She was an independent woman focused on her daughter and her career, in that order. She did not enjoy frivolous conversation, she wanted to talk about real world problems. Shame on the Johnson administration.
one of my she-ros. I will NEVER forget her. And there are SEVERAL black, female superstars that may not even knoew of her, but owe their careers to icons like her, Grace Jones, Josephine Baker, Diahann Carroll and Dorothy Dandridge. Eartha wasnt a diva...she was above that. She was what we call "a grand dame".
I never knew this about Eartha! Thanks for this post. I am fan now and want to know more about her. She's no kitty cat. She's a full-fledged tiger! Brava Eartha!
I disagree with her because it ignores what the Soviet Union was doing in the world, but I appreciate the fact that she had the guts to say it. And what Johnson did to her should scare everyone.
My uncle Paul was from some small town in South Carolina and he sounded very similar. Listen to old clips of Elijah Muhammad speaking, again it sounds very similar. Watch British television for a while, I think you’ll begin to hear the similarities between their accents and our southern accents. When I hear for instance Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls I hear traces of England.
