On the evening of Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at approximately 9:45 PM, a motorcycle backfire in Times Square sent people into panic thinking that there was an active shooter on the loose. With live streaming webcams located throughout Times Square, EarthCam captured wide, medium and close up footage of the chaotic scene from unique eastern, northern and northeastern points of view. I heard the motorcycle in the first clip (revving its engine) but I didn't hear the backfire. I have heard what sounds like backfire when such a motorcycle rev's its engine before, so I can imagine the reason for the reaction.

Dex Dillon iv seen other clips and the backfire was so loud It sounded like a real gun. This earthcam was too far for the motorcycle’s backfire to be heard.

With all these shootings and the gun craze in murica people seem to be constantly in fear of that. The rest will start following, the running become the majority. Most people will blindly act like the majority. Stampede, one of the worst ways to die and sadly its pretty easy to happen.

yesterday (15.05.2021), time square was even more crowded. people didn't even react after cars backfired several times... and there has actually been a shooting just recently. interesting how people's behavior changes over time.

So many attacks? If people actually knew about firearms, instead of trying to keep them out of the hands of every decent person, they might have known it was just a backfire.
