,000-40,000 Cybertrucks in 2024 with the current 4680 battery manufacturing rate. Recently announced was the 20th Million 4680 cell made which took about 12 months. These batteries were used in the discontinued Model Y (4680) so they are not lying around in stock. Using that "run rate". a CT with 130Kwh battery will uses about 1,400 cells per battery pack. 1400/20,000,000 = 14,285 Battery packs. TSLA are increasing battery production, even doubling this would make 30K CT's and triple the amount would be about 45,000 CT's made. Not unless they release multiple trims and some have 2170 battery packs will they be able to produce a significant number of CT. i see CT production starting very slowly: 2024- 30,000 2025- 75,000 2026- 125,000 2027 - 185,000

Tesla reservations are nontransferable therefore they cannot be sold. You can take delivery and immediately transfer ownership in and outright sale, but simply transferring one’s reservation is not allowed unless it’s within one’s household.

Well scalpers for anything are everywhere. What will happen when their delivery are cancelled or removed by Tesla, and make the owners who did this unable to purchase another one within 10 years?? The person who though they had bought their truck, paid out the cost for the fee of the auction. Then they can't get their truck, will have to pay back all fees to the buyer and plus paying the auction fees as well. You had made a reservation, you gave the deposit to Tesla, if you don't want it anymore?? can't afford buying one anymore?? Well it should be easy as to tell Tesla. Then they can give the numbers to those who can purchase the trucks!!!! Ford had sued Cena for his GT40, if it wasn't the plan all along with Ford to discourage others buyers and sellers. People want to play the stock markets, then do it and learn real quick if you lose or win LOL

Plenty of wealthy and well off people out there who want the new and shiny for attention. To be the first on the block and be stared at. Plenty of social media faces too wanting to make content with anything new and trending. This is why scalping and reselling is such a big business now. There were people willing to pay $10k for a $500 PlayStation 5 during the first Christmas of its release. Specially since there was a shortage of supply thanks to scalpers buying out much of the supply.

He made his Cybertruck reservation years ago, long before his wife's cancer diagnosis. If he is able to swap his low reservation number for a much higher number, then this would presumably delay the availability of his Cybertruck by another year or two, and his financial situation *might* improve by then. I think Sam has acted in financially irresponsible ways in the past (and I sent him some emails to warn him that some of the things he was doing were irresponsible), but placing a pre-order for a Cybertruck when his family appears to be in good health was not bad as you are trying to make it out to be.

@@harmony3138 Making RU-vid videos has been financially successful enough for Sam to cease his regular job and focus on his RU-vid channel full time. I would consider that to be "a lot of money". I noticed that, with Sam facing crippling medical expenses for his wife's cancer treatment, he is making an effort to increase the number of videos daily, since more videos plus more subscribers plus more patron supporters means he can hopefully earn a bit more money to pay for medical expenses. I find it unsurprising that you would stoop low, yet again, in an effort to needlessly portray Sam in a negative light.

Many car manufactures are doing the same thing now with hot vehicles that are in limited supply at launch. Upon putting down the bigger deposit to initiate the order customers are given a price range or MSRP in writing.

If both parties are in the US the original reserver can pick it up and transfer it immediately to the new owner. I doubt Tesla will support any other method. I expect very early cybertrucks could easily be sold on for $100,000 over the sale price.

These people paid for thier place in line it was never free... You want to jump on yhe bandwagon late thats your own disadvantage, why would tesla care if thier production run is full for 5 years, thier problem is to ramp not get involved it pettyness, that money went to support tesla when they needed it, and needed it they did , investers of tesla all receive profits from shares, a 4 year old preorder is well i dont think anyone had to way that long dor anything tesla should be the ones penalized for promoting it to early(thats a different argument),

Scalping is illegal for a reason. This pettyness essentialy makes the vehicle cost more. Increases 2nd owners list. Not good. Most Tesla owners never sell, they love them too much. Tesla stopped taking orders of the Cybrtruk. Recently started again. No TSLA investor recieves profit sharing.. profit only comes at an increase in value of the stock. Since Elon broke the Cybrtruk window he , with his amazing teams, remodeled every Tesla model. Landed almost countless rockets. Invented & ramped the 4680. Made a neurolink monkey play pong. Now human testing. Made the fastest BTM in the world. Released & ramped the Semi. Built several gigafactories. Paid for freespeach. Launched, sold & ramped the megapack. Released some neat new solar products. Im sure much more. . It took weeks once started to get the Cybrtruk into ramping mode. In better than 4 yrs , I'm sure, had Elon wanted to pump out Cybrtruks he would have, within months of the intro. Both GM & Ford released EV trucks within weeks . Hmmm Elon knows the importantance of big legacy and all of it's jobs on a country like the U.S. collapse for some will be inevitable.

Yeah Tesla is not going to give a s***, they're in the business of selling trucks. If people paid for reservations by doing account transfers they're going to order them. They don't care. And they shouldn't they're in the business of selling trucks and cars they're not going to waste time investigating and possibly causing legal challenges by people purchasing other people's accounts and then ordering the trucks. The sale is a sale plain and simple. Even reselling trucks right after people get them Tesla might block you from ordering another truck but again that's doubtful cuz it's sales. And the high value resale trucks are only going to last until production ramps and then the trucks will be available. Granted they're going to hold their value really well for the first three or four years until you can start getting them easily. Maybe even longer.

I guess that doing a legitimate swap would not upset Tesla, providing that you did it at or below the standard reservation cost, through them, or maybe through a third party escrow system, giving full details of both parties to Tesla. That would also still allow gift reservations to be made. But selling a reservation for profit is underhanded, and likely to have been the perpetrator's original intention. If I were Tesla, I would ban the seller from making any future advance reservations for Tesla vehicles, take them to court, and also bump their sold reservation downwards by a million positions. That would deter people from selling reservations and deter other people from trying to jump the queue in such a manner. Alternatively, if they have not yet done so, Tesla could write something prominently into their reservation system which makes it quite clear that, except for in the cases of a gift to someone, or as a legacy in a will, the reservation is non-transferable.

If I had to sacrifice the possibility of putting my money to work for a 4 years wait then it should be my right to sell the investment I made. Tesla has been accumulating substantial interest on the 100 million in unearned income they’re sitting on for all those years. It’s egregious to limit my option to reap the benefit of my foresight if Tesla is going to keep the benefit of its own. I don’t buy cars to satisfy some presumptuous corporation’s audacity to claim the right to oversee how I will dispense with it when and how i see fit. Scalpers don’t have to wait 4 years for delivery and Tesla isn’t a market regulator.

What they should is not take reservations, in fact it should be made unlawful. You can only take orders for cars, and then only 6 months before they go on sale. By an 'order' I mean a legally binding contract which requires the maker to provide a car by the agreed date and the buyer has to pay the balance of what's due.

I think your right, I ordered one but really don't need a truck, will most likely cancel. Biggest reason is it doesn't have the features from the prototype - upper light bar, rear gate ramp, air compressor, bulletproof, and low price.
