She's the best because she doesn't over-sing it. Most singers just squirm around and strain to sound seductive. She doesn't have to try. Her voice is like velvet.

I cannot believe that this song is 70 years old but it still sounds good!

I took the last picture of her alive during her gig at the Cafe Carlyle in NYC. I held her hand to help her keep her balance as she stepped down off the stage. As she stepped down, I pulled her hand up and kissed it. She looked down at me and said “Oh…thank you baby!” She then was kind enough to sign a short poem I wrote about her & let me take her photo. I’m here to tell you, it doesn’t get much better than that! She passed one month later from colon cancer on Christmas Day. What a Mama! R.I.P.

I was fortunate enough to see Miss Kitt in concert a few years before she passed. She came out in a silver lame gown, which left the audience gasping. She proceeded to wow the audience for a full hour and a half. She did this song, and in the preamble, mentioned cheekily that "she had made it a hit before that bitch Madonna".....the audience loved it! She also mentioned that her two favourite foods were steak tartare and Veuve Cliquot champagne.....and thanks to us, she could afford them both. Sadly missed.

I never got the impression that she was singing to the actual Santa. I, personally, think that she's calling her lover Santa since she's totally asking for gifts that most people would think are extravagant. Whether or not he could realistically afford them, or not doesn't matter. She wants a lot of stuff, and a most importantly a ring, which would make a person assume that she's done just being a lover and wants the permanence of marriage. Perhaps she's wanting to be a pampered trophy wife, but, honestly, she would have been the ultimate trophy wife in that she was smart, witty, and gorgeous!

This is THE best version of this song, the best way of singing it…….Eartha is singing it with a slow, innocent, believable wheedling tone, I always thought was masterful. Especially her delivery, enunciating the punch lines. A true original, she was, Eartha Kitt.♥️

I have listened to this "original" song for years! I had it as my ring tone. Kept T-mobile for 20yrs ONLY because I was grandfathered in to this "ring tone back, where my CALLERS could hear this song instead of a ring when calling me!
