These are really great improvements, thanks for the introdution! Recently I was a bit annoyed by Gutenberg and the FSE project. Sometimes there are breaking changes (i.e. floated images going completely to the edges), but I can understand that you always want to work towards the best version and sometimes this causes pain.

You are welcome and thank you for the feedback. I understand the initial frustration with the project but as you say it's come a long way since its inception and is now greatly improved. Great to hear you can understand how we're working incrementally towards a better future for WordPress.

I've been using WP for years now and never used the block editor, site editor, page builders, etc. But I think it's time to learn something new especially site editor. I love to create sites from scratch without using complicated themes and plugins because sometimes they will take too much resources of the server, esp. if I'm using shared hosting. Can't wait to see your videos about WP 6.2. I'm currently testing the 6.2 Beta on my local host.

Great to hear you're thinking of giving the block editor another chance. I can personally testify that whilst it's far from perfect, it has come a long way since it's inception. As with all things WordPress, it's a incremental process. I am indeed working on a video with a complete overview of WordPress 6.2 in 5 mins. Subscribe to make sure you catch that one! Thanks again

This is something that was sorely needed. It is functionality that was ignored for far too long. I really like the ability to drag menu item to different positions. Your demo showed how to drag an item to different positions at the same level. Can they be dragged to different levels in the menu hierarchy?

Thanks for your feedback Jim. It's great to know you feel this is a good investment of contributors' time and effort. For a long while we've focused on making building with blocks in the canvas the best experience it can be. The work on the Nav block has influenced this significantly both directly and indirectly with many features originating in the block now standard across the editor. I do agree that this offcanvas editing has been something that's been needed for a while and so I'm glad we can finally bring the first iteration of this to users. It's by no means perfect, but it's an improvement and we can continue to iterate in future versions. All the very best.

That's cool! can I save the menu items as html template in my block theme's template part folder? Usually the menu rarely changes,I want to hardcode the menu into the template html file, but when I edit my menu in the fullsite editor template part and use hot key ctrl+shift+alt+M, there only show the , no data here, why the nav block is different from other blocks, for new users, They just want to use the latest technology, and they don’t know what is the classic menu, and compatibility is not required at all.

Hi there, Glad you're general impression is that this is a good feature. > can I save the menu items as html template in my block theme's template part folder? The menu items themselves are always sync'd to an entity (a Custom Post type of type `wp_navigation`). You can manually create a Navigation block and put the menu items inside of it and the block will respect that, but as soon as you make changes it will become "synced" and convert to the format with a `ref` attribute which points to the post type where the menu items are now stored. > why the nav block is different from other blocks, for new users It's probably one of the most complex of blocks and thus is often pushing the boundaries of what the editor can do. What specifically do you find unsual? That the menus items disappear? > They just want to use the latest technology, and they don’t know what is the classic menu, and compatibility is not required at all. Yes I agree. The block is designed so that it will "just work" for those starting a fresh site. However, we have to consider folks moving from Classic themes to block themes and that is why the block does make some allowances for those users (allowing import of Classic Menus for example). We're always looking for more feedback on the block and we'd welcome your opinions on Github where the work happens. This Issue is probably the best one for that - github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/41549. Thanks again for your feedback and let me know if you have more information. All the best

Since Elementor automatically creates a menu item, how do you change a menu item to a sub menu item? The previous verions allowed this via a simple drag and drop.

I just found an answer to my question which raised another question. How do you create a static menu item? I created one called "Our Services" with the intention of pulling all service tabs under it. When I save and go to the site, "Our Services" does not show up. Am I doing this wrong?
@DaveOnWP
@DaveOnWP Год назад
Hi there. Thanks for your comments. I think what you are asking for is to create an item in a menu which doesn't have a specific URL or link. And then underneath that you want to list some other pages as children. If I remember correctly the front of the site won't show menu items without a URL. So you can use a `#` as a placeholder for the URL on the `Services` item. Alternatively it would be better from an accessibility point of view to create a Services page and use that in the menu. I hope that helps?

Hi Dave, I upgraded to 6.2 and wow, there are changes. I'm trying to duplicate an advanced button I made. The duplicate used to show up below, now it's beside the original and I cannot move it up or down. I cannot figure out how to fix this. Can you share some insight on how to do this? Thanks kindly

Hi there. Thanks for your comment. Apologies but it's difficult for me to offer advice without being able to see what you're trying to do. Duplicate functionality in the Nav block should work as it did before so I'm not sure what issue you are experiencing here. Perhaps you would consider raising a ticket in the forums at: wordpress.org/support/forums/ ...and then dropping a link here. All the very best

By default WordPress adding all pages to Navigation block ..... how to make new blank menu ?? Also how to remove pages from menu in one go ??
@DaveOnWP
@DaveOnWP Год назад
Thanks for the question. By default a "Page List" block is added which displays all the pages. If you remove that block then you will have an empty block with which to work. An easier method is to open the List View editing sidebar (as shown in this video) and then look for the options menu (3 dots in the top right of the list view). Under that you'll find a list of menus and an option to "Create new". Contributors are looking for ways to improve the discovery of this.

Great video - thanks. I’ve also looked at your excellent “Use a different menu on mobile with the Navigation block in WordPress block editor” video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dY3f8sHcAPA.html) produced for WP 5.9. That covers exactly what I want to do (hamburger for mobile version, words for desktop version). On my classic theme I have a main menu already setup. When I add a navigation, it uses the old primary one. When I add a second it adds the same one (which is what I want to do), but, If I give a “menu name” and “Additional CSS class” (under “Advanced”) for one, then when I look at the other it has changed to this so they both have the same name / class. I thought I could have copy as various 5.9 videos show a “Switch Menu” button but managing which menu is used, seems impossible. If, as an experiment I add a 3rd navigation, it automatically uses the primary one, although I had several in my classic theme. I’ve spotted the “Manage menus” link but this only lets you change the name or delete. Any ideas on: Choosing which classic menu (or navigation) is imported or used for a particular navigation. Copying a navigation but so it is not directly linked to the one being copied. Thanks
@theenglishtrufflecompany8234
Managed to sort it out. I still think there is a bit more scope for making the choice of which classic menu / navigation to use could be easier.

Sorry I missed your comment. I've been away on vacation. So there is a distinction between the Navigation BLOCK and the MENU it is using. For the method I showed in the video you reference you can have both block's reference the SAME menu and present (visually) them differently. OR you could have them use different menus but creating copies from a single source menu isn't a flow that's well supported at present. If you have any time it would be great if you would consider raising a Github Issue describing your frustrations. I'd be happy to jump in and ensure it's labelled and triaged accordingly. github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/new/choose Thanks again 🙇
@theenglishtrufflecompany8234
@@DaveOnWPThanks for the response Dave. Just spotted the three dots in the List View for Menus and that appears to give all that I was missing! (Choose which Navigation menu to use, "Import Classic Menus", "Create new menu"). I'll do some experimentation and if there are still any short comings, I'll flag it.
