All apprentices should know this great for level 1, 2 or 3 electrical students on a City and Guilds 2365, 7202, 8202, 5357or an EAL course. Simple explanation including Ze values for 100A supplies and an explanation into Zs with a calculation for fault current. How to identify an earthing system.

I did Electrical engineering plus digital electronics years ago and now I'm taking a course for Inspection and testing and frankly this video compared to other ones, where the stupid terminologies like TNS or whatever aren't explained, is making these simple connections completely clear. Great video. Just to emphasise the importance of this being that a live to earth fault on any part of the circuit would trip a protective device 😀

I still don’t get the practical application of calculating Zs. If you have a second CU/DB for say a garage can you just list the Zs of that second board when producing a schedule of inspections for an EICR or do you have to go to the garage and get the zs for each circuit?

Hi, the second DB will be a distribution circuit from the origin (incoming supply presumably), this distribution circuit (otherwise know as a sub-main) will have a Zs. When completing the schedule of test results for the second DB this Zs will become the Zdb of that board (cant be Ze as it is not the origin). Hope that helps.

Hi Sir, when there is a short circuit between line conductor and earth, there will be fault current flowing through the Zs loop. Are there any current flowing through the neutral conductor at the same time?

In TT system why is Ze 200 ohms? How do we find that?
