Earthquake MC43 carburetor replacement with fuel line replacement

When small engines stop working it's usually bad gas or a clogged carburetor. My gas was good so I decided to replace the carburetor rather than try to fix it.
I also ended up having to make my own cardboard gasket.
$16 on Amazon prime with free shipping, but I bought straight from the manufacturer for $41. Live and learn...

Thank you sir. You were the only person of several videos I watched to explain which fuel line was intake and which was return. “The devil is in the details!” Thanks again for your attention to detail!

Excellent video! My earthquake has been sitting non working for over a year. Because of this video, I went online and ordered the complete replacement carburetor. It arrived today and with some luck tomorrow I will be tilling my garden. Thanks again.

Thank you very much. I bought the carb kit on Amazon and it came with lots of extras. Including the carb gasket. It was 16 dollars and shipped via prime. Installed it and now my tiller is up and running. It had been sitting for a year and a half. Carb gets gunked up over time and use. So the carb replacement was perfect! Thanks for your video.

Thank-you for this video. I have just picked up an Earthquake MC43 used and it would not start. Common issue. degraded gas line at the carb , pieces broken in the tank and throttle cable was stuck. Pulled tank., cleaned as I went. Had replacement fuel lines that fit and freed the cable with 3 in 1 oil. Final test will be this week. Wish me luck.

LOL! I took my carb off today, but I didn't have access to my computer at the time. I had those 4 rubber washers drop out on me, but I wasn't for sure just where they went. I had taken photos of every step along the way, but didn't get one of the back side of the gas tank when I had pulled it off. Now that i have replayed the video, I can go out tomorrow and finish out what I started. My lawn guy used my tiller last season, but forgot to drain the tank when he put it away. Hardest thing I have run into on today's attempt to clean it all up, was pulling that darn two hole rubber gasket that holds the gas lines at the tank and then putting it back in. That little sucker was stiff as a board and not so very easy to put it back into place, but I got 'er done. I have not checked out the replacement carb pricing on Amazon, but that may be something to get a spare and keep handy. Thanks for the video. Yup, a 4mm Allen wrench and 10mm socket did the complete job today.

It took me a while to find out you will probably never have to replace the primer bulb, or the fuel lines. If you only use non ethanol gas. They rot quickly. Good info vid.

Using ethanol free treated gas, a top notch oil along with yearly fuel refreshing will alleviate a lot of carburetor problems.

My husband and I replaced the carburetor and fuel lines on our 43cc viper mini cultivator thanks to your informative video. It fired right up and he ran it, used it for 20 minutes when then it kinda gurgled and chugged like it wasn’t getting gas. Won’t restart. Primer bulb (came new w carburetor) now doesn’t pop back out. The intake fuel line is clear and fuel filter is new as well. Any ideas why not getting fuel through?

Seems to me it has to be that the fuel line is obstructed. It's possible it's obstructed inside the carburetor.

Thanks so much for the insight. I want to offer this for any newbies trying to learn new skills like us w hopes they'll learn from our deeds. We "knew" it wasn't old 50:1 gas mix that we'd just made up. However, it turned out to be "old" gunkiness in the actual fuel container on the cultivator. It seems a piece of the fuel line was broken off in it from the past and was disintegrating inside causing the clog. We emptied, cleaned (dawn and water), thoroughly dried and now works like a charm!!

I need a new fuel tank and now i think ill get a new carb too. My old tank has a hole in the top corner and fussy rigged with duck tape. Also the fuel lines are corroded. Thank for the video i was about to give up. My husband is to sick to fix anything any more and i don't have the resources to buy a new one. Could you or do you have a link to a new tank. Searching the web gives me a headache. This will help me with my weeding. I just busted two ribs pulling weeds. So i need my tiller back.

I ordered a new carb and it won't suck the fuel but I can see bulbs in the fuel tank when I prime it, any ideas???
@TheFritz423
@TheFritz423 4 года назад
I wonder if you got the fuel intake line and the fuel return line reversed on the carburetor. Try switching them and see if it doesn't work. The other possibility is a crack in the fuel line.

I put it back together like you did. All new hoses. I wonder and just thought about this. The new lines may be too big for the holes.
